Alternatives to Samba for linux/Win7 file sharing.
I'm new to samba. I'm using 4.5.16-Debian at home to make available a drive in a linux machine to two users on a Win7 machine. Read-only. No concurrent access. Low-throughput, no streaming etc. That's it. No other sharing of any kind, no write-permission of any kind, etc. My application seems to require 1% of the capabilities of samba. Samba is overkill. What other software

Cannot print from Win7 AD client
I run a samba 4.1.17-Debian DC (and secondary, same version) and a print server (same samba version, CUPS 1.7.5). I can log in to the domain from all Linux and Windows machines. I can print through the print server from all Linux and WinXP machines (not member!). I recently have trouble printing from a Win7 Ultimate VM. This may be due to a reboot of the whole cluster after a power fail.

Fedora 10, R and yes...help.start()...deja vu all over again...
Hi all, I installed F10 Final today. This was a clean install, not an upgrade from F9. Kudos the the Fedora team as the level of maturity noted in the install process, including using encrypted partitions, keeps getting better with each release. I'd still like to see easier options in the GUI with respect to selecting entire groups of applications, rather than having to go through individual

[Fwd: snowfall on Win7]
Dear Ola, I cannot say anything about Windows 7, as we do not have any Win7 machines here in our institute and I even do not know someone who have Win7 on a private machine. I will try to find a machine with this OS and test it. Anybody having experiences with Win7 yet? Can I play any Win7 game on Linux?
Hi, I am apprehensive about buying the Windows 7 for my new desktop PC ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig_b41uOQCg ) and pay more than 100 euros for it. I don't have enough money before I get the student loans after New Year 2012, and I was wondering if I could get Linux somewhere today or before Christmas holidays. Before I decide, tell me, can I play any Win7 game I like on Linux, by

Does anyone run win7 or winxp with xl toolstack?
Hello, everybody! Does anyone have experience of running win7/winxp with xl? As for me, I got HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED BSOD on win7 booting and guest hanging in case of winxp. When i run these guests (with the same configs) with xm, everything is ok. The guests boot perfectly. Did anyone run into it too? I use the lattest xen-unstable, but i saw the problem several months ago too. My

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Hi All, I have a simple home network - no domain controller, no DNS, just DHCP on my router. I have simple samba file server built on Arch Linux, with single share exposed and couple of client computers, some ot them running Win7 x32 (embedded, not-upgradeable), some others with different Win or Linux systems. All of the client are connecting to the share using the same user/pwd, set up previously

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Can you get a network capture, and also ensure the logs have the exact time you see the failure in it (and tell us that time, to the highest resolution you can)? I can't see anything suspicious, but at log level 10 the 'log limit = 50' will cut in very fast, so it might have been lost. Set that to 0. Win7 can and cannot join domain; speed issues? (tests to /dev/zero & /dev/null?)
I've made some pseudo progress .. I deleted my DNS domain name from my client -- after that, I was able to get a message (Welcome to Bliss Domain) -- followed by 'Domain join failed, you will not be in the Domain. Reboot now to activate your new domain name. Upon reboot, it thinks I am in Bliss domain, BUT it acts completely unjoined -- no domain groups in group list selections, Shares

virt-io drivers for 64 bit Win7 needed for USB passthrough?
Have been trying to get a 64-bit Win7 guest to access a usb thumbdrive (and eventually an Apple iTouch). Host is CentOS 6.2 and the guest is running under qemu-kvm with SELinux enabled and sVirt separating guests from each other and guests from the host. Do I need to install the virt-io drivers in the Win7 guest, or are there more permission and SELinux blocks in my path? Dave
