Problems with mars in R in the case of nonlinear functions
Hi,
I'm trying to use mars function in R to interpolate nonlinear
multivariate functions.
However, it seems that mars gives me a fit which uses only very few
basis function and
it underfits very badly.
For example, I have tried the following code to test mars:
require("mda")
f <- function(x,y) { x^2-y^2 };
#f <- function(x,y) { x+2*y };
# Grid
x <-

32 or 64 bit (4 gb ram)
Is there any real advantage to using 64 bit when I am right at the 4gb
ram threshhold? Nice plans to add more ram.
The machine will just be a backup machie (rsync).
Thanks in advance.

Shorewall 4.1.0
I''ve opened up development of Shorewall 4.1.
While I had previously announced that Shorewall 4.1 would focus on IPv6, I
have since learned that the netfilter team are developing ''xtables'', a
unified IP0v4/IPv6 utility. It seems silly to spend the effort to add
Shorewall support for IPv6 only to then have to turn around and convert it
to use xtables. So I''ve

Threshhold Models in gnlm
Hello,
I am interested in fitting a generalized nonlinear regression (gnlr) model
with negative binomial errors.
I have found Jim Lindsay's package that will do gnlr, but I have having
trouble with the particular model I am interested in fitting.
It is a threshhold model, where below a certain value of one of the
parameters being fitted, the model changes.
Here is a sample:

Not sure what you mean.

[LLVMdev] bug in tablegen?
I think that what I did originally should have worked and the bug was
correct as I reported it.
Here is an alternate implementation which has the same problem.
class ArithLogicRTest16<string I, SDNode OpNode, bit isComm = 0>:
FRRR16<!cast<FRRR16_ins>(I).f,
!cast<FRRR16_ins>(I).OutOperandList,
!cast<FRRR16_ins>(I).InOperandList,

Obtaining the adjusted r-square given the regression coefficients
Hi people,
I want to obtain the adjusted r-square given a set of coefficients (without the intercept), and I don't know if there is a function that does it. Exist????????????????
I know that if you make a linear regression, you enter the dataset and have in "summary" the adjusted r-square. But this is calculated using the coefficients that R obtained,and I want other coefficients

[LLVMdev] bug in tablegen?
I've filed the following bug. Maybe I'm doing something stupid here or
maybe someone knows of a workaround.
The following fragment from mips16 (not yet checked into main source).
The problem is that I should be able to pass parameters:
I.OutOperandList, I.InOperandList
But instead, I must back substitute what I know the values of these are.

this is actually a problem with the tailduplication pass of llvm. it does not

ML-Fit for truncated distributions
Hello,
maybe that my Question is a "beginner"-Question, but up to now, my research
didn't bring any useful result.
I'm trying to fit a distribution (e.g. lognormal) to a given set of data
(ML-Estimation). I KNOW about my data that there is a truncation for all
data below a well known threshold. Is there an R-solution for an
ML-estimation for this kind of data-problem? As

[LLVMdev] Unnatural loops with O0
Hello everybody,
we noticed that llvmgcc4.2-2.2 sometimes generates non-natural loops
when compiling to bytecode without any optimizations. Apparently what
happens is that the loop header is duplicated, which results in two
entry points for the loop. Since this could obstruct subsequent loop
optimizations, it might be interesting to further investigate this behavior.
To show the problem, I have

levelplot behaviour for panel with constants

y = rep(c(0,1,0,1),4)
z = c(1,0,1,0,0,0,1,1,0,1,0,0,1,1,1,1)
f = as.factor(c(rep("a",4),rep("b",4),rep("c",4),rep("d",4)))
levelplot(z~x+y|f,data.frame(x=x,y=y,z=z,f=f))
I noted that the last ("d") plot remains empty. I guess the
reason for this is that the values are constant (1), but I consider
it more

Sure, there are clients actually listeing too, but I do not

dinput_test works but WINEDEBUG shows no joystick for game?
This is a continuation/evolution of what I've been trying to do, get some response from my controller(s) in Guitar Hero 3. I compiled wine (with some help :) and manually copied the dinput_test.exe.so file into my /usr/lib32/wine directory and made it's permissions match the other exe.so files (644). I then run the test to see if dinput is seeing/reacting to my controller, and it seems

[LLVMdev] bug in tablegen?
I think you're missing the template args for `FRRR16_ins` in the first
argument. The switch in TGParser::ParseType() doesn't cover the case
of types with template args though... which makes me wonder what is
going on inside of TableGen to make `I.f` and `I.AsmString` valid...

Ebb Web Server
Hello Mongrel Users,
I''m writing a web server called Ebb. It''s written in C, makes use of
the Mongrel HTTP parser, and uses libev its event loop. The goal is to
be small, fast, and language independent server that can host web
frameworks. I have written a small Ruby binding which provides a Rack
handler - this will allow Ebb to host Rails, Merb, and other Ruby
frameworks. In the

I am an R newbie, trying to use lsoda to solve standard

# defining function
lotvol <- function(t,n,p){
x <- n[1]; y <- n[2]

Non-Erubis Templates
Trunk Issue: Because of the use of ''autoload'', template handlers other
than Erubis are not loaded automatically (Haml, XMLBuilder). Either
this should be fixed, or the documentation should be updated to
instruct people how to use non-Erb template engines.
Apparently the solution is to do something like this in merb_init.rb:
::Merb::AbstractController.register_engine
