asc class object - how to get positions (coordinates) for a given raster ID?
In a raster asc object, I'd like to take the positions (x and y coordinates) for a given "pixel" ID. Any idea about how to do this? _______________ Paulo E. Cardoso [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Glusterfs and Xen - mount option
Hi, I've installed Gluster Storage Platform on two servers (mirror) and mounted the volume on a client. I had to mount it using "mount -t glusterfs <MANAGEMENT_SERVER>:<VOLUMENAME-ON-WEBGUI>-tcp <MOUNTPOINT>" because I didn't had a vol file and couldn't generate one with volgen because we don't have shell access to the gluster server right? How can

color vectors other than gray()
I'm trying to create a graph where different cells of a grid (a shapefile) will be painted with a color share scale, where the most easy way is to use gray(). Can I somehow get a vector (gradient) of colors, a vector of colors with other methods but gray()? I'm doing this until now quad_N_sp <-

while( ) to get a vector until the sum of elements are <= X ?
I have a vector of values X = seq(1:10) I want to get another vector V of with sample (with replacement) of X but with a constrain: V will have as much elements as those necessary to V sum exactly 10. If the N-th value of V make the sum greater than 10, it's is subtracted with the difference to achieve the constrain. I don't know how to achieve this. with a while?

character position
Hi, I'm not being able to capture a position of a 'string' in a character string. In this example: 'There are 20 species in this grid' I would like to capture the string (number) after 'are' and before 'species'. Consider they do not change. I wouldn't like to use substr because stop position may change. Thanks Paulo

merging or joining 2 dataframes: merge, rbind.fill, etc.?
#I want to "merge" or "join" 2 dataframes (df1 & df2) into a 3rd (mydf). I want the 3rd dataframe to contain 1 row for each row in df1 & df2, and all the columns in both df1 & df2. The solution should "work" even if the 2 dataframes are identical, and even if the 2 dataframes do not have the same column names. The rbind.fill function seems to work. For

index after rbind
I am using rbind to concatenate two dataframes, but after the rbind I get a strange "double" index. I am using rbind a number of times to make one large dataset. Is there a way to prevent the "double" index? Or is there some other way to concatenate the data (it looks like merge only works by columns)? Here is an example of the "double" index.

rbind.data.frame reacts on levels without factor (PR#9578)
Full_Name: Lutz Prechelt Version: 2.4.1 OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (160.45.111.67) I stack a number of data.frames using rbind. Each of these dataframes has a column 'authorname', which is a factor and a column author = unclass(authorname) as piecewise pseudonyms. When using rbind to stack these dataframes, R warns about invalid factor levels and inserts all NAs in the author

using rbind() on multiple objects at once
Is there an efficient way to use rbind() with the five dataframes described in the following example: a <- c(1:5) list.foo <- lapply(a, function(x) data.frame(beta=a*rnorm(10), deta=a*rnorm(10))) big.data.frame <- rbind(list.foo[[1]], list.foo[[2]], list.foo[[3]], list.foo[[4]], list.foo[[5]]) #is there an easier method? I have installed LLVM on my machine (ubuntu) a while ago. I think my LLVM version is 2.8. is it supported in 2.8 ? When I install i didn't configure LLVM for mips. Do I have to configure it when I build ? Thanks in advance. rbind wastes memory
Hello everybody, if I try to (r)bind a number of large dataframes I run out of memory because R wastes memory and seems to "forget" to release memory. For example I have 10 files. Each file contains a large dataframe "ds" (3500 cols by 800 rows) which needs ~20 MB RAM if it is loaded as the only object. Now I try to bind all data frames to a large one and need more than

[LLVMdev] Trying to compile llvm-gcc to mips

Actually, I don't need fp, there is any way to disable? By the way, I'm working with a MIPS coprocessor

Maximum number of tables combined with rbind
Hello, I have been using read.table to read data files into R, then rbind to combine them into one table. The column headings are all identical, so it should be straightforward, and it seems to be working well so far. My question is: What is the maximum number of tables that can be combined with rbind? Is it driven by the number of rows in the tables, by a constraint with the syntax of rbind
