dll symbol loading: possible bug
Dear R-devel,
I think the following describes a bug in R. It seems to be associated with
dyn.load() and/or something that happens at start-up. I have not filed a
bug report yet (because I doubt my ability to rule out other explanations)
but would happily do so if requested.
Observation:
If two dlls are loaded as a result of dyn.load() calls in .Rprofile,
subsequent calls to dyn.load()

Hi,
I am getting masked objects and I think the maintainers of the
respective packages (lattice, boot, survival, aml) should agree on how
to eliminate th conflicts.
Here my start up protocol with the relevant information:

gnuclient.exe as pager ?
Hi,
I see there are some previous threads on gnuclient.exe, but I can't
figure this out based on those...
I recently started using ESS with Xemacs. I'm on Windows XP. On starting
iESS, my editor gets set to 'gnuclient.exe'. I don't understand how this
works, since there is no executable anywhere on my machine called
"gnuclient.exe". But I have no complaints: I like

problems with ESS & R ...
Hi!
I have R 1.9.1, Mac OS X 10.3.5, GNU Emacs 21.2.1 and ESS 5.2.3.
I installed today the ESS by not changing ess-site.el, but creating
.emacs in $home with the single line:
$ cat ~/.emacs
(load "/usr/local/lib/ess-5.2.3/lisp/ess-site")
If I start now emacs and then R (with M-x R) then I get:
> options(STERM='iESS', editor='emacsclient')
but using fix() oder

gnuclient problems witrh R/ESS in linux
Dear list,
Not strictly R ...
In R on Xemacs with ESS (R-2.0.1, Xemacs-21.4.15-r3, ESS-5.2.6)
on gentoo-linux
when I use k<-edit(k) or fix(k)
to change a small vector k <- c(1,2,3,4,5,6)
the opened window (called '6b8b4567') appears not to be connected to the

minibuffer

start-up problems
Hi,
After some reading and experimentation I found that I cannot solve this
problem:
1.
I am starting R and check:

/home/woodstock/hoffmacw
> system("echo $R_PROFILE")
/home/woodstock/hoffmacw/R

ESS/rterm problem
I really don't think this is an R bug; sorry if I've got it wrong twice
within a week.
Using rw0632 on NT 4.0, I can get R running quite happily under ESS
5.1.3. However, whenever I use help(), although I do get the required
help in a split screen, I also get the minibuffer error message:
wrong argument type: processp, nil
Note: I get this under ESS 5.0 as well. I could live with this,

rw-faq clarification + simple question + bug(?)
Windows users note: the rw-faq says
|1.8) Can I use rw0xx with ESS and emacs?
|
|Yes. Some time soon versions of ESS (5.1.3 has a `somewhat rough'
|prototype for rw0632) will come with support for this version of R. If
|yours does not, edit essd-r.el to have

graphics with rterm
I would like to use R as the graphical interface for a fortran program I am
writing. Presently my fortran code produces a set of data files then sends
an "rterm ..... <filename.r >out.out" line to my windows system. This causes
rterm to read in the data files, draw plots on my screen in milliseconds
.... and then terminate and disappear, plots and all, forever. It's this

Xemacs do not want to execute help.start() with R1.9.1
Hi all,
I 've just reinstalled from the scratch my Windows 2000 (Italian version)
on a formatted HD, because I like to clean
the environment from time to time (say once a year).
I'm currently using XEmacs-21.4.13 and R (rw1091)
and Xemacs is configured as described in
http://socserv.socsci.mcmaster.ca/jfox/Books/Companion/ESS/ess-xemacs.pdf
The problem is that the command

Sjava question on MacOS 10.3
I am running R-1.81, apple's JVM installed with OS 10.3.2, and installed
Sjava-0.65.X (a patched version of Sjava for MacOS from Simon Urbanek, which
I know is inherently dangerous, but...). This version installed fine and
some aspects seem to work as expected. However, this is one of the examples
and causes R to hang. Any insights? What other information should I
provide to make it easier

rterm.exe and graphics windows
I have started using R 1.5.0 on Windows 2000. The refinement of this system
in such a short time is astounding, and I thank those who have worked on it
and made it available!
I have been using rterm.exe to develop R scripts in my preferred editor
(not emacs) by sending the command
rterm.exe --save < %f
where the editor substitutes the filename for %f. This works wonderfully,

unusual segfault

decipher the "caught segfault"
Thanks for you attention.

Moving Rterm.exe to another location
Colleagues,
I have encountered the following situation in R (2.9.0) with Windows XP.
I have an application that calls Rterm.exe. In certain situations,
the application terminates but fails to close R. Then, the next time
that the application runs, there are replicated copies of R running -
this slows the system. One solution would be to kill any open
versions of Rterm.exe each time

Cases of TAB-completion that hang Rterm
FYI,
via a bug report of one of my packages, I discovered that the
following cases will hang Rterm when using TAB completion:
CASE #1:
Adding an empty default function for tail() causes Rterm on Windows to
hang if one press TAB at the prompt:
% Rterm -vanilla
> tail.default <- function(...) {}
> [PRESS TAB]
