Sharing sessions across rails apps 2.3.2
I''ve done this in 2.2, but cannot figure it out for 2.3.2:
Basically, I want to be able to share session data across a couple of
apps.
The way I did this in 2.2 was to create a view called sessions in the
second app that read the sessions table of the first app.
This done, I could tell them both to use active record sessions, and,
lo! I had a shared session.
Once I''d written a

how long before deleting sessions ?
What is the recommended amount of time to keep sessions around in the
database (i store them in a sessions table). IF you get 1 million requests
per day you are going to get 1 million new session entries in the DB. This
would need some serious cleaning so just wondering what a safe cleanup time
would be.
Also does anyone know how to prevent new sessions records from being created

freenx in rootless mode and session resume anyone?
Hi
I suceeded to run freenx on centos3 with the nomachine client, but I
still have some issues.
First I can only get a new whole desktop (kde) session. I cannot resume
it, and it always leave tons of process that I have to kill from root.
I don't need the whole kde desktop, and only want to have single
windows. This is called the rootless mode I think and cannot make it
work, it simply

Disconnected: Shutting down:
Hello,
dovecot-1.0.3 on Fedora 6 works perfect in general but sometimes the system
becomes unresponsive and the log file shows tons of messages like this:
... imap-login: Disconnected: Shutting down: 127.0.0.1, secured
... pop3-login: Disconnected: Shutting down: aa.bb.cc.dd
Restarting dovecot helps, but what's behind?
What can I do to prevent this?

Stubbing authentication across multiple controllers
Hi,
I''m new to RSpec, so I''m not too sure of the best practises in stubbing. I was thinking along the lines of including a helper method that would stub out a users id and posts to sessions/create. It works fine when speccing SessionsController, but of course it fails when it is included into other controllers specs, because of the post. I''ve tried posting to an

random number generator: same seed used in different sessions
I did several simulation sessions and the result turned out to be a
surprise. After some investigation, I found that different R sessions
of the program used the same seed. Simply, in R210, if I start R and
type rnorm(1), I always get the same random number. This is
contradictary to what is in the R document
Initially, there is no seed; a new one is created from the
current time when one

Running rake test:units yields DEPRECIATION WARNING: Disabling sessions for a single controller...
When I run my rake test:units I get the following:
DEPRECATION WARNING: Disabling sessions for a single controller has
been deprecated. Sessions are now lazy loaded. So if you don''t access
them, consider them off. You can still modify the session cookie
options with request.session_options.. (called from C:/Users/Wayne/

Sharing sessions across subdomains
Has anyone else experienced this strange behavoir with sharing
sessions across subdomains?
I have in development.rb
ActionController::CgiRequest::DEFAULT_SESSION_OPTIONS.update(:session_domain
=> ''.localhost.com'')
If I create a session at foo.localhost.com then go bar.localhost.com a
session is created (with host localhost.com) and everything works
fine.
But if I then go

Question about new Samba 3 rc4 and BDC
I have looked a bit through some of the archives for this list, and I have
caught different ideas on this matter.. I've also read through the
HOWTOs on how to do this stuff, but I haven't received the same results
that I was expecting, so I need someone to help me out a bit, give me a
definite YES or NO and if YES, how?
I have the latest release candidate of samba 3 installed on redhat-9.

Can we have have protected methods in our REST controllers?
I gotta be quick, sos if it seems rushed.
Latest word from DHH is that the REST conttrollers should only have 4
methods :
Create, Update, New, Delete
If you don''t know about DHH''s latest thing then leave now, or go read
about it on his blog.
Does this mean i can''t have private methods in my controller?? I have a
method that create and new share.
Thanks

Maintaining same session for a user across different PCs
Hi,
I''m trying to make a simple shopping cart, where I want to maintain
state when a use logs in from different location. Consider the
following :
1. ''foo'' logs in from home pc and add ''bar'' item to the cart.
2. ''foo'' goes to office and logs in from office PC.
3. Now I want only one session for ''foo'', so that when

Tweaks for high-bandwidth tinc
I've been using tinc to do some high bandwidth VPNs between nodes in
Amazon's EC2 environment (to work around some limitations there for
effectively loadbalancing raw TCP connections while preserving the
sources addresses, using Linux IPVS in NAT mode). The raw amount of
traffic involved is probably making this a bit of a corner case for
tinc. In the overall it has held up remarkably

samba sessions dying - NT_STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER
Dear samba users & developers,
I was hoping to seek some assistance on a problem I?ve been
investigating for a number of weeks now.
A brief summary would be that we have a number of Windows servers
accessing UNC paths. In turn, these servers intermittently lose their
ability to access the UNC paths. When this happens, restarting the
application (IIS6 / 7) on the affected windows webserver

Replay plot not allowed across sessions.
I wrote about this some time back as this new "feature" has made R less
convenient for me
since I story many, say 1000 to 1500 diagnostic plots per session.
Georgely Daroczi has a nice
hack in Rapporter//pander which it makes it possible to replay a single
bad plot by hacking the data
structure so as to change an offending part. Not surprisingl.doing this to
all my saved recordedplot

Too Many Open Files, Hung SIP Sessions, Can I Increase File Count?
Hi All,
Something happened on one of my 1.2.9.1 systems, SIP between * and Cisco
Call Manager 4.1, leaving hung or open SIP sessions. No problem now, we
found and corrected the problem. But while these hung sessions were
increasing to around 480 to 500 sessions, I started getting "too many open
files" on the asterisk console and sporadically could not establish new SIP
connections.

Sessions on Rails with Pound and Mongrel
Hi All,
I''m experiencing a problem when using pound with Rails. My set up is I
have a machine acting as a load balancer running Pound. This listens
on port 80 and directs requests with a particular URL to two backend
servers both of which are serving my rails app using mongrel cluster
on ports 9000,9001 and 9002. There is a problem with sessions even
though I am storing the session data

Tons of SNMP ?errors? in /var/log/messages
I'm running up-to-date CentOS 5 w/ Xen. I'm getting tons (tons = 13787
just yesterday, presumably because I have a monitoring system poll every
5 minutes) of log entries of the following:

_access_interface_entry_save_name()
and
netsnmp_assert rc == 0 failed if-mib/ifTable/ifTable_data_access.c:209
