Speech Recognition and Asterisk
All;
Since I have interest in providing the capability for callers to speak
the department, person or number they wish to call, as well as other IVR
scenarios, I have been reviewing much of this lists email archives and
searching the web for open source voice recognition that will work with
the Asterisk PBX.
What I am trying to determine, is what will it take to get it working on
Asterisk? How

Sounds transscript / speech synthesis
Hi,
in the earlier version there was a sounds.txt with the transcript of the
soundfiles. Does this still exist somewhere?
Is there a plan to make speech synthesis available the same way as
soundfiles, ie. instead of playing language/soundfile.wav, send the text to
the speechengine and play the output...?

Installing Ruby gems on RPM-based systems
When I first got involved with Red Hat (back with 5.2 in the early 90's) I
learned the hard way not to use language-specific packaging systems like
CPAN for Perl because they'd conflict with RPM's database and make it much
harder to manage what was installed on my system. If I now need a package
for which no RPM is available, I'll use a utility like cpanspec to
repackage it

fts squat non-english search for 2 words
Hello,
It looks I encoutered a bug or misconfiguration. fts_squat search for subject and body works excellent for English mails. For non-English (in particular, Russian) it works only when query consists of 1 word. Phrases - 2 and more words - always returns nothing. Example: search for "planet" ("???????") returns results, search for "Earth" ("?????") also

Virtual RPM howto?
Can someone point me to a howto or an example of a virtual package?
I'm building Diaspora (the open source competitor to Facebook) and I
figured it would be handy to gather all the prereqs into a virtual package.
I'm working from these instructions, which seemed to go fine on CentOS 6:

Giving a hand to Nouveau
Hello everybody out there!
Well, I just subscribed to this mailing list, so I guess I should
introduce myself, at least giving relevant information about me
concerning the development of Nouveau.
You can call me a scientist, and I am doing simulation code. Therefore,
my experience in coding is about high performance computing and
scientific visualisation–and also about teaching. I have some

writing a panel function in coplot for displaying a non-linear regression model graphically
Hello,I am a little bit struggling with the following:
I would like to draw a coplot and in each panel draw the curve and display
the coefficients of the regression model y~a*x^b.
I thought of running nls(y~a*x^b,...) in panel=function(x,y...){} when
calling coplot. How can I do this?
Alternatively, I could do the regression before graphing with coplot and
just use the panel function to draw the

Graphically centering confidence interval in barplot
Hello,
I have got a simple "cosmetic" question.
I have created a bar plot with confidence intervals using:
barplot(mean, ylim = c(0,0.2), las = 3, space = 0)
arrows(1:17 ,X95p_low, 1:17, X95p_high, length = 0.07, angle = 90, code
= 3, lty = 1)
Unfortunately, the confidence bars align with the right side of the bars
and I would like to shift these to the middle of the bars.

Graphically show population density for a specific geographic area using R
Hi,
we all know that R is powerful in dealing with graphics.
I am now trying to use R to show some geographic attributes for a
specific geographic area on a graph. For example, if I would like to
generate a graph showing the population densities (in terms of the
intensity of colors) for Illinois State by zip codes. I did some
research; and it seems that package "maptools" is

Confusion with expressing many to many relationship
Hi folks, I am in the process of converting an existing non-rails
application to rails, and am not sure what the best approach would be
for specifying the relationship between the two sets of data.
I''ll describe the existing table structures first.
Table 1: Urls
Each url has a unique id and two lists of Phrases, these are currently
setup as varchars with "," delimitation -

Seeing performance problems with has_many :through relation

experienced with has_many :through relationships as I am having a hard
time reconciling the performance I am seeing.
I have 2 tables that are linked together via has_many :through
Table 1: urls ( there are about 7,000 records )
2 fields, id and url
Table 2: phrases ( there are about 87,000 records )

New Adobe Reader works on CentOS-4.x, speech synthesis reader & more.
Just and FYI.
In RPM form, works on 4.x and I will try on 5.x too. Speech is tacky,
but if I can get something but the Gnome Festival synthesizer, maybe it
will improve?
