[Bug?] in tests, @foo.bars_count <> @foo.bars.count
Example: if a ''foo'' has 3 ''bars'',
bars_count == "0" # ERROR
bars.count == 3 # OK
It looks like a bug to me.

Are there any disadvantages to using locomotive
Hi:
I had some issues and so switched to locomotive. I find it awesome. 1
click and its done.
My question - what disadvantages are there, if any? What do I lose by
using such a convenient solution.
speculation as well as facts are welcome but please define which you
are putting forwards.
Thanks in advance,

How to pass a collection to paginate?
There must be a better way to write this code:
@project_pages, @projects= paginate :project,
:per_page => 10,
:conditions => ["account_id = ?", account]
?!
If only I could pass the sub-collection
account = ...
@projects = account.project
to paginate, instead of letting it extract it with a find :all + sql
conditions

Adding payment to an app: how hard and risky is it?
Hi all.
I have never implemented online payment and it''s the only thing that
keeps me from accepting a project for a UK based client. (I must reply
quickly!)
While I can afford spending an extra week - or 2 - to learn/try/tune the
payment system, I must be sure to succeed before I accept the contract.
If you''ve already been through that path, any hints, links and/or

passing parameters to link_to OR better way to do this?
Hi All:
I''m writing my 1st Rails app and I can''t seem to find the answer on
the web or in the book.
I''m making a table, and I want to be able to expand a filename. The
code is basically as as follows below. In the last <td> entry, I want
to call an action and pass in the test_results_path, which I will go

managing belongs_to fields in a form
Hi all,
I cannot find a clean way to create/edit an object that ''belongs_to''
another one, just by using form fields.
I always need to explicitely unassemble it, store the master id in a
hidden field, and then refetch the master from its id, and put it back
in the object.
To summarize:
I want to create a new member, for a given project
@project= ...

Using NTLM for S.S.O. in Rails
Greetings all,
To all the good souls that happen to know NTLM and Rails....
Short version:
--------------
- I''m looking for server code to extract credentials through NTLM dialog
with the client (IE)
- I found nothing usable/useful (as they both implement the client side
code) in
- rubyntlm on rubyforge
- lib ntlm-ruby by Jonathan Bastien-Filiatrau

[lme4]Coef output with binomial lmer
Dear R users
I have built the following model
m1<-lmer(y~harn+foodn+(1|ass%in%pop%in%fam),family = "quasibinomial")
where y<-cbind(alive,dead)
where harn and foodn are categorical factors and the random effect is a
nested term to represent experimental structure
e.g. Day/Block/Replicate
ass= 5 level factor, pop= 2 populations per treatment factor in each

validating model without saving
Hi all,
I would like to validate my model without actually saving it to the
database.
Actualy I need it as follows:
User enters user details in a post form.
When the user submits the form I would like the form to be validated.
However, when validation passes, I don''t want to save the model yet, but I
would like to store it in Session context.
Is this possible at all? And if so, how

TextDrive complaints
Hi all,
I have deployed my Ruby On Rails application on TextDrive.
At first everything seamed to be fine. However, lately, response time of my
application is incredible slow.
Worse, lately there is also a lot of downtime.
I have contacted their support desk, however, they do not respond (at all,
or very, very late).
Has anyone else these experiences with TextDrive?
And if so, what did you do

Fast Ruby Debugger?
After developing in Java for years in IDEs I''m starving for a decent ruby
debugger. When learning new codebasesI find it invaluable to use the
debugger to step through the system and see how things work at runtime.
Using RDT in Eclipse is fine but it''s excruciating to wait minutes for the
default debugger to finally reach my breakpoints on tests that normally take
seconds to

charting (freechart)
Hi all,
We are a Java development team, but we are considering rails for our next
project.
However in this webapplication I need to do a fair amount of charting.
In Java we used JFreechart (http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/index.php) for
this purpose.
What are my options for charting in Ruby?

parent folder rX -> child file in it rwx => child file from windows read only????
dear everybody
samba is 3.5.11-79.fc14
is this weird or my logic fails, I was hoping that if a file
has unix 770 then Win clients should be able to write to it
even if parent folder is 750
also if a folder is 770 and a Win client creates a new
folder in it, its unix permissions get set to 755, and yet!
another(different) Win user can just delete this newly
created folder.

switching environments
Hi all,
I created a Rails project on MS Windows.
Now I''m on my Mac, and would like to extend this existing project.
However, I can not run the script/generate, because the scripts all
reference the windows directory of Ruby.
Is there an easy way to switch to the Unix environment?
