How can I save plot()/points() using SHP files into KML format?
Hi,
I am new to R and am a very basic user. I'm importing SHP files, adding
plots of random locations within my polygon (these files have GPS data), and
then want to save these plots (intact with added points) as KML files to
look at in GoogleEarth (or possibly as SHP files which I can then convert
into KML).
This is as far as I've gotten (code below) and am lost as to next steps,

Package that does not work until I re write the exactly the same code
Hi the list,
I am writing a package in S4 and I do not manage to understand a bug.
The "R CMD check" and the "R CMD build" both work. Here is links to the
package (not on CRAN yet for the raison that I explain bellow):

convert opengis wkt to geometry?
After writing some code (stupidly without checking to see if there was
code to do this already) to generate PostGIS SQL insert statements for
simple geometry (wkt), I didn't check see if there is already something
available to convert WKT strings into some R package geometry (sp?).
Does anyone have any advice, hints, code (?) for converting the
following OpenGIS strings into something

Generating kml lines output
Dear,
I would like to generate kml file with lines (<LineString>) of
different style (definitely color, but width would also be nice to
see). However with kmlLine from maptools package I am able only to
output the single first Lines object (first row of
SpatialLinesDataFrame)
I guess the option would be to have single Lines object (instead of
list of them), but then also the style

Memcheck: Invalid read of size 4
Hi the list,
One of my package has a memory issue that I do not manage to understand. The Memtest notes is here:

Here is the message that I get from Memtest

Model Validation - with a twist
I''m stuck in a catch-22 type problem. I have an insert form for a table
that uses the validation in the model. i.e. When you click submit on the
form and haven''t filled in the required fields then you get the nice
rails error messages saying "field can not be blank". This works fine
until I introduce some more logic.
What I''m trying to do is to validate

Generating time progressing line for Google Earth
Dear,
I am trying to visualise a time-progressing line (it's supposed to
represent spread patterns) using brew package and Google Earth.
The idea is to have a function which takes start and end point
geographic coordinates, as well as number of intervals to chop the path
up, and returns the collection of points segmenting this line.
Unfortunately my calculations fail for large distances,

Connecting to PostgreSQL/PostGIS from R (rgdal?)
Hello,
I've been trying every now and then to find a cross operating system
solution that would let me access PostgreSQL (and PostGIS) from R, or to
access R from PostgreSQL. I know of pl/r, which accomplishes the
latter, but has yet to be successfully ported to Windows. Similarly,
I've tried to use Rdbi and DBI, but I haven't had luck with those on
Windows either for connecting to

things I miss in wine
Hi there,
there are many issues in wine and you can work around most of them
somehow but there are few that you can not bypass.
Copy Protection:
wine seems to support a few copy protection systems, but not all. No of
course you could say that a nocd crack should be used to work around
that issue, but what if there is none available? Many games are done for
different countries in different

transform shapefiles in UTM to lat/long
Dear all:
I have a shapefile in UTM coordinate system and I would like to transform it
to Lat/Log coordinates (WSG84). The package PBSmapping contains function
convUL to transform between the two coordinate systems when data is in the
form of a data frame with attributes specifying the coordinate system.
However, when shapefiles are imported using function read.shape (package
maptools), a list

GPX files
I have a Garmin 78s marine GPS receiver and it stores tracks in GPX
format. This is an XML encoded set of points giving longitude,
latitude, time and sea depth. Garmin support viewing this via their
Garmin Express product, but there only seem to be Windows and Mac
versions. I've emailed them and await a reply. In the mean time, does
anyone know of any Linux products that will emable me to

[2.6] Perl weirdness with ext3 and HTREE
Hi
I have mailed about this previously, but back then it was not
really confirmed, so I have let it be at that.
Anyhow, problem is that for some reason 2.5/2.6 ext3 with HTREE
support do not like what perl-5.8.0 does during installation.
It *seems* like one of the temporary files created during manpage
installation do not get unlinked properly, or gets into the
hash (this possible?) and cause

Intel libraries
Warning: newbie post
I've scanned the archives and found some discussion of porting some code
so it's integer based as opposed to floating point based.
Has anyone looked at using Intel's Integrated Performance Primitives or
their Math Kernel Library in an effort to optimize the code across all
x86/XScale processors?

package under unix
Hi the list,
I write a package for clusterizing longitudinal data using a non
parametric algorithm. I develop the package under windows. To be as
user friendly as possible, the package use some graphical procedure to
"show" to the user the evolution of the cluster construction, and to
export the graph in a friendly way.
Here are some example : http://christophe.genolini.free.fr/kml

RGDAL OGRwrite question
I have a quick question: It appears that in rgdal v0.7-12 (R version
2.15.1, OSX 10.6.8) writeOGR will not write a shapefile the the
current directory. Is this correct? An earlier version of rgdal must
have allowed this because I have a older script that used to work, but
doesn't now.
So, as an example, here is what I get today:
