I'm relatively new to linux, and haven't worked with r, yet, so please pardon
any things I do not know...
I tried installing r on my computer, and didn't manage to get the program
running.

bug on compilation (PR#11395)
Dear Mr.
Beginning to work on Linux.
I am trying to install R into Ubuntu Gustsy. I installed version 2.5.1 and worked fine. But then I tried to upgrade by adding these lines to sources.list:
deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/debian etch-cran/
deb http://cran.fiocruz.br/bin/linux/ubuntu gutsy/
I introduced the authorization keys (as recommended) and the files were downloaded. But then I

small bug in plot.rpart?
Hi,
This happens in 2.8 and 2.9. I am posting this here because I am not sure
if one should use bug.report for reporting bugs in unreleased versions.
I was trying to run the example from the help page of plot.rpart. I got
> library(rpart)
> fit <- rpart(Price ~ Mileage + Type + Country, cu.summary)
> plot(fit, compress=TRUE)

Small Rcmdr issue
Just installed Rcmdr on a Linux box.
When I exit from both Rcmdr and R together from the regular Rcmdr exit menu,
it leaves my xterm with "stty -echo", so that nothing that is typed appears.
If I exit only Rcmdr, and then exit R normally, everything is okay (stty echo).
Other than that minor irritant, everything seems to work just fine.

making a Time of Day axis
I am wrestling with time and date data. I came up with a way to plot and
label a histogram with "time of day" on the x-axis, but it seemed like a
lot more work than should be necessary. Is there a better way to do what
I am trying to do?
require(chron)
# read input data
data = read.table("input.dat", header=T)

trouble installing building packages from source using R 2.6.0 on Ubuntu Gutsy AMD64
I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu Gutsy and, for the first time, am
using a 64-bit installation. After failing miserably to install R from
source, not a problem for me in the past with a 32-bit install, I went
the route of using the Debian Etch build. This went smoothly, but I am
unable to update my numerous R and BioConductor packages, getting
non-zero exit status errors on each package. Is

rmpi/snow grabs all available CPU
Hi,
I'm testing affyPara on Debian lenny with
R 2.7 from unstable, and the corresponding bioconductor packages from
bioconductor.org downloaded using biocLite as per usual.
The command
cl = makeMPIcluster(k)
succeeds, but spawns k R slaves which promptly soak up all available CPU, which
is odd since they are not doing anything yet. This looks like a bug to me.
Similar behaviour is shown

Possible uninstall problem on windows.
I just uninstalled R 2.7.2 on Windows XP after having installed R 2.8.0
The uninstaller removed the String values
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\R-core\R\Current Version
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\R-core\R\InstallPath
despite the fact that they pointed to R 2.8.0
The uninstaller did not remove the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\R-core\R\2.7.2
(and all the values in that key)
I think the

Upgrade
I recentlry tried to upgrade to 2.8.0. I ended up uninstalling 2.7.2 and installing 2.8.0 becuase the line in the FAQ states:
That's a matter of taste. For most people the best thing to do is to uninstall R (see the previous Q), install the new version, copy any installed packages to the library folder in the new installation, run update.packages(checkBuilt=TRUE, ask=FALSE) in the new R and

R echoes integer literals incorrectly, under certain conditions (PR#13204)
Full_Name: Stephen Milborrow
Version: R 2.8.0
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (81.159.65.46)
Under certain conditions, R 2.8.0 incorrectly echoes integer literals without
the "L" suffix. R 2.7.2 is ok.
To reproduce, create two files as follows:
a.R containing: source("b.R", echo=TRUE)
b.R containing: x <- 1L
Now execute: Rterm --vanilla --silent <a.R

Umlaut read from csv-file
Dear All!
Reading character strings containing an "umlaut"
from a csv-file I find a (to me) surprising
behaviour in R 2.8.0, that I did not notice in R 2.7.2.
A comparison by "==" results in FALSE, while grep does find the aggreement.
See the example below.
The crucial line is x=="div 1-2 Ver?nderungen",
with the result [1] FALSE in R 2.8.0 but
[1] TRUE in R

Can't open files containing russian letters in path (PR#13195)
Full_Name: Arkady Sherman
Version: 2.8.0
OS: Windows XP sp3 ntfs file system
Submission from: (NULL) (158.195.166.129)
Freshly installed version 2.7.2 works well, but 2.8.0 can't open files with
russian letters in its names. In error messages the letters are replaced with
different symbols.
