Select not providing default option
Hello all. I am running Rails 1.0 and am having trouble with the select box. In the API it says. "Create a select tag and a series of contained option tags for the provided object and method. The option currently held by the object will be selected, provided that the object is available. See options_for_select for the required format of the choices parameter." and then goes on to

has_and_belongs_to_many and collections management
Sorry for the big post. I''m having a lot of confusion when trying to implement a simple model relationship that uses all the good things of ActiveRecord. I need to store some dinamic entries about knowledge of certain people on the database. A knowledge is measured with another table, with a range of possible values for a knowledge. This is a reduced schema of my database: create table

runif and sample with reproducibility
Hello, I would like to sample a population but the result needs to be reproducible, using 'runif' or 'sample' is the good way to do it but I can't manage to make the results reproducible even with the 'set.seed' function. My aim is that th call to 'sample(1:100,10)' gives always the same result, how can I do that? Thanks! Eric Esposito

Everything is working as expected on my development machine (OSX, Rails 0.14.4) but is cacking out with weird errors on the Textdrive demo site (FreeBSD, Rails 1.0.0). It complains about missing variables, with errors like this: undefined local variable or method `rawcode'' for

Breakdowns in has_many abstraction
I discovered an interesting aspect of has_many behavior that I''m struggling to work around. I''m not sure if I''m doing something wrong, or if it''s a legitimate bug, or if it''s an inherent part of Rails that I just have to learn to deal with. It boils down to these two problems: - changes in collection objects (i.e. models that belong_to a container
