Error with user defined split function in rpart (PR#7895)
Full_Name: Bill Wheeler Version: 2.0.1 OS: Windows 2000 Submission from: (NULL) (67.130.36.229) The program to reproduce the error is below. I am calling rpart with a user-defined split function for a binary response variable and one continuous independent variable. The split function works for some datasets but not others. need help with plot.rpart and text.rpart
Hi, I am new to R and need help with rpart. I am trying to create a classification tree using rpart. In order to plot the reults I use the plot function and the text function to label the plot of the tree dendrogram with text. The documentation of text.rpart says : "For the "class" method, label="yval" results in the factor levels being used, "yprob" results

Inconsistencies in the rpart.object help file?
Hello all, I'm was going through the help for ?rpart.object And noticed some inconsistencies, Some might be a mistake in the help file and some might be my misunderstanding. The help in the section: value -> frame (first paragraph), states that: > yval, the fitted value of the response at each node, *and splits, a two > column matrix of left and right split labels for each node. *

Some questions on Rpart algorithm
Hello: I am using rpart and would like more background on how the splits are made and how to interpret results - also how to properly use text(.rpart). I have looked through Venables and Ripley and through the rpart help and still have some questions. If there is a source (say, Breiman et al) on decision trees that would clear this all up, please let me know. The questions below pertain to a

user defined function in rpart
Hi, I am trying to use the rpart library with my own set of functions on a survival object. I get an immeadiate segmentation fault when i try calling rpart with my list of functions. I get the same problem with the logrank example from Therneau,s S-rpart library though their anova example works. Should I report this as a bug, as even if my functions are structured improperly, that should lead to

bug in rpart?
Dear R-helpers, Can you help me to see why "code 1" gives error while "code 2" runs fine? The only difference in the data is the distribution of age categories. I am attaching the session after the code. Many thanks. XL library(survival) library(rpart) # code 1 n <- 20 age <- rep(1:3, c(2, 3, 15)) eg<- data.frame(rexp(n), rbinom(n,1,prob=.3), age=age)

cdplot() with 'POSIXct' x
Hi, Given that cdplot() is used to produce the conditional density of a categorical y along a numerical x, it seems natural that it could be used with a date or time x (such as 'POSIXct'). Is this desirable? If so, I've created a patch that would allow this, by coercing the POSIXct x variable to produce the density, but use the original POSIXct x to draw the x axis. Index:

rpart subsets
A few weeks back I posted that the subset feature of rpart was not working when predicting a categorical variable. I was able to figure out a simple solution to the problem that I hope can be included in future editions of rpart. I also include a fix for another related problem. The basic problem is that when predicting a categorical using a subset, the subset may not have all the categories

Help in Compliling user -defined functions in Rpart
I have been trying to write my own user defined function in Rpart.I imitated the anova splitting rule which is given as an example.In the work I am doing ,I am calculating the concentration index(ci) ,which is in between -1 and +1.So my deviance is given by abs(ci)*(1-abs(ci)).Now when I run rpart incorporating this user defined function i get the following error message: Error in

Problem with random number simulation
Hi this is my first post. I am trying to run a simulation for a computer playing Von Neumann poker and adjusting it's expectation of an opponent's behavior according to how the opponent plays. This program involves random generation of "hands" and shifting of parameters. However, when I run the code, no errors come up, but the program doesn't do anything. Could someone

[Announce] nPth - The New GNU Portable Threads Library
Hi! We are pleased to announce the first tarball release of the New GNU Portable Threads Library: nPth version 0.90. nPth is a non-preemptive threads implementation using an API very similar to the one known from GNU Pth. It has been designed as a replacement of GNU Pth for non-ancient operating systems. In contrast to GNU Pth is is based on the system's standard threads implementation.

Subsetting within xyplot()
All, I'm having problems w/ a simple attempt to subset an xyplot. The first plot below is a plot of y versus x for certain values of a third categorical variable z. Now I'd like to further restrict this to certain values of variable y. Neither of the two attempts below work. Any suggestions much appreciated. (note: I don't want to merely use ylim since I have a loess plot and I

text.rpart for the "class" method doesn't act on label="yprob"
Hello All, Am I misreading the documentation? The text.rpart documentation says: "label a column name of x$frame; values of this will label the nodes. For the "class" method, label="yval" results in the factor levels being used, "yprob" results in the probability of the winning factor level being used, and ?specific yval level? results in the probability of
