New York Times - R - article a fraud?
I worked on some ad data before and I found NYT article very biaised and not far from a fraud... Anyone knows if they got money from a - company - to play 'R'?
Check out the title: R U Ready for R? Seems to me this title was stolen from XLSolutions www.xlsolutions-corp.com and they never mentioned XLSolutions in the article!
They mentioned commercial R....never mentioned

How to deal with PayPal frauds?
I charge my customers through PayPal, but recently faced a fraud which
previously had only heard about. Somebody registered a few accounts, paid
online with paypal (as my service is only prepaid) and started making
expensive long distance calls. In fact the IP registering the accounts was
from Florida, and IPs making calls were from Africa. After about 20 minutes
the first payment was reversed.

Question on implementing Random Forests scoring
So I've been working with Random Forests ( R library is randomForest) and I
curious if Random Forests could be applied to classifying on a real time
basis. For instance lets say I've scored fraud from a group of
transactions. If I want to score any new incoming transactions for fraud
could Random Forests be used in that context. Linear Regression is nice in
that it is very easy to

Is GoVarion a fraud ???
Hi,
Some days ago I spent about US$700,00 in a Tormenta III board in
www.govarion.com. I used credit card.
I didn't receive any answer for my emails and there is no telephone number

Now, I'd like to cancel this order, because I couldn?t wait so long, and my
credit card was billed.
Is www.govarion.com a fraud ???? Does anybody know something about them ??
Thanks.

Looking for a prepaid calling card platform
I'm looking for a prepaid calling card platform that:
* easily scales to multiple servers with a common database for: redundancy, capacity, and performance
Looking to start with capacity to handle 100 simultaneous calls and be able to easily scale to 1000+ simultaneous calls.
* in addition to the normal anti-fraud measures, supports an API for easily adding new anti-fraud tests along the

[OT] Purchasing Rails beta book and CC Verification
Did anyone else who purchased the Rails betabook get a telephone call
from someone at "Humboldt Merchants" (sp?) asking to verify their
purchase, ostensibly to ensure there was no fraud (on the part of the
merchant, not the person buying the book)?
They knew my name, phone number, the title of the book I bought and
the type of credit card I used. They didn''t give or ask for the

Investigating international calls fraud
Did you have a look at the phone it self already?
Is call forwarding activated or something and can you call the
phone/extension from externally?
I have seen this in the past where an employee enabled call forwarding
on the phone and once at home he or family called the phone which
forwarded the call to abroad.
Good luck. Michel.

fraud advice
Hi,
Embarrassed as I am to write this, I am hoping for some advice. One of
our very first PBX installs, now six years old, was "taken advantage of"
over the past few weeks. A victim of sipvicious, I assume, that managed
to guess one of the SIP passwords. 4000 calls to various middle eastern
destinations have been placed, which ended up being sent over our
customer's PSTN

Is there any way of doing this in R?

"Fixing the Caller-ID Problem", by John Todd for O'ReillyNet
This seems like a piece members of this list would find interesting...
===
There is growing concern over the interaction of VoIP systems
with the legacy PSTN, and the transmission of caller identity
data--most notably, Caller ID on the PSTN. It is not always
possible, or obvious how, to handle Caller ID data when moving
to or from VoIP and the PSTN networks. There are even business

Investigating international calls fraud
You don't mention if the phone is remote, or local. Although you do mention it had a default user/pass. If the UI of the phone was/is accessible from the I'net, the GUI does have the ability to place a call from it, that is one way the calls could have been placed.
