error options
Hi, I'm running simulations that include a function that occasionally fails because of an unpredictable singularity in a matrix that it tries to invert. I'd like to have the function return 'NA' when that happens, so that the simulations can continue. I've tried things like: test <- function() { options(error=return(NA)) x <- solve(0) return(x) }

segfault when running heatmap()
Hi, I was wondering if someone in the mailing list has any insight into this segfault error that I consistently find when running a script containing heatmap() in R 2.8.1 and 2.8.0 on a Linux 64-bit machine. Some points: 1. This occurs when running heatmap(). 2. Interestingly, if I source() the script or copy and paste the script in its entirety, this error occurs. However, if I run the

help with rowsum/aggregate type functions
Hi-- This is a question with a trivial and obvious answer, I'm sure, but I can't seem to find it in the help files and books that I have handy. I have a dataframe consisting of two columns, "Gene_Name," a list of gene symbols, and "Number," a numeric measure of how frequently a tag representing that gene showed up in a SAGE library. Several of the genes are

It seems that each revisions of xen unstable are getting slower and slower. Recently I can boot freenas it stops at option screen. I have to press 1 before it goes to screen in order for me to boot freenas (runnning under (hvm). Server 2012 started to slow down also. I was running instance and when I connected to it was very sluggish I had rebooted it and now seems normal. I tested virtual hard

Refresh times very slow for simple plots.
Hello everybody, On my system (R 2.15.1-4 on Debian Stable plus some updates), resizing graphic windows (by stretching their borders with the mouse) takes one order of magnitude more time than redrawing them (by running the command again). For instance, the command ??plot(data.frame(rnorm(10), rnorm(10), rnorm(10)))?? is executed almost instantely, but if I resize the graphics window, it takes 3

Gluster machines slowing down over time
I have 2 gluster servers in replicated mode on EC2 with ~4G RAM CPU and RAM look fine but over time the system becomes sluggish, particularly networking. I notice when sshing into the machine takes ages and running remote commands with capistrano takes longer and longer. Any kernel settings people typically use? Thanks, Tom -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

compaq R4000 update (hogging interrupts)
After a couple hours last night.... doing a "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" bumps up the /proc/cpuinfo information for cpu mhz to 2393 Mhz. I did notice a little increase after that. However, the machine is still sluggish. I did a "hdparm -c 1 /dev/hda" but really did not notice any difference. I tried to download fglrx64_6_8_0_8.16.20-1.x86_64.rpm from ati (also 8.20.8) and get

Odd, slow Windows XP client download behavior
I recently set up a Samba server (3.0.24-6etch9) on my debian etch system. While accessing its shares through 1GBit Ethernet with a Windows XP SP2 client there's some real odd behavior: In one direction (uploading files from WinXP -> debian) the speed is just great, no matter what, around 35MiB/s. In the other direction (downloading a file WinXP <- debian) it idles at around 120KiB/s

sluggish stream problem - help
Hi, I am a newbie here. I just tried to set up mp3 streamer server on Redhat Linux 7.2, using icecast and shout. I then tried to connect to the server, from another machine and different LAN, using xmms. And the stream is so sluggish, it gets cuts off for every 2 seconds or so. Both LANs (the server and where I am connected from) are T1. My mp3 was all encoded in 128 KBps. I then asked someone

ext3 tuning parameters. what are they
When memory is low, ext3 gets a bit sluggish cursor getting jumpy etc. I say ext3 because I don't see a similar behavior with ext2. What are the ext3 tuning variables that I can try? For example, I see a message like "commit interval 5 seconds" in /var/log/dmesg.

Diablo2 performances
Hello. I'm trying to run Diablo 2 under wine. The game installs fine (D2 + LoD + Patch 1.11b), but I experience some serious performances issues. Wine is set to Windows XP mode (otherwise, the game protection doesn't work). The game is very sluggish when the minimap is open, when setting the key binding, or on battle.net menus. The only choice I got from D2VidTst.exe is DirectDraw HAL.

IP SEC filtering issue
First thing to note is that I am using FreeBSD 4.8 . We would like to send only the syn packet of a tcp connection through certain ipsec tunnels and the rest of the packets in a connection though a simple transport mode setup. Yeah, I know it's strange but what can I say -- we do a lot of strange things. From the best I can tell, the setkey/spadd filtering capability isn't sophisticated
