Installing pkgs
Hello there!
I'm running R 2.7.1 in a "x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu" platform. While some
packages like "distrib" installed smoothly, I'm having problems to install
"nlme" and "lattice". I have tried both "install.packages()" and R CMD
INSTALL. For example,
[root at localhost Download]# R CMD INSTALL lattice_0.17-13.tar.gz

R_GlobalEnv
Hi,
I'm trying to access the current R global environment from
within C, using R_GlobalEnv.
In the example below, Rgui (R 1.7.0. Win2K) crashes when I try
to run assignValueToFooInR_GlobalEnv, but not when I run
assignValueToFooInRhoEnv with Rho=.GlobalEnv. Can anyone tell me why?
[ My motivation is that I want use defineVar to initialise a

Bug? in some package installations when a Print is added in memory.c
Hi All,
The first time i noticed this problem is when i enabled some debug
prints in memory.c
DEBUG_GC
DEBUG_ADJUST_HEAP
DEBUG_RELEASE_MEM etc.. These have some prints for debugging .Base R package
installation completes well and good.
The problem comes when some of the Recommended package installation happens.
The following Packages fail "KernSmooth,lattice,rpart,cluster,survival

Segfault on ".C" registration via R_CMethodDef according to 'Writing R Extensions'.
Dear R List,
I encountered a serious problem regarding the registration of ".C" when following the documentation "Writing R Extensions"
that leads to a segmentation fault (tested on windows and mac os x).
The registration mechanism for ".C" routines via R_registerRoutines and
the R_CMethodDef structure has been enhanced recently with the
addition of two fields, one

Trouble installing package in development version of R
Dear R-devel,
I'm trying to get practice learning more about the internals of R so am
experimenting with the development version. I successfully cloned the SVN
repo and built and installed R. I am using 2014-01-23 r64861.
However, I cannot seem to install the lattice package. I tried within R
using install.packages and got the error
sh: 1: 1: not found
I then downloaded the tar.gz and tried

Segfault Problem c++ R interface (detailed)
Hello R Community,
I've been working on a project that uses pre-made C++ libraries (using STL)
in R and build a package. However, I've been getting an unusual segfault
that I'm unable to trace its origin. After many attempts of debugging using
gdb, commenting out parts (or all of my code) and valgrind, I'm unable to
make heads or tails about what I'm doing wrong. In fact, when

How to call directly "dotTcl" C-function of the tcltk-package from the C-code of an external package?
I have a use case with tcltk-package where I need to repeatedly call Tcl/Tk functions
very quickly. For such purpose, the standard R-interface turned out to be too slow, and
better option has been to call package's C-function dotTcl directly from my own C-code.
Before R 4.4.0 it was possible to use getNativeSymbolInfo("dotTcl","tcltk")$address (or

How to call directly "dotTcl" C-function of the tcltk-package from the C-code of an external package?
I asked Tomas.
Apparently this works:
getNativeSymbolInfo("dotTcl",PACKAGE=getLoadedDLLs()$tcltk)
and the tcltk behavior was changed by

Problem with R_registerRoutines
Dear list,
I am trying to update a package to pass the CRAN-checks.
But I am struggling with the following note:
File 'psgp/libs/i386/psgp.dll':
Found no calls to: 'R_registerRoutines', 'R_useDynamicSymbols'
File 'psgp/libs/x64/psgp.dll':
Found no calls to: 'R_registerRoutines', 'R_useDynamicSymbols'
It is good practice to register native

Problem with R_registerRoutines
Thanks a lot for your answer Jeroen!
I should have mentioned that I had actually only checked with the win-builder, as I did not have R-devel installed on my computer.
But based on your answer I installed R-devel locally on a Linux-server (Redhat), and the package could be checked without the NOTE. So you might be right that this is a windows issue. However, another package that I am maintaining

registering Fortran routines in R packages
Thanks for your email.
I try to change the name in lowercase but it conflicts with a C implementation also named halton. So I rename the C function halton2() and sobol2() while the Fortran function are HALTON() and SOBOL() (I also try lower case in the Fortran code). Unfortunately, it does not help since I get

Problem with R-2.1.0: install.packages() doesn't work
I installed R-2.1.0 from source on a Linux box running Red Hat
Enterprise Linux WS release 4 but install.packages() wouldn't work (see
below). When I install R-2.0.1 from RPM on the same system, everything
is fine.

Possible to get a definition of a function from a package to use without invoking the package?
Hi,
I often use the mod() and instring() functions that are available in the
clim.pact package. This package has a lot of dependencies, including
installation of netCDF, and I haven't yet been able to get
library(clim.pact) to work on a Mac OS 10.4.6. A previous request for
help with the Mac problem yielded no results, so now I wonder if I could
just extract the definitions for the couple

Problem with number characters
I am trying to process text fields scanned in from a csv file that is
output from the Windows database program FileMakerPro. The characters
onscreen look like regular text, but R does not like their underlying binary form.
For example, one of text fields contains a name and a number, but
R recognizes the number as something other than what it appears
to be in plain text. The character string

Using an image background with graphics
I would like to use a map or aerial photo as a background to plotting
solid lines and text, and semi-transparent color contours, in base and
lattice graphics. Plot coordinates need to be consistent with the
georeferenced background. For example, a color contour plot would have
an gray-toned aerial photograph as a background for overprinted
semi-transparent color contours of some spatially

rimage doesn't install on Mac OS X 10.4
Hi,
I'm trying to install rimage on a Mac OS X 10.4 machine. I followed the
advice in previous R-help threads and got over the hurdles of having the
header files in the right places, among other things. But I can't
figure out what to do with this error.

levelplot and unequal cell sizes
I am using levelplot() from lattice with grids that have unequal cell
sizes. This means that the boundary between two cells is not always
half-way between nodes, as levelplot() assumes. The result is that some
cell sizes are rendered incorrectly, which can be painfully obvious if
using relatively large cells. Is there any work-around? I am using the
conditioning capability of lattice and

Tagging identical rows of a matrix
I would like to generate a vector having the same length
as the number of rows in a matrix. The vector should contain
an integer indicating the "group" of the row, where identical
matrix rows are in a group, and a unique row has a unique integer.
Thus, for
a <- c(1,2)
b <- c(1,3)
c <- c(1,2)
d <- c(1,2)
e <- c(1,3)
f <- c(2,1)
mat <- rbind(a,b,c,d,e,f)

Problem with R_registerRoutines
On Windows this warning may be a false positive if R cannot find
"objdump.exe" which is required for this check. I think this is
actually a bug in R because it should be looking for "objdump.exe"
inside BINPREF (where gcc is) rather than on the PATH.
Can you check if you get the same warning if you upload the package to
https://win-builder.r-project.org ?

Using contour3d: axes, plotting to file, with lattice
I am looking for examples of how to plot with contour3d() to a PNG or PDF file, add axes and other elements to the isosurface plot, and use contour3d in conjunction with lattice. Regarding lattice, I'm not necessarily looking for conditioning on the data shown in the isosurface plots, just a way to show multiple plots in one figure and label them. I am new to the packages misc3d and rgl.
