Problem with Mclust
Dear All, I fear I am badly misunderstanding something fundamental about the mclust package. Please considered the dataset pasted at the end of the email (you can also have a look at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5685598/dataedges.csv ). Now, I would like to use the info on columns 1,2 and 4 to predict the value in column 3. However, when I run the script below (obg_mining_script.R), I get

Use of ellipses ... in argument list of optim(), integrate(), etc.
Hi, I have noticed that there is a change in the use of ellipses or . in R versions 2.6.1 and later. In versions 2.5.1 and earlier, the . were always at the end of the argument list, but in 2.6.1 they are placed after the main arguments and before method control arguments. This results in the user having to specify the exact (complete) names of the control arguments, i.e. partial matching is

Gcc 3.4.0 and syslinux-2.09 menu
The menu directory won't compile with gcc 3.4.0 because gcc complains that "ebp" cannot be used as a constraint. If preserving ebp is necessary then it will have to be done in the assembler code. Gcc 3.3.3 just seems to ignore the constraint. It didn't do anything special to preserve the register. I also noticed that getnumrows returns the contents of 0x484 which is the

Confidence interval from resampling
Dear R gurus, I have the following code, but I still not know how to estimate and extract confidence intervals (95%CI) from resampling. Thanks! ~Adriana #data penta<-c(770,729,640,486,450,410,400,340,306,283,278,260,253,242,240,229,201,198,190,186,180,170,168,151,150,148,147,125,117,110,107,104,85,83,80,74,70,66,54,46,45,43,40,38,10) x<-log(penta+1) plot(ecdf(x),

correlation between matrices - both with some NAs
Hi everyone, I'm having trouble applying the Cor() function to two matrices, both of which contain NAs. I am doing the following: a<-cor(m1, m2, use="complete.obs") ... and I get the following error message: Error in cor(m1, m2, use = "complete.obs") : no complete element pairs Does anyone know how I can apply a correlation, ignoring any NAs? Thanks, rcoder --

gdata selectively not working
I can use gdata to successfully read in the example Excel file, but not any other excel files. Why might this be the case? It seems that the problem has something to do with opening the database but no indication as to what the problem is. So i'm at a loss of how to fix it. > library(gdata) gdata: read.xls support for 'XLS' (Excel 97-2004) files ENABLED. gdata: read.xls support

splitting dataframe, assign to new dataframe, add new rows to new dataframe
Hi, all, My objective is to split a dataframe named "cmbine" according to the value of "classes". After the split, I will take the first instance from each class and bin them into a new dataframe, "df1". In the 2nd iteration, I will take the 2nd available instance and bin them into another new dataframe, "df2". >cmbine$names apple tiger pencil chicken

Numerical instability in new R Windows development version
I have a question concerning the new Windows toolchain for R >= 2.14.2. When trying out my package 'pracma' on the win-builder development version it will stop with the following error message: > f3 <- function(x, y) sqrt((1 - (x^2 + y^2)) * (x^2 + y^2 <= 1)) > dblquad(f3, -1, 1, -1, 1) # 2.094395124 , i.e. 2/3*pi , err = 2e-8 Warning in sqrt((1 - (x^2 + y^2)) *

phpMyAdmin can't connect to remote server
Hi All, I have had a thread about this going on the phpMyAdmin list for a little while. Nobody there has been able to shed any light on my problem. It seems that with phpMyAdmin I can not connect to remote servers. Though it also seems that apache, php and mysqli all work fine outside of phpMyAdmin. Below I have detailed my trouble shooting. This only seems to be an issue for me with CentOS 5 so
