Need help merging two dataframes
Hi R users, I am trying to extract some attributes (age, sex, area) from dataframe "AB" that has 101,269 observations of 28 variables to dataframe "t2" that has 47 observations of 6 variables. They share a column called "id", which is a factor with 47 levels. I want to end up with a dataframe that has 47 observations of 9 variables (the original 6 variables of t2,

Formula with no intercept
I'm trying to analyze a model with two variables, one is Group with two levels (male and female), and other is Time with four levels (T1, T2, T3 and T4). And for the convenience of post-hoc testing I wanted to consider a model with no intercept for factor Time, so I tried formula Group*(Time-1) However this seems to give me the following terms in the model GroupMale, GroupFemale, TimeT2,

Kaplan-Meier plotting quirks
Better would be to use interval censored data. Create your data set so that you have (time1, time2) pairs, each of which describes the interval of time over which the tag was lost. So an animal first captured at time 10 sans tag would be (0,10); with tag at 5 and without at 20 would be (5,20), and last seen with tag at 30 would be (30, NA). Then survit(Surv(time1, time2,

Creating subsets of a matrix
Hello, Say I have 2 columns, bmi and gender, the first being all the values and the second being male or female. How would I subset this into males only and females only? I have searched these fora and read endlessly about select[] and split() functions but to no avail. Also the table is not ordered. bmi gender -> bmi gender + bmi gender 1 24.78 male

I need to create new variables based on two numeric variables and one dichotomize conditional category variables.
I might have factored the gender. I'm not sure it would in any way be quicker. But might be to some extent easier to develop variations of. And is sort of what factors should be doing... # make dummy data gender <- c("Male", "Female", "Male", "Female") WC <- c(70,60,75,65) TG <- c(0.9, 1.1, 1.2, 1.0) myDf <- data.frame( gender, WC, TG ) #

Nested ANOVA models in R
Hi, I'm trying to work through a Nested ANOVA for the following scenario: 20 males were used to fertilize eggs of 4 females per male, so that female is nested within male (80 females used total). Spine length was measured on 11 offspring per family, resulting in 880 measurements on 80 families. I used the following two commands: summary(aov(Spinelength ~ Male*Female)) and

Barplot+Table
I am trying to automate a report that my company does every couple of years for the state of Maine. In the past we have used SPSS to run the data and then used complicated Excel template to make the tables/graphics which we then imported into Word. Since there are 256 tables/graphics for this report, this work flow is a little painful. I would like to automate the process and I think I can do

How to compare the effect of a variable across regression models?
Hello, I would like, if it is possible, to compare the effect of a variable across regression models. I have looked around but I haven't found anything. Maybe someone could help? Here is the problem: I am studying the effect of a variable (age) on an outcome (local recurrence: lr). I have built 3 models: - model 1: lr ~ age y = \beta_(a1).age - model 2: lr ~ age + presentation

as.integer and indexes error
Hello All, I would like to report the following bug or maybe you can explain if I am wrong. I am sampling from two different populations with weights. The two populations have the same age groups and I want to distinguish where I am sampling from. That is why I am using a matrix such as: matrix age.group Male Females Weight.Males Weight.Females 1 1.1

hi have a question about merging.
this is the problem: load this R data frame over the internet and save it to your hard drive. http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/twang/data/raceproling.RData please show how to save a dataset of males only (the variable male=1) to a new dataframe. Then do the same thing for females (male=0). Then show how to recombine the two datasets to belike the original one except that the female

Area between CDFs
Dear List: I am trying to find the area between two ECDFs. I am examining the gap in performance between two groups, males and females on a student achievement test in math, which is a continuous metric. I start by creating a subset of the dataframe male<-subset(datafile, female="Male") female<-subset(datafile, female="Female") I then plot the two CDFs via

Help me improving my code
Hi, I am new to R. My problem is with the ordered logistic model. Here is my question: Generate an order discrete variable using the variable wrwage1 = wages in first full calendar quarter after benefit application in the following way: * wage*1*Ordered *= 1 *if*0 *· wrwage*1 *< *1000 2 *if*1000 *· wrwage*1 *< *2000 3 *if*2000 *· wrwage*1 *< *3000 4 *if*3000 *· wrwage*1 *<

I need to create new variables based on two numeric variables and one dichotomize conditional category variables.
Just a minor point in the suggested solution: df$LAP <- with(df, ifelse(G=='male', (WC-65)*TG, (WC-58)*TG)) since WC and TG are not conditional, would this be a slight improvement? df$LAP <- with(df, TG*(WC - ifelse(G=='male', 65, 58))) -----Original Message----- From: R-help <r-help-bounces at r-project.org> On Behalf Of Jorgen Harmse via R-help Sent: Friday,

Hi all, I have a data set with time interval and depending on the interval I want to create 5 more variables . Ii is difficult to provide useful help, because you have failed to read and follow the posting guide. In particular: 1. Plain text, not HTML. 2. Use dput() or provide code to create your example. Text printouts such as that which you gave require some work to wrangle into into an example that we can test. Specifically: 3. Have you gone through any R tutorials?-- it sure doesn't look like

I need to create new variables based on two numeric variables and one dichotomize conditional category variables.
There are many techniques Callum and yours is an interesting twist I had not considered. Yes, you can specify what integer a factor uses to represent things but not what I meant. Of course your trick does not work for some other forms of data like real numbers in double format. There is a cost to converting a column to a factor that is recouped best if it speeds things up multiple times. The

How to convert Datetime numbers from Excel to POSIXt objects
Hi all, I need to compare time series data files of different time formats. I had no problems with text format using strptime. But how can I convert datetime numbers from Excel (days since 30.12.1899 00:00:00) into POSIXt objects? For example 29770.375 should be converted to "03.07.1981 09:00:00" I tried the following code and encountered strange results: t1-t0 gives 29770.33
