diagonally fill a rectangle with color gradient
Hi, Is it possible to diagonally fill a rectangle with a color gradient? I noticed that the gradient.rect of plotrix could fill a rect either up and down or from side to side. I am looking for something similar but fills diagonally instead, e.g., from the upper left corner to the bottom right. Does anyone know how to do it in R? Thanks, -- Tom [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

is it possible to fill with a color or transparency gradient?
Hi all, Is there a way to fill a rectangle or polygon with a color and/or transparency gradient? This would be extremely useful for me in terms of adding some additional information to some plots I'm making, especially if I could define the gradient on my own by putting functions into rgb something like rgb( r=f(x,y), g=f(x,y), b=f(x,y), alpha=f(x,y) ). Not so important whether the

patch to set start- and end-color-stop for the skydome fallback gradient
Greetings everybody! I was asked by someone (from the beryl-forum) if/how one could alter the values for the two color-stops used by the fallback-gradient of the skydome (for the case the supplied image could not be found). Up to now they were hardcoded, but with this patch they can be set via... /apps/compiz/plugins/cube/screen0/options/skydome_gradient_start_color

grid.polygon() + color gradient
Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to generate a polygon (a triangle in my case) with color gradient using grid.polygon() in package grid? I tried something like library(grid) grid.polygon(x=c(0, 0.5, 1), y=c(0.5, 1, 0.5), gp=gpar(col=NA, fill=colorRampPalette(c("green", "lightgray"), space="Lab")(200))) But am only

Graphing: plot 3rd variable based on color gradient
Hello, I am searching for the best method to plot two variables with points whose output color depends on the size of a third variable. For example, the darkness of the x-y point would increase incrementally based on the size of the z value, similar to the colramp parameter in geneplotter. This would be analagous to symbols(), except changing the selection from the color gradient rather than the

draw a circle with a gradient fill
Hi all,I would like to draw a simple circle where the color gradient follows the rule color = 1/(r^2) where r is the distance from the circle. I would also like to add a color bar with values going from -40 to -110 (and associate those with the color gradient that fills the circle). So far I experiemented with draw circle

parallel rotated strips with color gradient
Hi, I want to produce two parallel rotated strips with color gradient. So far, the sample strip is something produced by this: pushViewport(viewport(x = unit(0.638, "npc"), y =unit(0.386, "npc"), width=.62, height=0.006, angle=137.2)) grid.rect(y=100:1/100, just="top", gp=gpar(col=NA, fill=colorRampPalette(c("lightgray",

"negative alpha" or custom gradient colors of data dots in scatterplot ?
I know that by setting alpha to for example col = rgb(0, 0, 0, 0.1) it is possible to see how many overlapping is in the plot. But disadvantage of it is that single points are barely visible on the background. So I wonder if there is possible to make setting that single points would be almost black, but with more and more data on the same spot it would get more and more whiteish. Or maybe it is

wireframe() display a graph with two colors, not a gradient.
Hi all, I'm quite new to wireframe, essentially what I want to do is display a graph, and z-values > 1 would be yellow and those < 1 would be blue. This is a bit of my data. 0.334643563 0.350913807 0.383652307 0.370325283 0.38779016 0.42387392 0.39861579 0.418389687 0.460692165 0.43888516 0.468015843 0.520560489 0.499544084 0.535099422 0.60982153 0.569888047 0.634351734

Set colors in a PCA plot based on a gradient vector
Hi all, I'm making a PCA plot with eight variables (columns taken from a larger data frame "fieldTrial0809[idx,c(39:46)]"). I then want the symbols in the plot to be colored as a gradient from red to blue, depending on the value of another column in "fieldTrial0809[idx, c(48)]" containg temperatures from -12.1 to -5.4. I don't want to use the heat.colors(n)

creating rainbow gradients
Hi, how can I create a rainbow gradient in R? For example, let's say I have a plot of y = x...and I want the plot to go from red -> orange -> yellow -> green -> blue -> etc. Right now, I know how to do something like go from red to blue, using the plotrix library: library(plotrix) redToBlue <-

gradient generation
Dear R-help subscribers; I have a question regarding making gradients in R. I've searched on the web, but was only able to find functions that make a gradient between color X and Y, which is not what I want. I want to 'pick out' individual, smaller pieces of a gradient based on a range of numbers. Say that I have a range of numbers, leading from 0 to 1. Then I want 0 to refer to

How can I pick a matrix from a function? (Out Product of Gradient)
Hi all, I would like to use optim() to estimate the equation by the log-likelihood function and gradient function which I had written. I try to use OPG(Out Product of Gradient) to calculate the Hessian matrix since sometime Hessian matrix is difficult to calculate. Thus I want to pick the Gradient matrix from the gradient function. Moreover, could R show the process of calculation on gradient

optimization and gradient
Dear all, I am using the functions 'optim' and 'nlminb'. For both, you can provide a function which computes the gradient of the objective function (to enhance speed and precision). In my case, both the objective function and the gradient take time to be computed and share many common computations (similar matrix, products, etc...). Therefore, I have to compute these

supplying gradient to constrOptim()
Hi, I'm very interested in using the constrOptim() function currently in the R-devel sources. In particular, I'm trying to fit point process conditional intensity models via maximum likelihood. However, I noticed that the gradient of the objective function must be supplied for all but the Nelder-Mead method. I was wondering why this was because optim() itself does not require a gradient

How to obtain final gradient estimation from optim
I use optim to compute maximum likelihood estimations without giving an analytical gradient to optim. However, I would like to get an output of the final numerical gradient vector and the final matrix of contributions to the gradient. But I did not find any mention of this kind of output in help pages. Does anyone know how to do that ? Stephane Luchini GREQAM Marseille, France

linear gradient in nls
Hello, I hope this doesn't turn into a statistics question but here I go. I am using the nls function with a Gaussian distribution, see coding below. When I run the nls I get an error back saying that I have a linear gradient. I then, of course am unable to do anything else. The data that I am using are intensity values from some mass spectrometry data. Is there something I can

However, when I use OPTIMX with BFGS( or spg), I've got the following an error message. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > optimx(par=theta0, fn=obj.fy, gr=gr.fy, method="BFGS", >
