problems with .svg
Dear everybody!
I am making a graph in R and employ pstoedit to expot the .pdf-output
to .svg.
When I open the .svg with firefox I get the .svg-code shown wit the
following header:
"Mit dieser XML-Datei sind anscheinend keine Style-Informationen
verkn?pft. Nachfolgend wird die Baum-Ansicht des Dokuments angezeigt."
Which information should how be included?
Thank you in advance.

FWIW, here is a list of base* functions masked** by CRAN packages:

Look at the long table in the end. simulate indeed comes up

Alternating numbers in rep()
All,
I'm trying to obtain a one-liner to generate a certain sequence of
alternatign numbers.
Consider:
> unlist(rep(list(c(1,2), c(3,4)), each = 6))
[1] 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 3 4 3 4 3 4 3 4 3 4 3 4
I'd like the result to be as above but continue until 38. Of course, I
could hardcode this going up to c(37,38), but is there a more elegant way?
Thanks!

Numerical Integration
Hey, all
Now I am using EM algorithm to do some
optimization. Within that E-step, I have to
calculate some multivariate integration
given some parameter values Theta and function form
of a probability density function f.
So I want to know if there are some package
in R to do such numerical integration given such
function form and parameter values?
Thanks for your kind support on this.

how to get the index of entry with max value in an array?
Hi all:
A short question:
For example, a=[3,4,6,2,3], obviously the 3rd entry of the array has the maxium value, what I want is index of the maxium value: 3. is there a neat expression to get this index?
Thank you!
Best,

The three-dot question

Why does not the three-dot accept arguments from the parent environment?
I am just confused with this error, can someone give me a hint?

Conditional rows
Hi,
Given a simple example, test <- matrix(c(0.1, 0.2, 0.1, 0.2, 0.1, 0.1, 0.3,
0.1, 0.1), 3, 3)
How to generate row indexes for which their corresponding row values are
less than or equal to 0.2 ? For this example, row 2 and 3 are the correct
ones.
Thanks

Convert a matrix's columns to list
Dear R,
Is there an efficient way to make a list that each element is from the
corresponding column of a matrix. For example, if I have a matrix "a"
> a <- matrix(1:10, 5, 2)
> a
[,1] [,2]
[1,] 1 6
[2,] 2 7
[3,] 3 8
[4,] 4 9
[5,] 5 10
I would like to have a list "b" like this
> b <- list(a[, 1], a[, 2])
> b
[[1]]
[1] 1 2 3

Spare matrix multiplication
Dear R,
I have a simple question concerning with a special case of spare matrix
multiplications. Say A is a 200-by-10000 dense matrix. B is a 10000-by-10000
block- diagonal matrix, and each diagonal block B_i is 100-by-100. The usual
way I did A%*%B will take about 30 seconds which is to time consuming
because I have to do this thousands of times. I also tried to partition A
into 100 small blocks

Removing a list of Objects
Hi,
I have a simple beginner's question on removing a list of
objects. Say I have objects C243.Daily1, C243.Daily2...C243.Daily5 in my
workspace. I'd like to remove these without using rm five times.
So I write.
> a <- list(paste("C243.Daily",sep="",1:5))
> rm(a)
Obviously this wouldn't work, as it would only remove the object a.
But is there any way

Is there a plugin that can autofill(ajax) during user input?
I haven''t done rails in a year, but can someone tell me if there is a
plugin or how much work is it to add an auto fill function like google''s
front page?
Would you just use an observer on the form or is there already a built
in class that can do this?
Thanks!

How to disable using "enter" key to exit the browser in debugging mode
Dear R,
How can I disable using "enter" key to exit the browser() in debug mode? I
would love to have this option because it is so annoying to jump out of the
debugging mode unexpectedly when I don't want to. I guess some of us have
encouraged at least one of these situations,
1, Accidentally pressed the enter key within the browser.
2, Copy and paste a piece of debugging code

network
Hello
I am a relatively new user of R and am struggling to use the 'network' package. I have a correlation matrix (produced using 'cor'), and want to draw a network where each item showing correlation above a threshold (say 0.5) is joined by a green line, and each item showing correlation below a threshold (say -0.5) is joined by a red line. Does anyone have any hints of how to

Help on smooth.spline?
Hey, R-listers
I was recommended to try using smooth.spline function

So will you please tell me where to get this R function?
Or which package provides this function?
Thanks for your point.

How to handle large numbers?
Dear R,
I have two questions:
1, Why both R and Matlab give 0*Inf==NaN? To my knowledge, it should be zero
mathematically. Am I right?
2, I need to calculate e.g. exp(a)/(exp(b)+c), where both a and b are very
large numbers (>>1000, e.g a=1000, b=1007, and c=5). R gives me NaN when I
use the following command:
> exp(1000)/(exp(1007)+5)
[1] NaN
I am pretty sure this should be close to

lapply to subsets
Dear R,
I have a silly question concerns with *apply. Say I have a list called A,
A <- list(a = array(1:20, c(2, 2, 5)), b = array(1:30, c(2, 3, 5)))
I wish to calculate the mean of A$a, and A$b w.r.t. their third dimension so
I did
lapply(A,apply,c(1,2),mean)
Now if I still wish to do the above task but take away some burn-in, e.g. do
not take A$a[,,1:2],and A$b[,,1:2] into account.
