Insert raster image into an R graphic
Dear useRs:
Is there a way to include a raster image (e.g., .gif, .jpg, .bmp) representing
a company logo, a school logo, etc. into an R graphic? For example, it would be
nice to be able to include the logo of the school into the charts that a
student produces for her dissertation. Similarly, while working on a
competitive analysis, it would be nice to be able to replace the names of the

Error using PostScriptTrace()
I couldn't run PostScriptTrace() from the package "grImport" without an
error. At first the postscript program couldn't be found. however the
problem persisted after the full path the postscript program was indicated.
I read earlier post on the subject in vain. See the codes and output below.

unicode only works with a second one
I'd like to paste a zodiac sign on a graph, but it only prints it when
I add another unicode ( \u3030) to the desired \u2648 - why?
See the examplecode (compare the orange with the skyblue):
plot(c(-1,1),c(-4,-2),type="n")
text(x=0,y=-3.0,labels="\u2648 \u3030",cex=2.3,col="skyblue")
text(x=0,y=-3.2,labels="\u2648",cex=2.3,col="orange")

curiosity question: new graphics vs. old graphics subsystem
I just read paul murrell's new book, R graphics.
now, I have always used the traditional graphics system. apparently,
the new (trellis?) system is an entirely separate graphics system.
after reading the book, I cannot figure out what the intrinsic
capability advantage of the old graphics system is that cannot be
replicated in the trellis system.
if the new system's capabilities are

grImport symbols
Dear list,
I have two questions regarding grid.symbols() in the grImport package.
This package allows you to import a vector graphic in R, and
grid.symbols() can be used to plot the resulting glyph at arbitrary
locations in a grid viewport.
I have tried the code in the grImport vignette, which is most
interesting, however I am stuck with two problems:
1- Is there a possibility to create a

insert hyperlink into svg graphic
This was actually the first thing that ChatGPT debugged for me.
The issue was that I was able to click on the link when I displayed the raw SVG in the browser (you can use that to test whether the syntax is even correct), but not when the svg displays inside a html page with the <img ...> tag.
ChatGPT correctly identified the issue and suggested a solution using <object ...> tags

grImport/ghostscript problems
Hi All:
I've been struggling for a while trying to get grImport up and running. I'm on a Windows 7 (home premium 64 bit) machine running R-2.12.2 along with GPL Ghostscript 9.01.
I've set my Windows PATH variable to point to the Ghostscript \bin and \lib directories, and I've created the R_GSCMD environment variable pointing to gswin32c.exe.
I don't have any experience with

svg plot and dashed lines
Dear users,
When I boxplot(), the lines of the whiskers are dashed. However, when I
save in an svg file, the dashed lines of the whiskers are not dashed
anymore.
How can I have the dashed lines in the svg file?
I don't have this problem with a ps file, but I cannot edit such file as
easily as an svg file. That's why I'd like to stick to the svg format.
Thanks in advance,
Ivan

Alpha values
Hi,
Does anyone know whether it is possible to construct a colour for
plotting with an alpha value as well as simply specifying rgb values?

SVG and tooltips, hyperlinks
Dear all,
is there a good way to create SVG plots with R whose elements have
titles (tooltips) or act as hyperlinks?
I am using the RSvgDevice package, which works great - but it doesn't
seem to support the notion that plot objects have titles or are act as
hyperlinks, so I am helping myself by giving the objects funny unique
colors and then postprocessing the .svg file.
I wonder

2 questions about svg output
Hi everybody :)
I use R to plot things in svg format. One of the things is text, of course.
I noticed that text() in svg() gets saved as path, which is unacceptable
for my purposes. (Interestingly, text() in cairo_pdf() gets saved as text.)
Is there a way to save text as text in svg?
And paths also is what I plot a lot. I know there is segments(), which plots
disconnected segments, and things

getGraphicsEvent() alternative for cairo graphics device?
Hi
The current status is that I am keen for people to contribute some
testing code (see https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16951)
There were also some getGraphicsEvent() changes/fixes suggested by
Richard Bodewits (cc'ed), for which I am also seeking test code.

Hi
Just taking a bit more of a look at this today (currently fixated on
making sure I can build some good regression tests).
The best thing you can do is to keep reminding me like this :)

[R] [FORGED] R cairo_pdf function does not respect plotting boundaries
Hi
(cc'ed to r-devel where further discussion should probably take place)
Thanks Lee. I see that problem.
There is a "+ 1" in the Cairo device code for setting the clipping region
(https://github.com/wch/r-source/blob/ba600867f2a94e46cf9eb75dc8b37f12b08a4561/src/library/grDevices/src/cairo/cairoFns.c#L156)
Remove the "+ 1" and the problem goes away (for your example

rasterImage and coordinate conversion
Hi, I have a plot and I would like to overlay a PNG image over it. I'm
using the rasterImage function to do this, but the problem I'm facing
is working out the coordinates of the upper right corner of the final
image in user coordinates.
That is I can place the image so the lower left is located at the
bottom of the y-axis and the left end of the x-axis. Since my image is
say 100px x
