NEW: Sociolects in R
The R translation teams have done a great job in making R usable for people who do not have English as their mother tongue. However, even within English speaking countries, there are groups which have trouble with the language, and it may be valuable to support the Sociolects of these groups too. Thanks to a generous contribution from Lars Polifo, these features will be made available in an

an error message with 't.test' with R under Unix
Hi list,Could you please help me to explain the following error messages with 't.test' in R Unix 2.1.1? I don't see it in R under Windows (R 2.3.0) or Unix (R2.3.1). Is it really due to the different R versions?Thanks,...TaoUnix session: (R.2.1.1)========================> R.version _ platform x86_64-unknown-linux-gnuarch x86_64 os

Installing texlive dependencies
Hello ALL! I am running Fedora 16 x86_64. Due to some dubious problems, that i couldn't resolve, with the TeXLive (2007, which is a default), I removed it. That removed R as well, and some other dependent packages. Then, I installed TeXLive 2011 from CTAN. However, when I wanted to install R, from Fedora's repositories, it asks for some TeX dependencies (for example, tex-preview,

[spam] t.test confidence interval
Hi, I'm using R for some undergraduate lectures, reaching the t tests. No matter what conf.level one specifies in the syntax, the output always shows the 95 percent confidence interval. Is it possible to alter the function somehow, to report the CL percent confidence interval? TIA, Adrian -- Adrian Dusa Romanian Social Data Archive Bd. Is there a simple way to use one-way ANOVA comparing the means of groups?
Dear all, I have finally managed to get a "Analysis of Variance Table": Response: LogHand Df Sum Sq Mean Sq F value Pr(>F) Prey 3 5.3125 1.7708 20.672 2.066e-11 *** Residuals 164 14.0488 0.0857 I want to compare the means of the four different groups, and see if there is a difference. Welch test for equality of variance
Hello Using R 2.2.1 on a Windows machine. Has anyone programmed the Welch test for equality of variances? I tried RSiteSearch, but this gave references to t test and oneway.test, which are not quite what I need.....I need the Welch test itself, for use in a meta-analysis (to determine if variances are equal). welch anova and post-hoc
dear r community... it loks like i won't be able to reach homogenity of variance for my dataset, so i end up with welch anova instead of regular anova. documentation on this test is rather scarce, so maybe someone here can enlighten me a bit: - do i understand that no two-way implementation of the welch anova has been developed yet? - is there a post-hoc test for welch anovas implemented in

Welch Two Sample T-Test
I know when I enter this into R: > x = c(15, 10, 13, 7, 9, 8, 21, 9, 14, 8) > y = c(15, 14, 12, 8, 14, 7, 16, 10, 15, 12) > t.test(x,y,alt="less",var.equal=TRUE) it shows: Two Sample t-test data: x and y t = -0.5331, df = 18, p-value = 0.3002 alternative hypothesis: true difference in means is less than 0 95 percent confidence interval: -Inf 2.027436 sample

Welch versus Satterthwaith (PR#2111)
This is not a bug report but didn't see another way to ask a question. For the approximate t-test assuming unequal variances, the R docs cite Welch's method for the df of the approximating distribution. I have several methods books, and they all uses Satterthwaite's method. Why does R use Welch's method where can I learn about Welch's method? Sincerely, David Allen

Shapiro-Welch W value interpretation
Hello, I have tested a distribution for normality using the Shapiro-Welch statistic. The result of this is the following: Shapiro-Wilk normality test data: mydata W = 0.9989, p-value = 0.8791 I know that the p-value > 0.05 (for my purposes) means that the data IS normally distributed but what I am not sure is with the W value, what values tell me that the data is normally

Question about package coin
Anyone know if coin can run a permutation test based on a (user-defined) statistic other than the mean difference? The function independence_test does the permutation t-test via difference in means. I'm wondering if it's possible to use independence_test to run a permutation test for some other statistic than the difference in means. For example, I'd like to run a permutation test

T-test syntax question
Hi. I'd like to do a t-test to compare the Delta values of items with Crit=1 with Delta values of items with Crit=0. What is the t.test syntax? It should produce a result like this below (I can't get in touch with the person who originally did this for me) Welch Two Sample t-test data: t1$Delta by Crit t = -3.4105, df = 8.674, p-value = 0.008173 alternative hypothesis: true
