rsync, mac OSX tiger, and UFS
Hi,
I'd like to make a "feature request" for users of rsync on Mac OSX
Tiger (10.4)
Given the current sorry state of backup tools on Mac OSX, the only
way I've found to reliably backup data from Mac OSX is to keep the data
on a UFS volume, and to then backup it up using *standard* rsync (no -E)
to a Unix file server. This way, all the the "apple double" are

Output to sequentially numbered files... also, ideas for running R on Xgrid
Hello,
I have some code to run on an XGrid cluster. Currently the code is written
as a single, large job... this is no good for trying to run in parallel. To
break it up I have basically taken out the highest level for-loop and am
planning on batch-running many jobs, each one representing an instance of
the removed loop.
However, when it comes to output I am stuck. Previously the output was

This message reports a problem, and its solution. I found the solution while

R hangs. Uninstall/reinstall seems insufficient.
Hello,
I'm running a Mac PowerBook G4 PowerPC with OSX 10.5.8
I was using R 2.12.xx with no problems.
I tried to install R 2.13. Have never had any trouble with simply
downloading the pkg and installing over previous versions.
I did that, selected the packages I use regularly, set them to
download with "Install Dependencies" checked and went off to sleep.
When I came back in the

Tiger compatibility
Hi,
Before I go any further about OSX creation dates etc. I just
discovered that the pre5 release doesn't work on OSX Tiger. I got this
message in the rsync progress:
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
Reason: Incompatible library version: rsync requires version 7.0.0
or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 5.0.0
Is there any way around this? I really need

creation date and OSX
Hi,
I've been using rsync (OSX Tiger now Leopard) to backup my home
folder daily using -a -H -A -X link-dest=dir to make incremental
backups. There was a problem though since many files especially
images, movies etc would be recopied each time instead of creating
hard links. I have been testing the pre5 release and found that it
seems to make hard links correctly for all files. I

Wine Mac OSX Questions
So I have an Intel Mac and I'd like to run a couple Windows apps on it. I looked in the Mac OSX working programs wiki, but it doesn't have any of the programs I want to use listed. I checked AppDB, but it doesn't have Mac tests for any of them listed either. I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with MS Office 2003 or 2007 or Steam on Mac OSX (Leopard) with Wine. Thanks.

Rsync 3.0.0 universal binary availible?
Hi All,
So far the tests show the universal build of rsync 3.0 (using
lipo) to be indeed universal. Metadata tests all come up clean on
OSX Tiger and Leopard, both PPC and Intel architectures. Some people
asked for the compiled binary so I put it here:

Window Scrolling on OSX
I think this has been noted in previous posts by others, but I'm
noticing it with post-version 1 builds of Darwine for OSX and I'm
wondering if there's any way to fix it.
The behavior is hard to describe but here goes: when using either
Irfanview or Forte Agent, mouse activity in the Windows app causes the
window to move downward on the desktop. Each click, the windows jumps
