write a library under 2.0.1 version
Hi there, I had written a library under R 1.9.0 and now I would like to import that library under R 2.0.1 Apparently it does not work; I can install the package, but when I try to read it the error is the following: Error in library(compvar) : 'compvar' is not a valid package -- installed < 2.0.0 I have checked other libraries in R 2.0.1 and I noticed that there is a new folders

easier way to update packages i'm developing?
I'm frightfully new at developing r packages. I'm developing an econometrics package, and each time I update my beta package, I close R, delete the package dir in the library dir, rebuild the zip file, rerun R, reinstall the package and run the functions. Is there a more efficient way? Jeff. Jeff D. Hamann Hamann, Donald & Associates, Inc. PO Box 1421 Corvallis, Oregon USA 97339-1421

Compressing data for package builds
Hi, I have two .rda files that I need to include in a package. I've placed them both in a data directory after save() the are around 150Kb each. When I try to check the package I get the following warning Warning: large data file(s) saved inefficiently: size ASCII compress zagoskin.rda 137Kb FALSE none Note: significantly better compression could be obtained

Using .onUnload() to unload compiled code
If one wants to unload compiled code for a package containing a namespace, my understanding is that .onUnload() should be used, with a call to library.dynam.unload(). This is used in e.g., the stats and methods packages, but it appears to me that the compiled code is not being unloaded when the package is detached(). Am I misunderstanding something? R CMD Rd2pdf and macros
No, I do not get the same as you. I have tested with R-devel and R-patched compiled today. When I do R CMD Rd2pdf mpra I get (as reported a few days ago) Hmm ... looks like a package Converting Rd files to LaTeX Error : mpra/man/mpra-package.Rd:6: file './DESCRIPTION' does not exist whereas you (Kurt) reports that this works on zTree. When I do R CMD Rd2pdf mpra/man I get - a

Exiting R and package detachment?
Hi, is there away to assure that a package is detached when R quits? I know about .Last(), but that requires the user to setup that function. What I am looking for is a way for the package to do this itself, without asking the user to edit "their" .Last(). From ?setHook I know that: "...when an R is finished, packages are not detached and namespaces are not unloaded, so

what is the preferred method to create a package local variable?
for the moment, I'm using: .onAttach <- function(libname, pkgname) { .bbg.db.conn <<- dbConnect(dbDriver("PostgreSQL"), user="blah","blah") } .onUnload <- function(libpath) { dbDisconnect(.bbg.db.conn) } which results in a hidden global variable in the global environment. I would prefer to make the assignment only in the package namespace.

Specifying search position for attached package
When I load an add-on package, is there any way to specify where it ends up in the search path (as with the pos argument to attach())? From the documentation for library(), this doesn't seem like an option. (I know I can detach packages and then reload them in the order I want; I'm looking for a less clumsy way.) Finding out where a variable is defined
I''m looking at code in a project. I have no clue what is being passed into the resource parameter: def read_authorized?(resource) if resource.respond_to? :user_read_authorized? resource.user_read_authorized? current_user else true end end Is there any kind of debugging feature I can run to see what gets passed into resource in this specific

building an R package : where and how should my fortran library be loaded ?
Hi , I'm currently trying to make available a few fortran subroutines and R functions (which make interface to these subroutines), as an R package. I'm doing it under linux with R 1.9.0 (but hope to do it for windows too). I have trouble for loading my fortran code. Here are the steps involved : 1) In R: # Create tree for package

00LOCK and nfs
I am running into a problem with the 00LOCK file and .nfs files. It seemed to be caused by the following R is installed on NFS user A has loaded pkg_A containing a dynamically loaded library user B (the administrator) runs install.packages("pkg_A") as the final part of the installation process the 00LOCK directory is removed this creates a .nfs file because user A has the

R-1.4.0 delay()
R-1.4.0 seems to have changed the way delay() works, or perhaps it is the way library() works that nullifies the advantages of using delay() in a package. It seems that the process of loading a package evaluates each object provided by that package, and so in particular, the delay()ed object is evaluated and brought into memory. For example generating a test example, where test/R/functions.s is:

Dir.create_junction with FFI
Hi, Try as I might, I just cannot get Dir.create_junction to work with FFI in the ffi branch of the win32-dir project. The problem is the REPARSE_JDATA_BUFFER struct. I''m just not sure how to set those members, specifically, the PathBuffer member. The target looks good, it''s UTF-16LE encoded, but I can''t make it work, despite trying several ways of defining the struct,

recover masked functions?
Hi, I have loaded the packages car, memisc, Hmisc and all of these implement the function recode. The order in which the packages are loaded depends on the order I execute my scripts and thus is not always the same and the syntax of the recode function changes with the package. Is there any way to call specificly the memisc recode function? Or maybe it's better to detach all packages first

segfault when unloading a shared library
Hi All, I'm still actively researching this problem (reading R-ext manual), but I hoped that I might be able to get some additional insight from the list given that I'm fairly new at writing R extension code. Problem: I have some fairly simple code (.Call interface) that makes a call to another shared library, which, in turn, calls routines in an HDF5 shared library. The good news

Strange problem with CSV and funny chars
I am using CSV in a rake task (db:seed) on Rails 3.0.3, Ruby 1.9.2 to read a file with some funny chars in it. Upon breaking in at a point where the row read using CSV is in variable row, with the string with the char in row[''price''] I get the following strange results which I cannot understand. (rdb:1) row[''price''] "\xA32.00" (rdb:1)

Rcmd check does not recognize formal generic function as code object
Dear all, I am trying to write a package using formal methods and classes from the methods package. I have not been able to get the package to pass rcmd check without warnings, because rcmd check does not recognize my generic functions as code objects and therefore queries why they have documentation entries. I have isolated the problem in a very small trivial example which I give below. I

Can not create model instance via params on specific model but can on others....
Anyone have an idea on this? Got a weird situation where on a specific model I can not create an instance using params, yet it works fine on other models. The model which does not work is a stock model, there is no logic in it. Ruby 1.8.7/Rails 3.0.5. Does not work: (rdb:1) PaymentTransaction.create(:purchase_id => 3) #<PaymentTransaction id: 2, purchase_id: nil, action: nil, amount: nil,
