PDF version of Chinese translations of the manual "An Introduction to R"
Dear All,
I distributed the HTML style one year ago (
http://www.biosino.org/pages/newhtm/r/schtml and
http://www.biosino.org/pages/newhtm/r/tchtml). Now I polished it, and
rewrote it with Latex. You can download it from the URL:
http://www.biosino.org/R/R-doc/ (
http://www.biosino.org/R/R-doc/files/R-intro_cn.pdf).
Wish it will be useful for Chinese R users.

How to convert the "user coordinate system" in R graph to "normal coordinate system" whose origin is the upper-left cornner of the drawing area?
Dear friends,
The user coordiante system in the R graphics is easy to understand as
it simply corresponds to the range of values on the axes of the plot.
However, sometimes, we want to kown the coordinates of a region in other
system, e.g., the normal coordinate system whose origin is the the
upper-left cornner of the drawing area which is used to set the hot regions
in the HTML image maps.

Chinese language R email list?
A colleague from China is visiting our lab is working with us on some
R-based remote sensing projects, and he was curious if there is a r-help
listserv in Chinese and, if not, if it would be possible to set one up?
I didn't see one listed on the Mailing List page on the cran-r website.
Thanks!

I am not familar with R. I want to use PCA (principal components
analysis) and MDS (multidimensional scaling). Can someone tell me
which R package I should use for PCA and MDS? I appreciate your help

convergence for proportional odds model
Hey, everyone,
I am using proportional odds model for ordinal responses in dose-response experiments. For some samll data, SAS can successfully provide estimators of the parameters, but the built-in function polr() in R fails. Would you like to tell me how to make some change so I can use polr() to obtain the estimators? Or anyone can give me a hint about the conditions for the existance of MLE

Recommended search library?
I''m at a point where I''d like to start adding search capability to my
app, so I thought I''d ask:
Anyone have any recommendations for a good Rails search
library/plugin/etc? There seem to be quite a few different ones out
there, but I don''t have much context on any of them.
What is the difference between using Ferret, or a SearchGenerator,
SimpleSearch,

Load the shared object/DLL
Dear All,
I have written a function in c (in a file named 'a.c') as follows,
void convolve(double *a, int *na, double *b, int *nb, double *ab)
{
int i, j, nab = *na + *nb - 1;
for(i = 0; i < nab; i++)
ab[i] = 0.0;
for(i = 0; i < *na; i++)
for(j = 0; j < *nb; j++)
ab[i + j] += a[i] * b[j];
}
Then, I created a shared file in the Windows,
R CMD SHLIB -d -o

Chi Square Test on two groups of variables
Dear R help
I have been trying to conduct a chi square test on two groups of variables
to test whether there is any relationship between the two sets of variables
chisq.test(oxygen, train)
Pearson's Chi-squared test
data: oxygen
X-squared = 26.6576, df = 128, p-value = 1
> chisq.test(oxygen)
Pearson's Chi-squared test
data: oxygen

y <- append(y,0)
hist(y) # plots as expected
In most cases of the data I have variances in the data so

the C function drawing a rectangle: heatmap() -> image() -> do_image() -> GRect() -> GERect() -> rect() -> do_rect() -> GRect() ??
Hello anyone used to do similar things: search for the final C function that corresponding to the drawing of a rectangle?
As listed in the subject, I started from heatmap() in R and after several steps reached the GRect() in C. However, then it refers to rect() which further seems to refer to do_rect(), and then, surpringly, do_rect refers to GRect()!!! A dependency circle! How can it work if no

how to get "lsmeans"?
Dear all,
I search the mail list about this topic and learn that no simple way is available to get "lsmeans" in R as in SAS.
Dr.John Fox and Dr.Frank E Harrell have given very useful information about "lsmeans" topic.
Dr. Frank E Harrell suggests not to think about lsmeans, just to think about what predicted values wanted
and to use the predict

p value for coefficients in multinomial model
Dear all,
1)how can I easily get p value for the coefficients of factors in a multinomial model?
2)why the p values for "type III" test with Anova are not identical to that from SAS?
for example:
A,B and C are categorical variables,but the proportions of each level in each categorical variables are not balance. Y is a nominal variables(>=3 categories);
