Correlation ratio
Hi,
I wanted to know how to compute the correlation ratio (eta) between two
variables using R. Is there any function to compute the correlation ratio.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Suman

Conversion - lowercase to Uppercase letters
I would like to know how to convert a string with characters to all
uppercase or all lowercase? If anyone could let me know if there exists a
function in R for the conversion, that will be very helpful.

Unix commands on R
I am using R on unix. While in R how do I execute the unix shell commands?
Is there a way to do it? I am executing a function in R and the matrix
resulting from the function has to be passed on as an input to unix command.
Any directions will be helpful.
Thanks,
Suman

lsmeans in R
I need help with calculating lsmeans (adjusted means) of different terms in
a linear model including the main effect and the interaction effect terms. I
use lm to run the linear models...I previously noted from literature that
that "effects" package can be used to generate lsmeans. But I tried to use
it but could not figure out which option to use to get means. If anyone can

Creating different matrices in a loop
Hello,
I have a big matrix of size (20,5) -bmat . I have to loop though the rows in
the matrix and create DIFFERENT matrices each time I go through the loop.
counts=c(4,6,10);
p=1;
for (i in 1:length(counts))
{
smat=bmat[p:p+i-1,];
p=p+i;
}
The problem is smat overwrites itself each time inside the loop. I would
like to have smat1, smat2, smat3 instead of a single vector smat.

Timer
Hello,
This might be a very basic question but I was not sure how to go about it. I
just wanted to calcluate the time it takes to run my program. Basically I
was to put a timer at the start and the end of the program in order to see
how much time it takes to give the output (similar to tic-tac in MATLAB) .
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Suman

Subplot.
Hello All,
I wanted to do many plots (in my case, wanted to get 6 histograms) on the
same figure. Is there a method in R that analogous to 'subplot' in MATLAB?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Histogram using frequency data
Hello,
I wanted to know how to plot a histogram using a vector of frequencies
rather than the data vector as a whole. So I have two vectors: a vector of
labels V1= c("A","B","C","D") and vector B which is a vector of frequencies
of A, B, C and D respectively V2=c(20,50,60,30). I wanted to plot a
histogram of the labels using the frequencies. I could not

Is there any Command showing correlation of all variables in a dataset?
Thanks in advance.
I want to derive correlations of variables in a dataset
Specifically
library(Ecdat)
data(Housing)
attach(Housing)
cor(lotsize, bathrooms)
this code results only the correlationship between two variables.
But I want to examine all the combinations of variables in this dataset.
And I will finally make a table in Latex.
How can I test correlations for all combinations of

Top N correlations from 'cor' for very large datasets being run many times
I am doing an analysis that requires me to calculate correlations for a matrix of 15,000 rows x 50 columns. For each row I want to calculate the correlation to all other rows and then for each row, find the n (say 10) most correlated rows. If read in the 15,000 x 50 data from file and pass it to 'cor', this function quite appropriately (and very quickly) calculates all possible row by

Pairwise n for large correlation tables?
Hello,
I'm using a very large data set (n > 100,000 for 7 columns), for which I'm
pretty happy dealing with pairwise-deleted correlations to populate my
correlation table. E.g.,
a <- cor(cbind(col1, col2, col3),use="pairwise.complete.obs")
...however, I am interested in the number of cases used to compute each
cell of the correlation table. I am unable to find such a

Correlation between 2 matrices but with subset of variables
Dear All,
I have two matrices A (40 x 732) and B (40 x 1230) and would like to calculate correlation between them. I can use: cor(A,B, method="pearson") to calculate correlation between all possible pairs. But the issue is that there is one-many specific mappings between A and B and I just need to calculate correlations for those pairs (not all). Some variables in A (proteins, say p1)

pairwise correlations for large dataset
Hello,
I need to calculate the correlation for all pairwise combinations in a very large matrix. I have 25,000 elements and need to calculate the pairwise correlation with a different set of 5,000 elements.
I have written code that works, but it is extremely slow. At the current rate, it will take a few weeks to finish running. I'm looking for suggestions on performing the calculations

Within-group correlation confidence intervals
I'm trying to obtain within-group correlations on a subset of variables. I
first selected my variables using the following command:
mydata$x<-mydata[c("iq","education","achievement")]
I'd like to look at correlations among those variables separately for men
and women. My gender variable in mydata is coded 1 (women) and 0 (men).

simulate data based on partial correlation matrix
Given four known and fixed vectors, x1,x2,x3,x4, I am trying to
generate a fifth vector,z, with specified known and fixed partial
correlations.
How can I do this?
In the past I have used the following (thanks to Greg Snow) to
generate a fifth vector based on zero order correlations---however I'd
like to modify it so that it can generate a fifth vector with specific

Correlation Matrix in R
Hi,
I am currently working with a data set which contains a list of julian dates
of phenological (flowering, leaf growth etc.)
I obtained a correlation matrix by simply using the cor function with the
dataset cor(dataset,use="complete.obs")
that gives me a correlation matrix but the correlations are somehow
different from when I run individual correlations using the cor function and

correlation
Dear All,
I have a file (a matrix) on which I have to compute the correlations.
The function "cov" compute the correlations
between the columns of a matrix, but I want to compute the correlations
between the raws.
Can somebody say to me how I can carry out that?
Thanks

Help creating a correlation matrix
Hello all. I have 14 variables, named D2_1,
D2_2,...,D2_14 (inherited from a data set). I would
like to create a matrix of correlations, although I
would be content in just learning how to create a
proper do loop. I tried something like this:
(for i in 1:14){cor(D2_[i],D2_[i], use =
"complete.obs")}
This is wrong, of course, but I don't know how to
"tell" R to run
