Importing Large Dataset into Excel
Hello all,
I seem to be having a problem importing a data set from Excel into R. I'm using
the "read.table" command to import the data with the following line of code:
> newborn<-read.table("newborn edit.csv", header=T, sep=",")
where "newborn edit.csv" is the name of the file. Unfortunately, I'm getting
back the following error message:

2 Sample Confidence Interval - Formatting Data?
Hello all,
I have to run a 2 Sample Confidence Interval on some data; the command for such
intervals is "confint(...)", but in the help documentation it says that you
need a "fitted model object" in order to run this command. What does that
mean?
The data is very small, it's:
x=c(8,12,10,14,2,0,0)
y=c(-6,0,1,2,-3,-4,2)
and I want to be able to run a Confidence

Line Graph - Greater than 2 variables on plot
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to construct a multiple line graph on R,
where there are 2 (or more) sets of data points plotted against some x axis of
data, and you can draw a line on the graph connecting each set of data points.
For example:
A B C D
0.6566 2.1185 1.2320 5
0.647 2.0865 1.2325 10
0.6532

sunflower plot, making vectors?
I'm having a bit of trouble finding and understanding the correct function to
make numeric vectors to feed the sunflowerplot function. I have 33k points
to show and I want to do better than the standard scatter plot.
I gather that I need two vectors (x and y) of the same count containing the
"center" value of each bin.
FYI - I have two pieces of data:
1 - x axis - time in days of

number plot symbol in scatterplot?
If I make a scatterplot and several (e.g. 5) points lie on top of each other
at a given x,y location I would like the plot symbol to be the number of
superimposed points (e.g. "5"). Could someone please tell me how to do this
in R? Thanks!

Identifying points in a plot that have duplicate values
I have code like this: -
#-----------------------------------------------------------------------

x=scan()
0 0 0 0 0 1 2 3 4
y=scan()
1 1 1 2 2 1 3 4 5

Colours for sunflowerplot
Dear fellow R users,
I would like to draw a "sunflowerplot" because I have data (decade by
month) that plots multiple times on the same x-y co-ordinates. Further I
would like to colour each of the points/sunflower leaves on the plot
according to the group they belong to (i.e. which type of event each
represents within that decade and month). I thought that this would be
relatively

Clean up a scatterplot with too much data
I'm working with a lot of data right now, but I'm new to R, and not very good
with it, hence my request for help. What type of graph could I use to
straighten out things like...

I want to see general frequencies. Should I use something like a 3D
histogram, or is there an easier way like, say, shading? I'm sure these

Condensed PCA Results
Hello all,
I'm currently using R to do PCA Analysis, and was wondering if anyone knew the
specific R Code that could limit the output of the PCA Analysis so that you
only get the Principal Component features as your output and none of the
extraneous words or numbers that you don't want.
If that was unclear, let me use linear regression as an example:
"lm(y~x)" is the normal

categorical variable in scatterplot (car)
Hello R folks,
I am encountering a problem with the following scatterplot function from the
car package:
> scatterplot(y~x|z)
where y and x are continuous (interval) random variables and z is a
categorical variable. When z is a categorical variable coded 1 or 2, I
(appropriately) get a scatterplot of y by x, coded by z. Similarly, when z
is a categorical variable coded 1, 2, or 3, there is

Question about scatterplot in package car
I am getting an error message from scatterplot:

Q - scatterplot, plot function & trellis linear regressions???
Hi R-listers,
Q1) What is the difference between the scatterplot and plot function?
Q2) I am able to make a graph with the scatterplot function:
scatterplot(DevelopIndex ~ Veg,
+ data = Turtle,
+ xlab = "Vegetation border (m)",
+ ylab = "Embryonic development index")
And have been successful. But I do not know if the lines are for:

smooth scatterplot and geo map
Hello everybody,
I'm trying to understand how to draw a smoothed scatterplot on a geographic
map with R.
Have a dataframe with point locations (long, lat) and was able to simply
plot these points on a shp map by using the maptools package. However,
instead of having simply the raw points on the map, I would like to have a
"smoothed" scatterplot of the same superimposed on the map.

Grid graphics issues
Hi all --
So I'm trying to use lattice graphics, but I want to use a
sunflower plot, which doesn't seem to be part of lattice. No problem,
I put together the following code, which mostly works -- *except* for
the first graph it generates. If it opens the graphic device, then it
draws the xygrid, clears the device, then draws the sunflowerplot.
All subsequent output operations work

Plotting extra lines on scatterplot
Hello Everyone-
I'm in the process of slowly learning R and am having a little bit of
trouble plotting an extra line onto a scatterplot. I'm sure the answer
is quite simple but I am stumped.
The code I am using is:
headways <- read.table("headways.csv", header=TRUE, sep=",",
na.strings="", dec=".", strip.white=TRUE)
plot.new()

combination of scatterplot and image graph
Dear R users,
I'm interested in a combination of a scatterplot and an image graph.
I have two large vectors. Because in the scatterplot some areas are
sparsely and others densely populated, I want to see the points, and
I also want their color to be changed based on their density (similar
to a heat map). Is there a function that can do that?
Thank you,
b.

using eval to handle column names in function calling scatterplot graph function
I am running R version 2.15.1 in Windows XP
I am having problems with a function I'm trying to create to:
1. subset a data.frame based on function arguments (colname & parmname)
2. rename the PARMVALUE column in the data.frame based on function
argument (xvar)
3. generate charts

scatterplot with filled circles
for a simple scatterplot:
plot(X ~ Y, type = 'p', col = 'red')
this produces red-edged circles, but I want to fill in the circles.
can this be done? I checked '? plot' already but couldn't find what I was
looking for.
cheers
