00LOCK error on site-library
I am experiencing an OOLOCK error when attempting to update packages to
my site-library. I have an identical setup on my local Linux machine,
but this problem on the remote Linux machine (PPC cluster) started about
3 weeks ago and is present whether I used R-devel or R-2.6.0 or R-2.5.1.
Also, of course I manually remove the 00LOCK folder after each failed
attempt.
Below is my error output,

calling MPI parallel C code from R
R developers:
I have some parallel C code, written with the MPI library, that I would
like to call from R, but I get the error message below.
cocite.mat.true.parallel.so compiles without complaint and I have MPI in
my path, but R isn't recognizing one of the MPI symbols.
I have a feeling that this is going to be tricky, but I need to get this
to work. Helpful suggestions? I'd be

R package Matrix failing to build with R-devel on Ubuntu AMD64
Switched back to R-devel tonight after using R-2.6.1 for awhile and when
I updated my devel packages Matrix installation failed. Not critical for
me but thought I should report it. I am using Ubuntu Gusty AMD64 OS.

Problem compiling R 3.6.1 on POWER 570 system
I've for a RHEL 4 box on a P570 system. My end user wants to have a
64-bit version of R compiled due to the large amount of memory they
require (this image has 16GB allocated to it).
I can compile R fine in 32-bit mode, but it can't use more than 2.4GB of
RAM before it falls over and dies.
Compiling in 64-bit mode for POWER systems "should" be as easy as adding

[BioC] RCurl loading problem with 64 bit linux distribution
Martin,
Well, thanks for jumping in! We need all the help we can get ;)
I changed the execute bit as you suggested and recompiled, no luck, still
the same error message.
Below is the output you wanted me to look at, its a bit beyond me so I
include both a brief grep summary and then the whole enchilada. I do note
that my output is different from yours, but I'm not sure how to interpret.

00LOCK error with site-library
I have identical R.profiles and R_HOME directories set up on both my
local machine and a remote linux cluster. To keep my libraries and R
install separate, I use a site-library on both machines.
The first line of my .Rprofile is:
'.libPaths(new= "~/R_HOME/site-library") #tell R where site-library is'
Until R-2.6.0 this was working fine on both machines, but since I have

problem building R packages on RHEL 4 Linux with Intel compilers
I would like to build R and packages with the Intel 10.1 compilers in RHEL4.
Using the flags below, I can successfully build R using a vanilla
./configure, but when I install new packages they build with gcc. My
sysadmin suggested adding the flags to ./configure as illustrated below, but
then the R build blows up with the config tail output that follows far
below. It looks like gcc is still being

RGBL not compiling with R-devel under Debian Lenny
Some time ago I had difficulty installing RBGL with Ubuntu Hardy on R-2.7.0
and the problem was attributed to an with BGL. I got some very helpful
advice and posted a script to fix the problem by hacking the RGBL source
code:

benchmarking R installations
Recently I posted to this list with a question about using the Intel 10.1
compilers in building R and one response was basically, "why in the heck
would you want to do that?" The answer is that my sysadmin believes that
there will be a performance boost with the Intel vs. Gnu compilers on our
Linux cluster, of which I am one of many users. Wanting to be a good citizen

Vertical subtraction in dataframes
Hello all,
I have not been able to find an answer to this problem. I feel like it might
be so simple though that it might not get a response.
Suppose I have a dataframe like the one I have copied below (minus the
'calib' column). I wish to create a column like calib where I am subtracting
the 'Count' when 'stain' is 'none' from all other 'Count' data for

problems sourcing in vs interactive
If I source in the function (see below) calib(), I get:

Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : Object "energy" not found
But if I cut and paste the code for calib() one line at a time into the R
window it works fine.

Hello,
I'm running my rsynce server on Win2k3 Server. One client under Linux and
another on Win2k3 Server. The problem is not really OS related though.
My Server 2k3 client command is:

--link-dest=/cygdrive/d/previous/c/backup.1 --files-from=files-from.txt

Parallel computing with rgenoud and snow: external file I/O possible?
I am trying to use rgenoud and snow with an external model and file I/O.
Unlike the typical application of rgenoud and snow, I need to run an
external executable and do pre- and post-processing of input and output
files for each parameter set generated by genoud(). I'm hoping that
someone can suggest improvements to my approach and a work-around for
file I/O problems I've encountered when

-Need help with function
Hello everyone,
I have a function here that I wrote but doesn't seem to work quite
right. Attached is the code. In the calib funcion under the for loop
Bt[i+2]<-(1-m)*Bt[i+1]+Rt[i]*Rerr-Ct[i+1] returns NA's for everything
after years 1983 and 1984. However the code works when it reads
Bt[i+2]<-(1-m)*Bt[i+1]+Rt[i]*Rerr-Ct[i]. I don't quite understand why
since it should be
