problems with package 'segmented'
Dear R-users,
I am trying to understand how the 'segmented'-package works to determine
breakpoints and slopes of regression lines in broken-line regression models.
However, I am not able to repeat the example on the "plant"-dataset,
which was reported in the accompanying paper of the package. (V.M.R

Error with psi value for 'segmented' package for R
Hi everyone,
while trying to use 'segmented' (R i386 2.15.0 for Windows 32bit OS) to determine the breakpoint I got stuck with an error message and I can't find solution. It is connected with psi value, and the error says:
Error in seg.glm.fit(y, XREG, Z, PSI, weights, offs, opz) :
(Some) estimated psi out of its range
This is the code I am using:

NA's in segmented
I am trying to fit a very simple broken stick model using the package
"segmented" but I have hit a roadblock.

'data.frame': 18 obs. of 2 variables:
$ Bin : num 0.25 0.75 1.25 1.75 2.25 2.75 3.25 3.75 4.25 4.75 ...
$ LnFREQ: num 5.06 4.23 3.50 3.47 2.83 ...
I fit the lm easily:
> fit.lm<-lm(LnFREQ~Bin, data=id07)
But I keep getting an error

Peak Over Threshold values
Dear List
I hope you can help me: I?ve got a dataframe (df) within which I am looking
for Peak Over Threshold values as well as the length of the events. An event
starts when walevel equals 5.8 and it should end when walevel equals the
lower threshold value (5.35).
I tried ?clusters (?)? from ?evd package?, and varied r (see example) but it
did not work for all events (again

Chainboot to XP Embedded
Hi Folks,
I've been playing around with SYSLINUX for a little bit; here's what I'm
trying to do...
My disk will have three partitions:
[BOOT: (FAT16 w/ SYSLINUX)] [OS1] [OS2]
OS1 and OS2 will both contain an XP Embedded system which is read-only and
which will always boot from a hibernate file. What I'd like to be able to do
if flip-flop between them at runtime (that is, run

Question on broken-line regression: 'segmented' or alternative
Dear R-Users,
I have a question concerning the determination of breakpoints and
comparison of slopes from broken-line regression models. Although this
is rather a standard problem in data analysis, all information I
gathered so far, did not answer my questions.
I added a subsetted example of my data. Basically it is a timeseries of
recorded phenotypes in three different groups of plants.

de-crypting Ruby password with php.
Hello all, I have a client with an older Rails 1.8 app (was recently
upgraded from 1.6) and I need to integrate a php site to use the same
user login creds.
I''m not very versed with Ruby but I think this is the code that
encrypts the password.
[code]
# Encrypts some data with the salt.

How to vectorize a function to handle two vectors
Dear R-users
I am trying to "vectorize" a function so that it can handle two vectors of
inputs. I want the function to use phi (a function), k[1] and t[1] for the
first price, and so on for the second, third and fourth price. I tried to do
the mapply, but I dont know how to specify to R what input I want to be
vectors (k and t)(see in the bottom what I tried). I have read the help

Moving zfs to an iscsci equallogic LUN
We have a Mirror setup in ZFS that''s 73GB (two internal disks on a sun fire v440). We currently are going to attach this system to an Equallogic Box, and will attach an ISCSCI LUN from the Equallogic box to the v440 of about 200gb. The Equallogic Box is configured as a Hardware Raid 50 (two hot spares for redundancy).
My question is what''s the best approach to moving the ZFS

Return a list from a .Call but segfaults
Hello,
I call a function via .Call passing to it a raw vector(D) and an
integer(I)
The vector is a series K1,KData1, V1,VData1, K2, KData2, ...
where the integer K1 is the length of Data1 and similarly for Ki (wrt
Datai)(similarly for V*) There 2*I such pairs( (Ki,KDatai), (Vi,VDatai))
The numbers Ki(and Vi) are written in network order.
I am returning a list of I elements each element a

copied each time when this command is run. In all other folders only
new or modified files are copied. The files and the folder itself have

Deprecated Realtime application, what's to be gained ???
Hi,
After seeing in "pbx/ael/ael-test/ael-test5/extensions.ael" some
interesting use case of RealTime
to store extension data (forwardto, dnd, ...) i started to play with it.
To my surprise the two applications RealTime() / RealtimeUpdate() have
been deprecated in favor
of the REALTIME() function. While it's not a big deal for the write part
since it's only a matter a

ZFS Storage Pool advice
This question is concerning ZFS. We have a Sun Fire V890 attached to a EMC disk array. Here''s are plan to incorporate ZFS:
On our EMC storage array we will create 3 LUNS. Now how would ZFS be used for the best performance?
What I''m trying to ask is if you have 3 LUNS and you want to create a ZFS storage pool, would it be better to have a storage pool per LUN or combine the 3

Local root vulnerability in udev
I just saw this thread in the OLM forum. Possibly of interest, since
they say it includes CentOS 5, if the update hasn't been released yet.
Always good to keep boxes updated, for security and stability
reasons.

The ZFS Read / Write roundabout
Hey all -
Was playing a little with zfs today and noticed that when I was
untarring a 2.5gb archive both from and onto the same spindle in my
laptop, I noticed that the bytes red and written over time was seesawing
between approximately 23MB/s and 0MB/s.
It seemed like we read and read and read till we were all full up, then
wrote until we were empty, and so the cycle went.
Now: as it happens,

Using apply() with a function involving ode()
Hello,
I am trying to get the output from the numerical simulation of a system
of ordinary differential equations for a range of values for three
parameters. I am using the ode() function (deSolve package) to run the
numerical simulation and apply() to run the simulation function for each
set of parameter values. I am having trouble getting the apply()
function to work.
Here is an
