R maps, mapdata and mapproj for Windows
Nearly a month ago I announced the availability of a Windows port of
the maps for S package but for various reasons the Windows binaries
did not appear on CRAN until yesterday. Now I am pleased to announce
that the three packages maps_2.0-8 (the base maps package with
low-resolution databases), mapdata_2.0-6 (high-resolution and other
databases) and mapproj_1.1 (projection add-on for maps,

"Rotated Lat-Lon" projection in mapproj
Hi,
I'm trying to plot a field obtained from the atmospheric model WRF-NMM
which uses a "Rotated Lat-Lon? map projection.
The WRF documentation mentions that:
? Rotates the earth's lat/lon grid such that the intersection of the
equator and prime meridian is at the center of the model domain.
? Within the rotated framework the grid spacing is constant, but in an

boxplot subsets
Hello,
I am a new user to R and have a(proabably very basic) question relating to
a boxplot with eleven sites in a river system where i measured Chlorophyll a
concentrations.
The eleven sites are made up of three sites above a point source pollution
site; three sites below this pollution source and five sites in a different
unaffected river.
The following code is for a simple plot of the data

VB IsDate/IsNumber: Localisation does not work
Hi everybody,
I started testing a (really large self written) VB appllication under Wine and was surprised, that a lot works out of the box (nearly...) - Great Work!
But I have a few errors I need some advice on: In the application are lot of tests if entered data are numbers or dates.
These test do not work, It looks like the locale (number and date)formats are not used in this functions. My

No Localisation for rsync?
Hi Folks,
There are no Localisation features incorporated in the rsync code, from what
I can see, and hence no Language Translation files.
I see pertinent strings, in the "main.c" (output_summary function) and
"flist.c" files, which are used by the rprintf function.
I could use xgettext with "rprintf" as the function search parameter to
produce a .pot file.

mapping of colornames into hsv: half way done
Ok,
now we have the mapping of color names to color codes (see below) and
conversion to rgb (something like Ben Bolker's function), but how to convert
rgb to hsv?
Thanks to Brian Ripley, Peter Dalgaard and Ben Bolker
Details below
Regards
Jens
etc/colors.big maps 455 names to rgb in S syntax
etc/rgb.txt maps 657 names to rgb in C syntax, but unlike colors() it has

C coding tips please / Localisation
Hi Folks,
Well, it has only been more than 6 weeks and still no response to my "No
localisation for rsync?" topic. :(
So far, I have determined that there are at least 4 files that need
translations for rsync. They are the following.
main.c
flist.c
log.c
progress.c
For my initial test I only made the following modifications.
main.c

I added the following line ...

Smart localisation
Hi,
I have some trouble using Il8n. I''ve had these problems for a while
now and always used rough workarounds, but as my productivity needs to
go up another notch, I was wondering whether there was any way of
avoiding these workarounds.
For example: When I''m inside a view (say ''home/index'') and use
t(''title''), I''d like Rails to know

conflict when passing an argument to a function within an other function
Dear all,
I have a problem with this piece of code which I don't really see how to
overcome and I think it might also be of more general interest:
map(xlim=c(-10,40),ylim=c(30,60)
,mar=rep(0,4)+.1
,fill=T
,col="darkseagreen"
,bg="skyblue"
)
The idea is to use the map function from the maps package to draw a map of
Europe. By default with the argument fill=T there is

variable of mathematics string not interpreted
Hi everybody,
my goal is to display symbols on the x-axis of a barplot.
I read some mathematics strings in a file and convert them to an expression
as follows:
tt<- scan(file = fstr ,'what' ='character', sep = "");
for (iaa in 1:length(tt)) {
tt[iaa]<-do.call(expression, lapply(tt[iaa], as.name));
}
I obtained the following result:

predicting from segmented regression
Hello
I'm having trouble figuring out how to use the output of "segmented()"
with a new set of predictor values.
Using the example of the help file:

yy<-2+1.5*pmax(xx-35,0)-1.5*pmax(xx-70,0)+15*pmax(zz-.5,0)+rnorm(100,0,2)
dati<-data.frame(x=xx,y=yy,z=zz)
