Compiling only some C files
Dear R-users,
I am currently writing an R package that contains three C++ files in the
src/ source directory
When i issue a R CMD check pkge_name, all the *.cpp files in the src/
directory will be compiled through something like (seen in 00install.out
file):
* Installing *source* package 'pkge_name' ...
** libs
g++ -I/usr/lib/R/include -I/usr/lib/R/include -I/usr/local/include

Strange R behavior for product of two sum of integers
Dear gentlemen,
Can you explain me why the following happens (any OS I think, and even
on 64 bits)?
> sum(1000:1205)^2
[1] 51581223225
> sum(1000:1205)*sum(1000:1205)
[1] NA
Warning message:
In sum(1000:1205) * sum(1000:1205) : NAs produced by integer overflow
Best,
Pierre

Understand Ncells and Vcells, from gc()
Dear all,
I am working on a 64 bits Linux system.
I issue the following R commands:

microsoft proxy & R project
hi,
as I'm using R at Dell (where I am working), I manage to install packages
from web, but there is a web proxy, which is pretty boring.
R asks me to enter an active directory login/password, that would
normally auth me through the web proxy, but it doesn't work.
I'm looking forward for your help. Sorry if I used bad english.
Any ideas ?

Question about Rweb
Greetings,
I am working on creating an interactive website that will generate R-code for users based in the information they input on the site. Currently, the R-code can be generated and downloaded to be run locally on a computer with R. However, I have noticed a number of applications out there that instead submit the code directly to an R-web server. Some examples seem to be:

error using lapply with oneway_test (coin package)
Dear expeRts,
I would like to use a oneway_test (from package coin) to test whether
two groups differ on various variables. The variables are encoded
within a data frame. Unfortunately, I obtained an error, that I don't
understand. Could you please help me ?
Example:
library(coin)
y <- as.data.frame(matrix(rnorm(200), ncol=2))
group <- as.factor(unif(100))
lapply(y,

lattice.wireframe missing wireframe
Hello Everyone,
I am using R ver. 2.10.1 (2009-12-14). I installed lattice today via install.packages.
I am doing this minimal example:
M = read.csv("/path/to/csv")
cloud(x ~ y * z, data = M)
this correctly gives me a scatterplot of the csv data which has 3 columns. Every column contains 1800 numeric 0 < values < 1300
when I want to plot the corresponding wireframe via

lattice: wireframe "eats up" points; how to make points on wireframe visible?
Dear expeRts,
I would like to add two points to a wireframe plot. The points have (x,y,z) coordinates
where z is determined to be on the wireframe [same z-value]. Now something strange
happens. One point is perfectly plotted, the other isn't shown at all. It only
appears if I move it upwards in z-direction by adding a positive number. So somehow
it disappears in the wireframe-surface

wireframe color change from default
Hello, hopefully simple question, but I cannot find the answer. I need to
change the color from the standard default. Still want the scaled colors,
but need different colors for different graphs.
Code is:
wireframe(z ~ y*x, mat.df,
drape = TRUE,
zlab = list("Water mass error (%)",rot=92), zlim=c(-50,180),
xlab = list("Resistance error

persp or wireframe 3D plot: how can I independently adjust linewidth of the 'surface' and framebox?
It is a trivial matter to adjust the linewidth of the axes and plot
line in a 2D plot:
x <- 1:10;
y <- 1:10;
par(lwd=2); # axis (and others) linewidth
plot(x,y,"l",lwd=6); # plot linewidth
Is there anything comparable to this for persp or wireframe? I've
tried a number of ways, and the framebox/axes seem to be linked to
the linewidth used in generating the

Wireframe axis labels
Hi,
I'm trying to do a surface plot using the wireframe function.
Everything is working beautifully except that I want to be able to
re-scale it a LOT so that I can fit ~145 labels on the x-axis or y-axis.
I've tried using zoom, scales, aspect, .. nothing seems to work. The
help on wireframe in R says that you can input a list of labels for any
of the axes, but this has also failed.

Lattice wireframe: How to avoid drawing lines around polygons when using shade=TRUE
I am using wireframe from the lattice package, with the shade option set
to TRUE. When I output to PDF or Postscript, a line gets drawn around
each polygon of my surface which causes ugly Moir? effects and doesn't
make sense in my application (think the plot of Maunga Whau--gridlines
don't make sense). This does not happen when I display on the screen--
then I just get the surface as

lattice wireframe with logarithmically scaled axis?
Hi,
I have some questions for the wireframe function of the lattice package. My dataset's "x-data" are sampled logarithmically and as such I would like to have a semilogarithmic 3D plot when plotting a time series. Does anyone know how to change the example in
http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/sources/source_40.R
such that x or y would be logarithmically scaled?
Also, I would

Wireframe graph: black and white shading instead of color
All,
The code below produces a color 3D graph. I'd like to make it black and
white shading. I tried setting col.regions to FALSE but this just made it
completely white. I want the graph to look exactly as is, except black (or
grey) and white shading. Is this possible?
Cheers,
David

Adding reference line or plane to cloud or wireframe
All,
I am wondering how one might add a reference line or plane to a cloud or
wireframe plot. I have been unable to figure this out. Let's say I would
like to draw a reference for some value of wt in the example below:
cl <- 54.1
age <- 10:80
wt <- 25:160
sim <- expand.grid(age = age,wt = wt)
sim$cl <- cl*(sim$wt/70)**0.412 * (sim$age/50)**0.152

grayscale wireframe??
I need grayscale formatting for a wireframe.
The only col.regions that I can find are color palettes are all colored:
rainbow(n, s = 1, v = 1, start = 0, end = max(1,n - 1)/n,
gamma = 1, alpha = 1)
heat.colors(n, alpha = 1)
terrain.colors(n, alpha = 1)
topo.colors(n, alpha = 1)
cm.colors(n, alpha = 1)
The code follows:
X11()
library(lattice)
par(family="serif", cex=1.2)

Plotting Two Surfaces in one plot with wireframe() using groups=
Hi. I tried the following:
F<-function(x,y,b1,b2,b3) b1/(1+b2*(x+b3*y));
t<-data.frame(ExM=c(T$ExM,F(T$S1,T$S2,0.2,0.2,51.28205)),S1=rep(T$S1,2),S2=rep(T$S2,2),gr=c(rep(1,length(T$ExM)),rep(2,length(T$ExM))));
library(lattice);
wireframe(ExM ~ S1 * S2, data = t, groups=gr);
where T is da dataframe like T<-data.frame(S1=...,S2=...,ExM=...)
But the resulting response

[lattice] Increase distance between tick labels and ticks in wireframe plot ("pad")
Hello,
I try to increase the distance between tick labels and ticks in a lattice wireframe plot. Here's a minimal example:
## Minimal example
x <- y <- z <- c(1,2,3)
df <- data.frame(x, y, z)
wireframe(z ~ x*y, df, scales = list(arrows = FALSE, col = "black", font = 1, tck=0.6))
I tried the axis.components option

wireframe: how to remove the frame around my plot?
Hi,
I've got a wireframe 3D surface plot, but I don't want a frame around it.
Is there any way to remove the frame, or (worst case)
change the color of the frame to the background color (which looks like
grey).
I'm using ver 1.7.1
I've tried frame.plot = F, but that doesn't seem to work for 'wireframe'.
Many thanks,
