Numbering sequences of non-NAs in a vector
Greetings, I have a vector of the form: [10,8,1,3,0,8,NA,NA,NA,NA,2,1,6,NA,NA,NA,0,5,1,9...] That is, a combination of sequences of non-missing values and missing values, with each sequence possibly of a different length. I'd like to create another vector which will help me pick out the sequences of non-missing values. For the example above, this would be:

If...while...or what else??
Dear R users,I come to you with a quite silly question I think, but I hope you can answer me... That is, I've got some problems in using the if and while conditions in a loop. Substantially, I want to select rows in a dataset depending on an index variable (suppose it ranges from 1 to 5), so to make a specific analysis (homemade of course) on thie new dataset. Mi first tought has been to do a

Identifying sequences
Hallo Everybody Consider the following vector a=1:10 b=20:30 c=40:50 x=c(a,b,c) I need a function that can tell me that there are three set of continuos sequences and that the first is from 1:10, the second from 20:30 and the third from 40:50. In other words: a,b, and c. regards Christiaan [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

rbind for matrices - rep argument
Dear R users,I'm facing a trivial problem, but I really can't solve it. I've tried a dozen of codes, but I can't get the result I want. The question is: I have a dataframe like this one [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [,5] [1,] 1 2 3 4 5 [2,] 2 5 5 4 9 [3,] 1 6 8 1 2 [4,] 8 6 4 1 5 made up of decimal numbers, of course. I want to

Calculating lengths of runs of 0 or 1 sequences in meteorological data
Dear List Members, I need some help about programming in S language. My problem is as follows: I have meteorological data (about rainfall measurement each day from 1989-2002), say like http://www.angelfire.com/ab5/get5/data.rainfall.txt or http://www.angelfire.com/ab5/get5/R.rainfall.txt in a sequence of 0(denoting dry day)'s and 1(denoting wet day)'s. I want to construct a frequency

Calculating length of consecutive sequences within a vector
Hi all, I have a nx1 logical array of zeros and ones and I want to calculate the individual lengths of all 1-consecutive sequences contained in it. Is there an easy quick way to do this in R? So, if I have a vector such as 111001101000011111110 I would like to get (1) 3, (2) 2, (3) 1, (4) 7 Any help would be appreciated! thanks! Jorge [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Detect numerical series
Hello, I am struggling with detecting successive digits in a numerical series vector. Here is an example: vec <- c(1, 15, 26, 29, 30, 31, 37, 40, 41) I want to be able to detect 29, 30, 31 and 40, 41. Then, I would like to delete the successive digits from the vector. 1, 15, 26, 29, 37, 40 Cheers -- View this message in context:

Dear R-users, I'm using lattice package and function xyplot for the first time so you will excuse me for my inexperience. I'm facing quite a simple problem but I'm having troubles on how to solve it, I've read tons of old mails in the archives and looked at some slides from?Deepayan Sarkar but still can not get the point. Asterisk sends wrong fxs 'Idle' hints
Hi, I have a problem with asterisk 10.8, hints and fxs dahdi phones: if a remote peer and an fxs phone gets connected and the remote peer hangsup, then asterisk sends the "Idle" state to notify the watcher before you hangup the fxs phone! Such a way if the user forgets to hangup the fxs phone (which is a cordless for example) then the operators will keep sending calls to him

Identifying and characterizing strings of NA in a vector
Dear R users, I was wondering if someone could suggest a few lines of code for my problem. I want to count the number and the length of strings of NA in a vector. For example: vec <- c(1, 2, 1, NA, NA, 1, 2, NA, NA, NA, 3, 4, NA, NA) has 2 strings of NA's of length 2 and 1 string of NA' of length 3. I can easily count the number of NA's per vector, but I am having a hard time
