Importing huge XML-Files
Dear all, for my diploma thesis I have to import huge XML-Files into R for statistical processing - huge means a size about 33 MB. I'm using the XML-Package version 1.9 As far as reading the complete file into R via xmlTreeParse doesn't work or is too slow, I'm trying to use xmlEventParse but I got completely stuck. I have many different type of nodes + <configuration>

Sweave special characters problem
Dear all, I use Sweave to create my reports. Unfortunately my script crashes whenever I my R code contains special characters like umlauts. Is there a way to to escape special characters in Sweave... This is the line that crashes Sweave: gl_bybranch = ddply(new_wans,.(period,Branchen), function(X) data.frame(Gesch?ftslage=mean(X$sentiment))) Unfortunately I can't just rename it, because I

SAX Parser best practise
Dear All, I have a question regarding best practise in setting up a XML parser within R. Because I have files with more than 100 MB and I'm only interested in some values I think a SAX-like parser using xmlEventParse() will be the best solution. Unfortunately the values I'm looking for, to construct some higher "mass spectrum", are distributed over different lines: as

Problem with umlaut on windows server
Hallo Samba-users, I've got a problem mounting a windows-share via mount / smbmount: The mount itself works without any problem, but when I try to enter a directory with a Umlaut (such as "?,?,?") the command fails. All the umlauts are replaced with a question mark when I "ls" in the directory which contains the directory with the umlaut. Changing the character set

Parsing very large xml datafiles with SAX: How to profile <anonymous> functions?
Hello everyone, I'm trying to parse a very large XML file using SAX with the XML package (i.e., mainly the xmlEventParsing function). This function takes as an argument a list of other functions (handlers) that will be called to handle particular xml nodes. If when I use Rprof(), all the handler functions are lumped together under the <anonymous> label, and I get something like this:

Transferring a dataset from WINXP to Mac - problems with umlauts
Dear R-Help, is it possible to correctly display umlauts in a dataset, which has been created under WINXP, on a Mac-system? This is the problem: I have imported a German MS-Access database into R 2.14.1 by using RODBC on a WINXP-System. It runs with a Latin-1 encoding (codepage 1252). However, most of the work is done with a Mac (UTF-8 encoding) and the R-dataset has been transferred to the MAC.

Sourcing files with Umlaut in path no longer works
Dear helpeRs, on my new machine - Windows 7 64Bit, R 2.15-2, I can no longer source files for which the path contains the o-Umlaut (?). As a historical burden, my username is Gr?mping and contains that Umlaut (I wouldn't have chosen it now, but decided to keep it for easy transfer). I have had the difficulty that I couldn't use the R CMD tools on files with Umlauts in the path (and

Query with special characters crashes under Windows XP
Hi, Index queries with special characters (e.g. German Umlauts but also other European ones) make the Ruby process run for quite a long time and crash finally. I''m using Rails on Windows XP with Ferret 0.11.4_mswin_32. I could isolate the problem in the following simple controller action (so there''s no web browser form field involved): def test index = Ferret::I.new index

Trouble with charsets on samba4
Hello I have much trouble with german umlauts. I've installed samba4 as a DC in an existing Windows Domain. The first join I made with a blank smb4.conf "samba-tool domain join DOMAIN DC -UAdministrator%Passwort --realm=DOMAIN.LOCAL --server=windows-dc.domain.local --use-ntvfs" It works fine and everything is synced. On the share we have directories and files with german umlauts.

Problem with German Umlauts
Hi @all... Following configuration i used before samba 3: character set = ISO8859-1 codepage = CP850 I could read an write files with umlauts from my Win2k Client. Doing an ls at the linux console showed a ? (question mark) instead the umlaut, but using mc (Midnight Commander) shows the right char. I was quite happy with this setup. Now, with samba 3.0.0final-1 (from Debian/sarge), I tried

Bug report: "doveadm rename" encodes special characters wrongly in mUTF-7 (in fs)
Hello there, I'm pretty sure I found a bug in latest Dovecot 2.2.5.5 (EE) when playing with the doveadm command. Naturally renaming a users mail folder should be done via "doveadm es consistent. So when using "doveadm rename" trying to rename a folder with special characters e.g. german umlauts like "??" it seems to create the folder wrongly in the filesystem.

No umlauts in filenames
My samba setup cannot handle files whose names contain german umlauts (????). The server is samba 2.2.8a-1 on Redhat 8.0 (from the binary RPM from the samba site), the client is running WinXP Home Edition. When I create a file whose filename contains umlauts on the samba share from the WinXP machine, the filename is displayed with question marks instead of the umlauts by ls on the linux machine,

factor levels with umlauts
Hi all I have to generate some test data for import in an sql database. The database is meant for web-based data entry in a study taking place in a german speaking region, so factor levels of the variables include umlauts. The variables in the dataframe t.muster are generated e.g. like this: t.muster$screening <- rep("ausgef?llt",50) and exported to a .csv file by:

Trouble with Umlauts
I am developing an application in German. This means I have umlauts. When I was using rails version 0.13.1 there seemed to be no further configuration needed for umlauts to be shown correctly. Now I have upgraded to 0.14.2 and the umlauts are being displayed at ''?''s. I changed the encoding of the page and it is UTF-8. I have also tried the steps listed at

authenticate plain and utf-8 with special chars
Hi, I experienced some problems with authenticate. seems like the mail clients like thunderbird send their base64 string in ISO- encoding, which doesnt work on my dovecot setup if there are some Umlauts I am not able to login as "?mer" for example If I authenticate from telnet with an base64 encoded utf-8 string like 'echo -en "\0?mer\0Start12" |base64'
