About "=" in command line in windows.
It seems, I don't understand something, or there is a bug in R.
I have made some experiments after my yesterday post about using "=" with -e
switch to the Rscript.
Now, I've found:
(1)
C:\users\wl\trainings\r>rscript --verbose -e "mean(x=1:3)"
running
'C:\Program Files\R\bin\Rterm.exe --slave --no-restore -e mean(x=1:3)'

DEOptim Parameters
I am trying to figure out how parameters are defined in a function that is used by DEOptim. That is, when I set upper and lower bounds for DEOptim how does it know which element of the function to apply those bounds to? For example, in DEOptim call below, when DEOptim goes into "optimfxn" how does it know what element of "optimfxn" to apply the upper and lower bounds to?

DEoptim example illustrating use of fnMap parameter for enforcement of cardinality constraints
Function DEoptim in package DEoptim for differential evolution defines an optional parameter fnMap:
fnMap
"an optional function that will be run after each population is created, but before the population is passed to the objective function. This allows the user to impose integer/cardinality constriants."
Unfortunately, there is no further documentation decribing the kind of

is it necessary to always register C routines with R_registerRoutines?
I am writing bindings to the neural network simulator SNNS.
At present I have used only .C interface, now I'm studying .Call interface.
I have adapted the example from page 77 of r-exts.pdf, however, it crashes
R.
I use MingW as recommended by Duncan Murdoch.
Please, tell me what I am missing.
The code is below.
Thank you.

Problem with accessing internal variable in package.
I am writing a package, which contains several functions and variables.
The variables are for internal use by functions.
Functions are ment to be callable by a user.
However, the function cannot access these variables.
The package contains only R code, and was created using package.skeleton
package.skeleton(name="ac9",
list=c(ls(pattern="(AB2)|(ac9)"),

Getting htmlParse to work with Hebrew? (on windows)
Hello dear R-help mailing list.
Looks like the same issue in Russian:
library(RCurl)
library(XML)
u = " http://www.cian.ru/cat.php?deal_type=2&obl_id=1&room1=1"
a = getURL(u)
a # Here - the Russian is fine.
a2 <- htmlParse(a)
a2 # Here it is a mess...
None of these seem to fix it:

[bug report] Cyrillic letter "я" interrupts script execution via R source function
My understanding (which could be wrong) is that when you source a file,
it first gets translated to your native locale and then parsed. When you
parse a character vector, it does not get translated.
In your locale, every "?" character (U+044F) gets replaced by the byte
"\xFF":
> iconv("\u044f", "UTF-8", "Windows-1251")

[bug report] Cyrillic letter "я" interrupts script execution via R source function
Hello,
I do not have an account on R Bugzilla, so I will post my bug report here.
I want to report a very old bug in base R *source()* function. It relates
to sourcing some R scripts in UTF-8 encoding on Windows machines. For some
reason if the UTF-8 script is containing cyrillic letter *"?"*, the script
execution is interrupted directly on this letter (btw the same scripts are
sourcing

Manipulating text files
Dear R Community,
I am trying to optimize a water quality model that I am using. Based on conversations with others more familiar with what I am doing I plan to implement DEOptim to do this. The water quality model is interfaced through a GUI. I have the input file necessary to alter parameters and run the model as a text file.
To do the optimization I have figured out the general procedure

Hi all
I hope anyone can help me with this. I'm trying to get vmware to play
along nicely on CentOS 5.1 x64, but I get errors when I try and start a
vmx image, or list them. This the the error:

Ping/Traceroute problem in 1 of 4 links
Hi you all guys/girls from this list,
I almost never use email lists, but this problem is driving me crazy.
I use shorewall for a long time ( since version 1.2.x) but now I use it
where I work, and here we now have 4 different ISP for redundance and
because it''s cheaper then 1 ISP and a bigger link. 3 of 4 ISP I have no
problems, but on the 4th ISP here goes my problem :

How to mask or escape "=" in Windows command prompt?
I have defined a function with several arguments and have it stored in the
.RData file.
The 'function head' is defined as follows
EstimALIConc
<-function(sdname,SZ,W,farea,watri,biomodel,start.part=1,nparts=20,method=c("optim","DEoptim"))
{
[ blah-blah-blah ]
(function body doesn't matter)
}
Then I call Rscript:

regarding roaming profiles.
My situation is that I am attempting to set up a small lab of around 10

nls for sum of exponentials
Hi there,
I am trying to fit the following model with a sum of exponentials -
y ~ Ae^(-md) + B e^(-nd) + c
the model has 5 parameters A, b, m, n, c
I am using nls to fit the data and I am using DEoptim package to pick the
most optimal start values -
fm4 <- function(x) x[1] + x[2]*exp(x[3] * -dist) + x[4]*exp(x[5] * -dist)
fm5 <- function(x) sum((wcorr-fm4(x))^2)
fm6 <- DEoptim(fm5,
