about strauss process
i have trouble in using spatstat package. i want to simulate a community under the Strauss process, which has a parameter gamma that controls interaction strength between points, and Strauss process is defined only for 0 ¡Ügamma ¡Ü 1 and is a model for inhibition between points. my problem is that in my data, many species's estimated gamma is larger than one.so if i still wanna simulate

Simulate Strauss process in 3D
Dear All, I would like to simulate a Strauss process in 3D, but there is only 2D in R. I understand a programming which is necessary, but I don't have idea how to simulate. Thanks. Apple [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Source code of Strauss Process
Dear all, I want to simulate a Strauss Hard Core process in 3D. I have found that someone else tried to do the same and he recived this answer, "If you need this immediately, I suggest you follow Brian Ripley's advice. This probably involves downloading a source tar file of the R package and finding the Fortran code in library/spatial/src/. The Fortran should be edited to generate 3D

attractive spatial point process?
Hi all, before I roll my own, naive implementation of a particular spatial point process, I thought I'd ask whether this has already been done. Specifically, I am looking for essentially the opposite of the Strauss and Mate'rn processes included in library(spatial) and documented in MASS. I am examining daily travel patterns, focusing on just the destinations of trips, not the

Re: Need help on how to list functions from a loaded package...
To All How does one get a list of functions from a loaded package so that one can then get the appropriate help for each of the functions. Currently my method is based on a lot of trial-and-error. Here's an example of what I mean... >From this forum I learn that an interesting package called "multtest" exists on Bioconductor. I then use R Console's "Packages" --

spatstat regression troubles
Hi Everyone, I am trying to figure out the spatstat package for the first time and am having some trouble. Unfortunately, I can't post my data set but I'll hopefully post enough details for some help. I want to model the intensity of a spatial point process using 2 covariates from my data. After reading through the documentation, I have successfully created 2 "ppp" objects. The

Worm distribution :-)
You are talking about random point patterns, since the glow-worms appear as ``stars'' (= points). See the package ``spatial'' (which comes with R) and try simulating a pattern using Strauss(). Or install the package ``spatstat'' from CRAN --- in this package there is a variety of ways to simulate ``regular'' random point patterns --- rMaternI, rMaternII, rSSI,

quasi-random sequences
Dear list useRs, I have to generate a random set of coordinates (x,y) in [-1 ; 1]^2 for say, N points. At each of these points is drawn a circle (later on, an ellipse) of random size, as in: > N <- 100 > > positions <- matrix(rnorm(2 * N, mean = 0 , sd= 0.5), nrow=N) > sizes<-rnorm(N, mean = 0 , sd= 1) > plot(positions,type="p",cex=sizes) My problem is to

uniform and clumped point plots
I am trying to generate two dimensional random coordinates. For randomly distributed data I have simply used >xy<-cbind(runif(100),runif(100)) However I also want to generate coordinates that are more uniformly distributed, and coordinates that are more contagiously distributed than the above. Can anyone make any suggestions Thanks. Dr Terry Beutel Rangeland Scientist Animal

Re: Need help on how to list functions from a loaded pack age...
You can get help on the whole package by > help(package="multtest") which is likely pretty close to what you want. There's the index etc for the package on the web as well. You can also just look in the package's installation directory. If it's loaded you can do an ls(2) say if it loaded in position 2, to get all objects in the package. Reid -----Original Message-----

spatstat ppm models with covariates
Hello R users, I am fitting spatial point process models in spatstat using ppm and my models actually contain spatial covariates. The results of the models are returned with some levels of the covariates absent. eg when I fit a model with "aspect" using: ppm(points, ~aspect, covariates=list(aspect=aspect)) the results give coefficients for "North"," South",

Multinomial Nested Logit package in R?
Dear R-Help, I'm hoping to find a Multinomial Nested Logit package in R. It would be great to find something analogous to "PROC MDC" in SAS: > The MDC (Multinomial Discrete Choice) procedure analyzes models > where the > choice set consists of multiple alternatives. This procedure > supports conditional logit, > mixed logit, heteroscedastic extreme value,

Turning ppp into im in spatstat
Dear all, I'm working with two point patterns (ppp) in spatstat. I turned one of them into a spatial covariate (im) object. After that, I used this im object to fit a Poisson model for the second point pattern, using the covariate layer from the first one. In R, the whole thing looks somewhat like this: my_first.im <- as.im(my_first.ppp) test.ppm <- ppm (my_second.ppp, ~my_first,

spatstat 1.11-0 Version 1.11-0 of package 'spatstat' is now available. Spatstat is a package for the analysis of spatial data, mostly point pattern data. See <www.spatstat.org> Important changes in version 1.11-0: New format for ppm objects (objects in old format are still handled). More stringent checking of function arguments. Improved handling of pixellation effects.

rsync via tunnel - 3 boxes separated by internet
Hi, I have searched the archived, and see this question has come up with some frequency, but the solution by the original poster is never posted or the question is not answered completely. I have also RTFM (rsync and ssh), and I've been trying examples that I have googled. So here it is again. BoxA --internet-- BoxB (accessable only by ssh) -- BoxC I want to backup BoxC to BoxA. I want
