xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
Hi List,
I'm stuck how to get a dual head monitor solution to work with Nouveau,
running openSUSE 13.1 on my hp8710w mobile workstation equipped with a
Nvidia graphical card. Beyond the built-in WUXGA display, an external
WQHD monitor is connected to the HDMI port on the graphical card and/or
to the dual link DVI-D on a hp docking station.
To compare with SLED11/Nvidia driver running in

Count unique rows/columns in a matrix
Dear List,
i know there are some solutions for this in the archive,
but they're not very good for numeric matrices, since they
usually convert rows/columns to character strings. Is there
an easy way to do $subject for numeric matrices properly,
or i need to do it by hand?
Thanks,
Gabor

It was twenty years ago today...
Xapian has turned 20!
Strictly speaking it was 20 years ago last month but I managed to miss
the true anniversary - the oldest commit in the Xapian repo is:
commit 8ced76ea128c8fb2792477e09b41fa989f2e572f
Author: Richard Boulton <richard at tartarus.org>
Date: Fri Sep 10 09:50:40 1999 +0000
Martins initial code, which didn't work for him but did for me.

Quick tip please!
I have two CSV files (exported from Excel), say file1 and file2.
The have the same number of rows, and each has several columns,
with names on the first line; and some of the columns in file1
are repeated in file2.
Using the "foreign" package, I can read these in separately
to dataframes say d1 and d2 with

xrandr HDMI-1 and DVI-D-1 disconnected - External monitor not detected
The important thing for display detection/setting proper modes/etc is
the kernel -- what kernel version are you using?
Separately, there has been a fix that affected VBIOSes found in NV96
cards, and it would not be a stretch to believe that a similar VBIOS
script could be found in a NV92 card. However the NV96 error condition
was different (everything detected fine, but no actual image

really dumb question | loop counters in
Basically new to [R] - as a programming environment at least (had lots
of recent experience compiling it on our Opteron-based servers). Was
trying to write some simple little scripts (in advance of porting over
some bigger things from other environments - like MATLAB), when I
realized that handling counters in loop constructs in [R] is not
patently obvious (at least, IMO, compared to other

PAM_RHOST item
A little problem, which is bugging me: when using PAM authentication,
Dovecot (0.99.5) does not set the PAM_RHOST item, so the PAM modules
cannot know who the client is. We need this for some PAM module doing
access control.
Changing passdb-pam.c to pam_set_item it seems trivial, but I'm bugged
as to how to get the client name from there. It seems not to be
available in the auth_request

Patch to wobbly snap for outputs
Here's a patch to wobbly.c to handle edge snapping with multiple outputs...
Also, I tweaked the window edge snapping to include dock window types, to
support the case where dock windows may be on the inner edges of multiple
monitors (and thus currently ignored as struts in the output workarea setup).
I personally think we should include these "inner" struts when calculating the

Multi-panel Pie Charts.
Hi All,
I'm trying to find out a way to plot multi-panel pie charts. It may not be
the best way to present data, but I would still need one.
1. Is anyone aware of some in-built script/function which can do this for
me. I'm aware of one given in Deepayan's book, but anything apart from this?
2. I tried using Deepayan's script on following data set but it doesn't seem
to work

plot.dendrogram() plot margins
Hello,
Is it possible to remove those extra margins on the "sample" axis from
plot.dendrogram:
par(oma=c(0,0,0,0),mar=c(0,0,0,0))
ddr<-as.dendrogram(hclust(dist(matrix(sample(1:1000,200),nrow=100))))
stats:::plot.dendrogram(ddr,horiz=F,axes=F,yaxs="i",leaflab="none")
vs.
stats:::plot.dendrogram(ddr,horiz=T,axes=F,yaxs="i",leaflab="none")

sync+Rnw+TeXShop, again
Hi All --
I'm not sure this is the natural place for this question, but this list is
the place with the best Sweave-TeXShop-sync discussion so far.
My problem is that sync+Sweave+TeXShop works sometimes and not others, and
it's not consistent. The failure, in which sync from PDF opens the .tex
file instead of the .Rnw file, always comes after a code chunk.
If I start from a simple

Ideas for Rails Shirt Graphics
I''ve had a couple ideas for Ruby on Rails shirt graphics for a little
while now:
1. "Fuck You" superimposed over, oh, probably a Ruby gem. Or Rails of
some sort.
2. "Ruby on Rails" superimposed over rails of cocaine. Maybe also with a
graphic of a crazed looking coder.
Anybody got graphics? Or can make them? Heh!

Modifying Names from (x,y] into x
Hi,
I have the following data that looks like this:
> names(dat)
[1] "(-2329,-2319]" "(-1399,-1389]" "(-669.4,-659.4]"
How can I modify those names into just this?

Dialplan Design Q
I have to design a dialplan for mulitple contexts (multiple companies)
and I'm not sure how to go about it and I thought someone may offer
help. Here is some background. There are three separate companies,
let's say A, B and C. Each has their own context and each has their own
set of numbers (these are just examples, not the actual config):

replicating the odds ratio from a published study- post # 2
Peter & Michael,
I just came across the following on another mailing list and realized that
my use (and the authors of the article use of the term 'odds ratio' ) is
probably incorrect. I believe my interest is in the 'odds' of schizophrenia
among the population of homicide, rather than a comparison of odds .
"Yours seems a good idea, Kevin, if you are only interested
