Error using PostScriptTrace()
I couldn't run PostScriptTrace() from the package "grImport" without an error. At first the postscript program couldn't be found. however the problem persisted after the full path the postscript program was indicated. I read earlier post on the subject in vain. See the codes and output below. The file "Senegal_location_map.ps" was originally a "svg" file from:

grImport/ghostscript problems
Hi All: I've been struggling for a while trying to get grImport up and running. I'm on a Windows 7 (home premium 64 bit) machine running R-2.12.2 along with GPL Ghostscript 9.01. I've set my Windows PATH variable to point to the Ghostscript \bin and \lib directories, and I've created the R_GSCMD environment variable pointing to gswin32c.exe. I don't have any experience with

Reading .eps file created in Illustrator
Hello, I am trying to import an .eps file created with Adobe Illustrator and plot it in a Quartz window (I am using R 2.11.1 GUI 1.34 Leopard build 32-bit (5589) on MacOSx.5.8). I thought of using the PostScriptTrace() to convert my .eps file to RGML, and then use readPicture to plot the file, but the first step already fails (cf below). I also had a look at the add.image( ) example,

grImport symbols
Dear list, I have two questions regarding grid.symbols() in the grImport package. This package allows you to import a vector graphic in R, and grid.symbols() can be used to plot the resulting glyph at arbitrary locations in a grid viewport. I have tried the code in the grImport vignette, which is most interesting, however I am stuck with two problems: 1- Is there a possibility to create a

fill map with gradient: package?
Hi, I'd like to fill an existing svg (or png) map with gradient colors. In detail: The file http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Karte_%C3%96sterreich_Bundesl%C3%A4nder.svg should be filled with the population density data from this table: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96sterreich#Verwaltungsgliederung choosing the right color saturation (or whatever). The final result should be something

using speex in C#
Hi SAITAMA Taro, I have been using speex-1.2beta1 dll in our voice application written with C#. In order to use Speex correctly firstly I advice to you examination speexenc and speexdec projects. I have used unsafe code and fixed statements in C#. I have added following method to library and I used that instead of speex_encoder_init simply. void *speex_encoder_init_new(int modeID) { const

Add png image outside plot borders
I am trying to add a copyright disclaimer outside the plot borders of some images I have created. I can use mtext() to add the written portion, but I would like to have the Creative Commons license image (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cc.logo.circle.svg) before the text. I've found that I can plot a .png image inside the plot boundaries using rasterImage() but I can't figure out how to

package grid: mirror grob objects along an axis
Hi everyone I'd like to flip grobs (grid graphical objects) along an axis, e.g. flip grobs horizontally or vertically. I couldn't find any hints, neither in the documentation nor by searching the web. Does anybody know how to achieve this? Cheers /thomas

Using grImport to create a watermark
Hi… I want to use grImport to create a watermark on a plot() using the methods Paul Murrell describes here: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/grImport/vignettes/import.pdf (page 28). I can essentially reproduce this manually at the R prompt, and independently I can use grid.picture(…) successfully in a R script, but when I attempt to do do this in my script: • • •

unicode only works with a second one
I'd like to paste a zodiac sign on a graph, but it only prints it when I add another unicode ( \u3030) to the desired \u2648 - why? See the examplecode (compare the orange with the skyblue): plot(c(-1,1),c(-4,-2),type="n") text(x=0,y=-3.0,labels="\u2648 \u3030",cex=2.3,col="skyblue") text(x=0,y=-3.2,labels="\u2648",cex=2.3,col="orange")

Positioning plots on top of each other (aligment & borders)
Hello, I want to place two plots on top of each other. However, the problem is that I can't figure out a simple way to align them correctly. Is there a way to specify this? Since the data is bunch of coordinates and the second layer is an outline of a map (a .ps file I import using the grImport package), I suppose one option would be to specify a set of "artificial" coordinates that

eps file with embedded font

I use: postscript("ranking-exp-all.eps", horizontal=TRUE, onefile=FALSE, paper="special", height=8, width=12, family="Helvetica") # plot stuff dev.off() since R does not embed font, I then use: embedFonts(file="indegdistr.eps", outfile="indegdistrEMB.eps",

Upload PDF / Save as tiff
Hi, I''m trying to automate the conversion of a PDF document received via a browser upload to a tiff image via ghostscript. I have the PDF data in a string, and I need the tiff data returned into a string. The general command I want to emulate is: type test.pdf | "c:\program files\gs\gs8.56\bin\gswin32c.exe" -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=tiffg4 -sOutputFile=- > test5.tiff

How to change a venn command into a named object that can be plotted like a lattice object
Hello, I am plotting data as a venn diagram but would like to be able to control how it is plotted like a lattice object. Right now, it plots right away. I would like to name it and then plot at will. I thought to convert the whole thing to a PostScript file then get it back into R via grImport, but surely (please!) there must be a less roundabout way to do this. Any help is appreciated. Here

Help interpreting output of Rprof
Hello there, I am not quite sure how to interpret the output of Rprof (in the following the output I was staring at). I was poking around the web a little bit for documentation but without much success. I guess if I want to figure out what takes so long in my code the 2nd table $by.total and the total.pct column (pct = percent) is the most helpful. What does it mean that [ or [.data.frame is

help with parsing multiple coxph() results
Dear All: I have a question on using coxph for multiple genes: I have written code to loop through all 22283 genes in the Hgu-133A and apply coxph on survival data. However, I don't know how to work with the result for each gene: survtest<-coxph(Surv(pcc.primary.stg.3.cox[,'fup_interval'],pcc.primary.stg.

Contingency table: logistic regression
Hi, I am analyzing a data set with greater than 1000 independent cases (collected in an unrestricted manner), where each case has 3 variables associated with it: one, a factor variable with 0/1 levels (called XX), another factor variable with 8 levels (X) and a third response variable with two levels (Y: 0/1). I am trying to see if X1 has an effect on the relationship between X2 and the
