plotting rpart objects, text.rpart, fancy option
I have created plots of rpart objects with the fancy option for text.rpart ("fancy" creates ellipses and rectangles and labels branches with splitting criteria). The ellipses and rectangles are supposed to "interrupt" the tree lines (as seen in Therneau and Atkinson 1997, page 48, Fig. 18, http://www.mayo.edu/hsr/techrpt/61.pdf), but they do not, even when I use Therneau and

Rpart decision tree
Dear useRs: I try to plot an rpart object but cannot get a nice tree structure plot. I am using plot.rpart and text.rpart (please see below) but the branches that connect the nodes overlap the text in the ellipses and rectangles. Is there a way to get a clean nice tree plot (as in the Rpart Mayo report)? I work under Windows and use R2.11.1 with rpart version 3.1-46. Thank you. Tudor ...

R and Tinn-R communication problems
I have a couple of Tinn-R problems that I hope someone may be able to make some suggestions about or point me to a Tinn-R source. So far I have not found anything particularly relevant by googling on Tinn-R. NOTE: Just to be on the safe side I uninstalled both R and Tinn-R , ran some cleanup and registry cleaner software and still am having the problems. Problem One Tinn-R 2.3.7.1 R 2.13.0

R 3.5.3 having trouble spawning a new process on my Windows 10 machine
Hi Sam, Is your PATH set on your user environment variables or on the system? Did you try to remove the entry for R-3.5.2 ? I have tested with a standard install, and I can't reproduce your error. I have the exact same path in my system PATH environment variable for 3.5.3, and nothing for other versions. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Cheers Joris On Mon, Mar 25, 2019 at 4:54 PM

R 3.5.3 having trouble spawning a new process on my Windows 10 machine
Hi all, I am noticing some strange behaviour so I am bringing to this list. In the past when I have submitted bugs to bugzilla, I have come here first for confirmation/advice. Hopefully this is appropriate. Upgrading from R 3.5.2 to R 3.5.3 seems to have elicited some strange behaviour on my Windows machine. R seems to have trouble spawning a new process on my machine. You can noticing with all

rpart - the xval argument in rpart.control and in xpred.rpart
Dear R users, I'm working with the rpart package and want to evaluate the performance of user defined split functions. I have some problems in understanding the meaning of the xval argument in the two functions rpart.control and xpred.rpart. In the former it is defined as the number of cross-validations while in the latter it is defined as the number of cross-validation groups. If I am

Send code to R from WinEdt55
R Gurus: This sounds not a FAQ. I upgraded WinEdt from 5.4 to 5.5 , following load RWinEdt, R-WinEdt editor appears. There are more menu items and task icons in this version, but I failed to find a pull down menu or task icon to send code to R. What did I miss? > sessionInfo() R version 2.11.0 (2010-04-22) i386-pc-mingw32 locale: [1] LC_COLLATE=English_Canada.1252

Using minsplit and unequal weights in rpart
Dear r-help mailing list, Is there a way to incorporate weights into the minsplit criteria in rpart, when the weights are uneven? I could not find a way for the minsplit threshold to take the weights into account, and when the weights are uneven it becomes an issue, as the following example shows. My current workaround is to expand the data into one in which each row is an observation, but that

need help with plot.rpart and text.rpart
Hi, I am new to R and need help with rpart. I am trying to create a classification tree using rpart. In order to plot the reults I use the plot function and the text function to label the plot of the tree dendrogram with text. The documentation of text.rpart says : "For the "class" method, label="yval" results in the factor levels being used, "yprob" results

rpart$where and predict.rpart
Hello there. I have fitted a rpart model. > rpartModel <- rpart(y~., data=data.frame(y=y,x=x),method="class", ....) and can use rpart$where to find out the terminal nodes that each observations belongs. Now, I have a set of new data and used predict.rpart which seems to give only the predicted value with no information similar to rpart$where. May I know how

Bug with message if there is no documentation; R2.8alpha Win32 (PR#13131)
In the latest R 2.8 alpha for Win32, if either of the commands are typed: > help("erfc") .. or .. > ?erfc the result is: No documentation for 'erfc' in specified packages and libraries: you could try '??erfc' This should be: 'help.search("erfc")', as shown in R 2.7.2 Apologies if this has already been submitted/fixed. -Mike --please do not edit

SciViews and Tinn-R installation problem
Hello, I have just installed R 2.7.0 and re-installed SciViews 0.8-9 and Tinn-R 1.19.4.7 and seem to have broken something along the way as follows. I double-click on my current .RData file in the Windoze explorer, R Console and Tinn-R load successfully (?). I can list objects in my working directory with ls() but, when I attempt to refresh any list in the R explorer tab of the Tools child

Request to review a patch for rpart
Dear list For my work, it would be helpful if rpart worked seamlessly with an empty model: library(rpart); rpart(formula=y~0, data=data.frame(y=factor(1:10))) Currently, an unrelated error (originating from na.rpart) is thrown. At some point in the near future, I'd like to release a package to CRAN which uses rpart and relies on that functionality. I have prepared a patch (minor

packages with DLLs under 2.12.0
I realize that R-core must be busy with the imminent release of 2.11.0, so please consider this not urgent. The NEWS file for 2.12.0 (Windows-specific) says, in part: For now, 32-bit packages with compiled code built under 2.{10,11}.x can be used, but this will be disabled before release. For me, this doesn't work without a tweak. For example, > library(mvtnorm) #Error:

Xenial rpart package on CRAN built with wrong R version?
Hello, I just upgraded my Ubuntu Xenial system to R 3.5.1 (from 3.4.?) by changing the sources.list entry and doing an "apt-get dist-upgrade". Everything works except loading the rpart package in R: > library(rpart) Error: package or namespace load failed for ?rpart?: package ?rpart? was installed by an R version with different internals; it needs to be reinstalled for use with

rpart weight parameter and random forest based on rpart
Hi all, I am very new to R (only two days of studies). I know a little bit of statistical learning and looking for an implementation of CART and random forest and therefore I am now studying R. I tested with rpart and randomForest package, they are quite good. However, I need a classification tree and for each training data, there is different loss. (i.e. the loss function is not purely 0-1,

rpart output: rule extraction beyond path.rpart()
Greetings - Is there a way to automatically perform what I believe is called "rule extraction" (by Quinlan and the machine learning community at least) for the leaves of trees generated by rpart? I can use path.rpart() to automatically extract the paths to the leaves, but these can be needlessly cumbersome. For example, one path returned by path.rpart() might be: [1]

rpart Error in yval[, 1] : incorrect number of dimensions
I tried using rpart, as below, and got this error message "rpart Error in yval[, 1] : incorrect number of dimensions". Thinking it might somehow be related to the large number of missing values, I tried using complete data, but with the same result. Does anyone know what may be going on, and how to fix it? I have traced two similar error messages in the Archive, but following the

Change font size in Windows
My day for dumb questions. How do I increase the type size in the Rgui console in Windows? (R-2.13.0, Windows 7) It looked to me that I just needed to change the font spec in Rconsole but that does not seem to be working. The R FAQ for Windows has a reference in Q3.4 to changing fonts, (Q5.2), but I don't see anything relevant there. Rconsole originally was: font = TT Courier New points =
