Multiple Imputation / Non Parametric Models / Combining Results
Dear R-Users,
The following question is more of general nature than a merely technical
one. Nevertheless I hope someone get me some answers.
I have been using the mice package to perform the multiple imputations. So
far, everything works fine with the standard regressions analysis.
However, I am wondering, if it is theoretically correct to perform
nonparametric models (GAM, spline

Combining imputed datasets for analysis using Factor Analysis
Dear R users and developers,
I have a dataset containing 34 variables measured in a survey, which has
some missing items. I would like to conduct a factor analysis of this
data. I tested mi, Amelia, and MissForest as alternative packages in
order to impute the missing data. I now have 5 separate datasets with
the variables I am interested in factor analysing. In my reading of the
package

Help with Amelia
Hi
I have used the amelia command from the Amelia R package. this gives me a number
of imputed datasets.
This may be a silly question, but i am not a statistician, but I am not sure how
to combine these results to obtain the imputed dataset to usse for further
statistical analysis. I have looked through the amelia and zelig manuals but
still can not find the answer. This maybe because I dont

Rubin's rules of multiple imputation
Hello all, if I have multiple imputed data sets, is there a command or
function in R in any package you know of to combine those, I know one common
MI approach is rubins rules, is there a way to do this using his rules or
others? I know theres ways, like using Amelia from Gary King's website to
create the imputed data sets, but how to make them into one or combine them
for analysis.

ordered logistic regression of survey data with missing variables
Hello:
I am working with a stratified survey dataset with sampling weights
and I want to use multiple imputation to help with missingness.
1. Is there a way to run an ordered logistic regression using both a
multiply imputed dataset (i.e. from mice) and adjust for the survey
characteristics using the weight variable? The Zelig package is able
to do binary logistic regressions for survey

LM Model
Dear R-Users,
How can I put a pre-defined regression model into to an object of class lm
in order to use the predict.lm function.
A simplified example:
I would normally run a regression analysis on a dataset,
> germany<-lm(RENT~AGE1, in.mi01)
> summary(germany)
Call:
lm(formula = RENT ~ AGE1, data = in.mi01)
Residuals:
Min 1Q Median 3Q Max

[Slightly OT] Mac and Samba
Hello all...
I have a question that is outside the realm of my experience but that
has come up several times recently.
I have a mixed network (some Macs, some PCs) that needs a server. I'm
going through the standard process of deciding between Samba and a
Windows domain controller, my strong preference being to install
Linux/Samba server. The sticking point seems to be that the Mac users

Impact of multiple imputation on correlations
Dear all,
I have been attempting to use multiple imputation (MI) to handle missing data in my study. I use the mice package in R for this. The deeper I get into this process, the more I realize I first need to understand some basic concepts which I hope you can help me with.
For example, let us consider two arbitrary variables in my study that have the following missingness pattern:

missing data imputation
Dear R-help,
I am trying to impute missing data for the first time using R. The norm
package seems to work for me, but the missing values that it returns seem
odd at times -- for example it returns negative values for a variable that
should only be positive. Does this matter in data analysis, and/or is
there a way to limit the imputed values to be within the minimum and
maximum of the actual

Question about GUI processing order
I am developing a GUI with WxRuby (wxruby-1.9.1-i386-mswin32, ruby-1.8.6).
In one of my button event handlers I do the following in this order:
set the value of a TextCtrl,
show a button (which was hidden),
hide the button that was caused this event
play some sounds (using Sound.play)
What I observe is that all these things happen, but not in the order I
specified. Hiding the button occurs

Update today broke foreign package (PR#13533)
Hi,
I'm running R 2.8.1 on Ubuntu, and today I got updates for a couple of
packages, including foreign (r-cran-foreign, now at version 0.8.32).
Subsequent to the upgrade, attempts to invoke read.spss produce the
following error:
Error in inherits(x, "factor") : object "cp" not found
and the call to read.spss fails. I forced a downgrade to 0.8.26, and

Windows member servers have lost their minds...
Hello all...
I'm having a serious problem after a Samba upgrade from 3.0.20 to
3.0.23c.
A bit of background: I have a network with a Samba PDC and several
member servers running Windows 2000 server.
I upgraded my PDC from Mandrivalinux to RHEL5, which (obviously)
included a Samba upgrade.
I renamed the old server to a different hostname and IP address, and
disabled Samba on it, then I copied

Gelman-Rubin Convergence test
Dear friends,
I run the Gelman-Rubin Convergence test for a MCMC object I have and I
got the following result Multivariate psrf 1.07+0i, What does this mean? I
guess (if I am not mistaken) that I should get a psrf close to 1.00 but what
is 1.07+0i? Is that convergence or something else?

MCMCpack combining chains
Deal all, as MCMClogit does not allow for the specification of several chains, I have run my model 3 times with different random number seeds and differently dispersed multivariate normal priors.
For example:
res1 = MCMClogit(y~x,b0=0,B0=0.001,data=mydat, burnin=500, mcmc=5500, seed=1234, thin=5)
res2 = MCMClogit(y~x,b0=1,B0=0.01,data=mydat, burnin=500, mcmc=5500, seed=5678, thin=5)

Box Tidwell / Error Message / Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error in

I used the box.tidwell () function of the car Package.
So far everything is fine. However, if the number of dummy variables in the
part not to be transformed (other.x formula) exceeds a certain level (around
70), I receive the following error message:
Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error in

Windows clients losing connection to Samba 3.0.27 PDC on FC7 i386
Hello all...
I have a site of about 50 pcs connected to a Samba domain controller.
The domain has been running flawlessly for several years through several
upgrades, and the last one (From Fedora Core 4/ Samba 3.0.23a to FC7/
Samba 3.0.27) seems to have caused something to come unglued.
The Workstations are periodically booting up in the morning and being
unable to contact the domain controller.

Question about Window#raise
I want to force my Frame to be visible under certain conditions, even if
it''s currently behind other windows. I am running under Windows XP. I am
calling raise to do this, but the Frame doesn''t come to the front, though
the icon does alert. Isn''t this what Window#raise is supposed to do? Is
this a Windows issue?
