heckit with a probit
Hi
I have data for voting behaviour on two (related) binary votes. I want
to examine the second vote, running separate regressions for groups
who voted different ways on the first vote. As the votes are not
independent, I guess that there is an issue with selection bias.
So, I think I would like to fit a heckit style model but with a binary
dependent variable - so, in effect, two successive

heckit / tobit estimation
Dear All,
we (Ott Toomet and I) would like to add functions for maximum likelihood (ML)
estimations of generalized tobit models of type 2 and type 5 (*see below) in
my R package for microeconomic analysis "micEcon". So far we have called
these functions "tobit2( )" and "tobit5( )".
Are these classifications well known? How are these functions called in other

Heckman regression / adjustment for standard errors?
Hello folks,
I am trying to estimate the two-step Heckman regression model. I would like to make an adjustment for intragroup correlations. Stata can implement this with the "cluster" option, but I am really hoping to stick with R. It seems that the micEcon package is the primary source for this two-step regression model (i.e., heckit), but I can't find a way to make the

Need help on running Heckman Correction Estimation using R
Team,
I am trying to resolve the self-selection bias of a sample in an experiment
and would like to run the Heckman Correction Estimation using R. Can
someone help me with the R-Code... I tried searching for the discussion, but
not successful. Thanks in advance,
Best,

NAMESPACE choices for exporting S4 methods
We are building a package, and want to create S4 methods for both head and
mean for our own BigMatrix class. Following the recommendation in "Writing
R Extensions" we use exportMethods instead of export in NAMESPACE (this is
described as being "clearer"). This works for head, but not for mean.
Obviously we importFrom(utils, head), but don't need to do this for mean,

Heckit model with Robus std error fit
Hi,
I am currently usind R to do a heckit maxlikehood model and I was wondering
if there is anyway to do it but specifying the robustness of the std error.
I would like it robust.
I am currently working with:
heckit(selection= ,outcome= , method "ml")
Is there anithing else to type into this function to manage that?
if not, Is there any other previous or later thing to do

bigmemory - extracting submatrix from big.matrix object
I am using the library(bigmemory) to handle large datasets, say 1 GB,
and facing following problems. Any hints from anybody can be helpful.
_Problem-1:

I am using "read.big.matrix" function to create a filebacked big matrix
of my data and get the following warning:

Understanding an R improvement that already occurred.
I was surprised to observe the following difference between 2.4.1 and
2.6.0 after a long overdue upgrade a few months ago of our
departmental server. It wasn't a bug fix, but a subtle improvement.
Here's the simplest example I could create. The size is excessive, on
the order of the Netflix Competition data.
The integer matrix is about 1.12 GB, and if coerced to numeric it is
2.24 GB.

Heckman Selection Model/Inverse Mills Ratio
I have so far used the following command
glm(formula = s ~ age + gender + gemedu + gemhinc + es_gdppc +
imf_pop + estbbo_m, family = binomial(link = "probit"))
My question is
1. How do i discard the non significant selection variables (one out of the
seven variables above is non-significant) and calculate the Inverse Mills
Ratio of the significant variables
2. I need the inverse

Robust vce for heckman estimators
When using function heckit() from package ‘sampleSelection’, is there anyway to make t-tests for the coefficients using robust covariance matrix estimator? By “robust” I mean something like if a had an object ‘lm’ called “reg” and then used:
> coeftest(reg, vcov = vcovHC(reg)).
I’m asking this because in Stata we could use function heckman and then use vce option “robust”. We could do the

R procedure similar to STATA heckprob?
Is anyone aware of an R procedure similar to STATA's "heckprob" procedure?
"Heckprob" fits maximum likelihood probit models correcting for sample
selection bias.

clog-log based heckit?
Dear R Help,
I'm using the sampleSelection library to run a heckman model. The default is
to use a probit model for the selection equation. I would like to know if it
is possible to use a clog-log for the selection equation either with the
sampleSelection library or in a different way. Is this possible? I'd
appreciate any advice!

huge data?
Hi Jay Emerson,
Our Intention is to primarily optimize "R" to utilize the Parallel
Processing Capabilities of CELL BE Processor.(has any work been done in this
area?)
We have huge pages(of size 1MB 16MB ) available in the system and as you
pointed out our data is also in the GB ranges. So the idea is if Vectors of
this huge size are allocated from Huge Pages the performance will

Heckman estimation
Hi,
I wrote a function to perform a two-step Heckman (also known as "heckit")
estimation. This function is mainly a wrapper function to "glm" (1st step
probit estimation) and "lm" (2nd step OLS estimation). Though this function
is not perfect yet, it is IMHO already very useful. Since there were some
questions about Heckmann estimation in this list, I would like

New package for microeconomics: micEcon
Dear all,
I have uploaded a new package called micEcon (version 0.1-3) to CRAN
(an early version of this package has been already presented at useR! 2004).
It contains tools for microeconomic analysis and microeconomic modeling.
These are for instance:
- tools for demand analysis with the 'Almost Ideal Demand System' (AIDS):
e.g. econometric estimation, calculation of price and

License for including datasets in packages
Dear All,
I would like to publish a function for 'heckit' estimations together with two
examples from Greene's and Wooldridge's econometric textbooks.
These examples use the dataset of Mroz (1987) that is also available in John
Fox' "car" package. However, not all variables that are used in my examples
are available in the "car" package. Therefore, I

I didn't see anything on this in the bug reports, and a search of the

I don't view this as particularly interesting or useful, but wanted to
report it because I stumbled on it (and don't remember ever seeing
"invalid permissions" as part of a segfault).? Yes, I realize this is

Mosaic Plots
Hello Everyone
I want to plot Moasic Plots, I have tried them using iplots package (using
imosaic). The problem is the names dont get alligned properly, is there a
way to a align the names and provide legend in Mosaic plots using R?
Also I would like to know any other packages using which I can plot Mosaic
Plots
Thank you in advance
