Cross-compilation of R and ld bug ?
Hello list, I would like to cross-compile R packages using R 2.4.0. I am working on Linux Debian and cross-compiled (windows binaries) without problems with older R version. I have used the doc of Yan and Rossini in the contributed section of the R documentation (same version of MinGW...). When I try to cross-compile R (make R), the procedure stopped and returns :

Possible ld.exe problem when building
Dear R People: I am trying to build R-2.5.0 from source on a Windows machinee. I downloaded the tools and such, and started things off. I received some odd errors messages, looked on the R Search and found a similar problem. The suggestion was to re-load "ld.exe". I downloaded and installed everything again. Same problem. I am including my output.

pcre library in R (PR#9319)
I have the same problem, trying to cross-compile. I'm running Ubuntu Edgy, kernel 2.6.17-10-generic, on an IBM T60. I downloaded the Makefile from CRAN and ran make CrossCompileBuild with the following error messages (also ran each make one at the time and the problem occurs in make R): ../extra/pcre/libpcre.a(pcre_dfa_exec.o):pcre_dfa_exec.c:(.text+0x1703): undefined reference to

Problems with building R from sources
Hello all, I'm trying to build R 32bit from source in a Windows 64 machine. I have followed the steps in "R Installation and Adiministration" ( http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-admin.html#Getting-the-source-files) or at least I think I did everything described. I am not sure if I have installed the libjpeg, libtiff and libpng files though. I have upzipped them in the

element wise opertation between a vector and a list
I want to try to get a result of element wise addition between a vector and a list. It can be done with "for statement." In order to reducing computing time, I have tried to avoid "for state." If anybody give me an idea, I would apprecite it much. for example, with a & b as below lines, a<- list(c(1,3),c(1,2),c(2,3)) b<-c(10,20,30) I would like to have a list (like

multiple cluster doesn't work
We're trying to setup 3 PRDM partitions (VMware) across 2 nodes. As long as only one is configured in cluster.conf, there's not problem. As soon as we try to use 2 or more we get issues. It looks the same as bug 636: http://oss.oracle.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=636 I posted my cluster.conf and command line results there. I'm including them here in the hopes that someone on this

Sparse matrix calculation
Hello, I work on large matrices and found something interesting. For multiplication of matrices, the order has a huge influence on computing time when one of them is a sparse matrix. In the below example, M is a full matrix and A is a sparse matrix in a regular matrix class. A %*% M takes much more time than M %*% A; moreover, t(t(M) %*% t(A)) is much faster than A %*% M with same result. I

KernSmooth not loading in R 2.7.2
I just upgraded to R 2.7.2 (from 2.7.1) this morning (Ubuntu amd64 platform). Shortly afterwards, I ran into a problem loading the odesolve library, it could not find libRblas.so. I was able to fix this by rebuilding odesolve. Now, KernSmooth gives me the same problem... R> library(KernSmooth) Error in dyn.load(file, DLLpath = DLLpath, ...) : unable to load shared library

Trouble compiling igraph. . .
Been and R-user for about 5 years now in an industrial setting, and always find the mailing list most helpful. I have run into problem compiling igraph on R. I have contacted the maintainer of igraph, and he has determined that it is not an igraph problem. System is FreeBSD 7.2, R-2.10.1 [also have a sandbox machine running FreeBSD 7.3, R-2.11]. Both machines fail the installation of igraph.

A faster way to calculate Trace?
I want to know how to get trace of product of matrices **faster** when the matrices are really big. Unfortunately the matrices are not symmetric. If anybody know how to get the trace of it, please help me. An example is as below. n <- 2500 a <- matrix(rnorm(n*n),n,n) b <- matrix(rnorm(n*n),n,n) tr1 <- sum(diag(a %*% b)) tr2 <- sum(diag(a %*% b %*% a %*% b)) Thanks, Yongwan Chun

Hi, hpa wrote: > On PowerPC (I think) "unsigned char" is the default. In any case it seems a good idea to interpret the character more explicitely. To my experience, one signdness change causes a little tree of consequential signedness changes or questionable cast operations. How about the following instead ? if ((c >= 0 && c <= ' ') || c == '\x7f')
