tcltk freezing using MS Windows for R-2.14+
I am the maintainer of a Bioconductor package (affylmGUI) which uses tcltk. It freezes inconsistently on MS Windows, but not Mac or Unix. see details below. After considerable testing I have reduced the problem from a few thousand lines of code to 30 lines! If you paste the following lines of code into an R window: testGUI <- function(){ require(tcltk) MainWindow <-

Retrieving data from a tcl /tk function
Hello, I am sorry if this is an answered question, but I did my homework for a long while and couldn't figure out a way to retrieve data entry from a model dialog. In one of the examples compiled by James Wettenhall: odalDialog <- function(title, question, entryInit, entryWidth = 20, returnValOnCancel = "ID_CANCEL") { dlg <- tktoplevel() tkwm.deiconify(dlg)

Dear all, I'm trying to use tcltk to build a small user-interface and couter the problem: It seems that sometimes the dialog box will be minimized automatically though I want it to be on top of the screen all the time. For example, when runing the following code, if you type in "a1", "a2", "a3", etc when being asked for an integer, the program is supposed to

Hi List, Can anyone tell me how could i put the "BACK" button in the following code, just under the "AAA" menu? I want this button to go back to the previous page, and since it has nothing to do with the "1" and "2" buttons, i want it somehow separated from these two buttons, but i don't know how. tcltk: Difficulties creating menus
I am struggling with adding menus to a tcltk application. The following example (from the O'Reilly book on Perl/Tk) works fine: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use Tk; my $mw = MainWindow->new; $menub = $mw->Menubutton(-text => "Color")->pack(); foreach (qw/red yellow green blue grey/) { $menub->radiobutton(-label => $_, -command => \&set_bg,

How to call stored procedure on iodbc
Hi all, I am getting a problem in calling Stored Procedure from C++ application on macintosh using OpenLink. Exact scenario is that my stored procedure takes 6 parameters out of which 1 parameter is out parameter and other 5 are input parameters. So it uses 5 IN parameters as values for inserting a row in database and returns its max id as out parameter. Code Snippet is given below :--

tkentry that exits after RETURN?
I can set up an entry widget (thanks to an old post by Barry Rowlingson) that gets a password and exits when the user clicks on the "OK" button. Anyone have any clever ideas for returning/ destroying the window when the user types a carriage return/ENTER in the text window? I've messed around a little with validate, validatecommand, but don't see any obvious way to do it ...

Problem with geometry manager in TclTK
Hello, everyone. I have the following problem with TclTk: I create some windows and want to change their position with geometry manage (sometimes they will be centered, sometimes not). If the toplevel is created and its dimensions are gathered via 'tkwinfo', I get (usually) correct values. However, if this window is created by a function (in the following example, by 'ask.format')

'tcltk' crashes related to event-loops (PR#14187)
--0016e6d464cff5d753047d482362 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 I am experiencing some regular crashes on Debian Linux, 32- and 64-bit, involving 'tcltk' and 'cairoDevice' or 'RGtk2'. They make it very difficult to use tcltk interfaces (Rcmdr) and GTK+ ones (rattle, playwith, etc.) in the same R session. NOTE: Before you continue, please read NOTE2 located towards

Internationalization questions
Dear R-devel list members: I have two internationalization questions, related to questions that I posed previously. These pertain to Windows (I've tried under Win XP but assume the issue is more general) and R 2.1.1 patched and 2.2.0 devel. (1) I've noticed that the standard Windows dialogs in R -- whether initiated from the Rgui menus, from winDialog(), or from tcltk functions such as

Dropdown boxes in tcltk and R
Hello, I'm very much a newbie in R and more so in tcltk so apologies if this question is stupid. Basically I am trying to use the combobox example found here: http://bioinf.wehi.edu.au/~wettenhall/RTclTkExamples/DropDown.html . What I want to do is in that example get fruitChoice as a variable in R in general. When I run that code, however, and the ask for fruitChoice it says

I have an R script that read those files, process them and plots the results. What I would like to do is: process the data as the files appear in the folder (I've done that do with a loop that checks

stuck tcltk scrollbars under Windows XP
Dear R-devel list members, I've encountered a problem with my Rcmdr package under Windows XP and could use some advice: The Rcmdr package uses the tcltk package to create menus and dialog boxes. My standard procedure when a dialog is created is to grab the focus -- e.g., by tkfocus(top) tkgrab(top) (Here, top is a top-level window -- say, containing one or more scrollbars.)

Using macros
Dear list members, I've been puzzling over how best to clean up the code for my Rcmdr package. In particular, there's a lot of repetitive tcltk code in the package, and as Martin M?chler has pointed out to me, this makes the package difficult to maintain. If R were Lisp, I'd use macros for much of the clean up. My efforts to do similar things with R functions has run into problems
