changes in behaviour of Rcmd SHLIB since 2.4.0
Dear all, I have some C code using the zlib uncompress. It compiles fine under Win XP (with SP2) with R up to 2.3.1 and generates four files (Makedeps, *.d, *.dll, and *.o): C:\Data\R-packages\cmg>rcmd SHLIB cmg.c -o cmg.dll latex: not found making cmg.d from cmg.c gcc -IC:/PROGRA~1/R/R-2.3.1/include -Wall -O2 -c cmg.c -o cmg.o cmg.c: In function `readcmg': cmg.c:33: warning:

Calling C Code from R
Hi R Users, Thanks in advance. I am using R-2.5.1 on Windows XP. I am trying to call C code (testCX1.C) from R. testCX1.c calls another C code (funcC1.c) and returning a value to testCX1.c. I like to have this value in R. My steps are below: 1. R CMD SHLIB testCX1.c funcC1.c (at command propmt) 2. It creates testCX1.dll with warning (but testCX1.dll works):

Everything was ok, but I failed to get .o file in g77
Hi folks, I tried to compile a FORTRAN routine using the command “g77 –o2 –c all.f”, it seems everything is fine, there is no error message at all, but finally I can not get the file all.o. Therefore, I can not move on to the next step using “g77 –shared –c all.dll all.o” to get the file all.dll. The following is what happened on my screen: > g77 –o2 –c all.f > Could anyone help me? Builind C code for R with cygwin [C1]
Hello, I would like to build shared lib for R using cygwin environment. After installing needed tools (mainly perl, make and compilers), I ran R CMD SHLIB hw.c But I get the following error : $ R CMD SHLIB hw.c c:/PROGRA~1/R/R-26~1.2/src/gnuwin32/MakeDll:82: *** multiple target patterns. Stop. Google it didn't give me any hints. Thanks for your help. Sylvain Archenault.

R CMD SHLIB flags
How can one specify multiple extra flags to R CMD SHLIB? The example in R-exts section 5.5 MAKEFLAGS="CFLAGS=-O3" R CMD SHLIB *.c works for a single flag, but when I try MAKEFLAGS="CFLAGS=-g -O2 -Wall" R CMD SHLIB *.c only the first flag is used and the rest seem to be ignored (version 2.3.1, Mac OS X) -thomas Thomas Lumley Assoc. R uses private function in libc (PR#9107)
Full_Name: Quanah Gibson-Mount Version: 2.3.0, 2.3.1 OS: Linux Submission from: (NULL) (171.66.155.86) libc used to export the symbol: __libc_stack_end; however, newer versions of libc no longer export it. R has some serious problems around this, because the code has: # ifdef linux extern void * __libc_stack_end; # endif and #if defined(linux) R_CStackStart = (uintptr_t)

Problem building a DLL from Fortran 90 source under Windows (with solution)
Hi, All, I have come across a problem building a DLL from .f90 source (R 2.3.1, Windows XP). When using the R CMD SHLIB procedure, the DLL itself was being built, but its export table was empty. Among the output from R CMD SHLIB the following message appeared: c:\mingw\bin\nm.exe: 'a.out': No such file The reason is the empty list of dependencies in the pattern rule for DLLs

Fwd: makeconf issue on R-devel 2006-03-12 r37524
I sent the message below to r-sig-mac yesterday, but having no reply I decided to explore a bit myself and found that editing: /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.3/Resources/share/make/ shlib.mk yzzy: diff shlib.mk shlib.mk~ 3c3 < include $(R_HOME)/etc/Makeconf --- > include $(R_HOME)/etc${R_ARCH}/Makeconf restored the functionality of R CMD INSTALL. Is this a known issue?

how to set environment variables?
The help file of the R bitmap function says that I have to set the environment variable R_GSCMD to the path of my Ghostscript installation. How do I set this variable (either by commandline or in R.app for Mac)? Sorry if this sounds like a very basic question, but I could not find the answer anywhere else. Many thanks Andreas -- -------------------------- Andreas Zankl, MD Division of

Cross-platform linking of a simple front-end
Dear all, I have a simple front-end program which uses the APIs described in section 8 of "Writing R Extensions" to deviate from the standard R behaviour in fairly minor ways. However, I'm having some difficulty getting it to link reliably across different platforms. R CMD LINK seemed like it would help, but I've had difficulty finding many real-world examples online. I've

zlib+shlib issue with the official EL4 R binary
Hi, I have got a curious issue with an R package which uses zlib, against the official binary here: http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/redhat/el4/i386/R-2.4.1-1.rh4AS.i386.rpm on a Redhat EL4 i686 system. The problem is that at the end of reading a gzip'ed file within my C code, gzgetc() returns -1 (no more to read or error) but gzeof() doesn't return true. Now one can probably jump to

R CMD Check fails under Windows XP
Hello, I have a problem with the checking and building of R packages that contain C or FORTRAN code. I have implemented R 2.3.1 (2006-06-01) and the corresponding toolset under Windows XP and Windows 2000. The MinGW compiler components are (exactly as recommended for R 2.3.1) gcc-core-3.4.5-20051220-1.tar.gz gcc-g++-3.4.5-20051220-1.tar.gz gcc-g77-3.4.5-20051220-1.tar.gz

tempdir() may be deleted during long-running R session
Temporary files not accessed for a long time are automatically removed in some Linux distributions and probably other operating systems too, depending on system configuration. This may affect the per-session temporary directory, the path of which is returned by tempdir(). I think it would be nice if R automatically tried to recreate a missing tempdir() but this could have some performance

Problems Building R-2.3.1 on Alpha server ES40 running Tru64 V5.1B PK#5
R Listers, One of the list contributors suggested I abandon attempts to build R-1.9.1 and focus on building R-2.3.1. I believe the main set of packages have been built properly (with some changes to the code) - however, when building the Recommended packages, the build fails. CODE CHANGES: ============= 1. My C compiler requires a ";" on line 589 of ..../src/main/printutils.c. Here

grid and gtkDevice package clipping bug.
Hello! When I draw points on grid's viewport with clip set to TRUE clipping does not have effect on some symbols. It happens only when drawing over gtkDevice (GTK ver. 1.2) (with postscript device clipping works OK - take a look at this screenshot http://www.hppi.troitsk.ru/Kondrin/clipbug.png) and only with symbols that are drawn with commands other than gdk_draw_polygon() (i.e. circles
