do.call vs. lapply for lists
Hi All, I'm trying to understand the difference between do.call and lapply for applying a function to a list. Below is one of the variations of programs (by Marc Schwartz) discussed here recently to select the first and last n observations per group. I've looked in several books, the R FAQ and searched the archives, but I can't find enough to figure out why lapply doesn't do what

untar() error
Dear List, I have a list of 600+ *.gz files that I would like to extract and read the geotiffs contained within them. The details are below, and any help in solving this matter is appreciated. > files = list.files(path = "J:/GIMMS/NDVI",

RData File Specification?
Hi, I am developing a tool for converting a large data frame stored in an uncompressed binary (XDR) RData file to a delimited text file. The data frame is too large to load() and extract rows from on a typical PC. I'm looking to parse through the file and extract individual entries without loading the whole thing into memory. In terms of some C source functions, instead of doing

[RFC] llvm-diva - Debug Information Visual Analyzer
llvm-diva - Debug Information Visual Analyzer Carlos Alberto Enciso, Sony Interactive Entertainment LLVM supports multiple debug information formats (namely DWARF and CodeView) in different binary formats (e.g. ELF, PDB, Mach-O). Understanding the mappings between source code and debug information can be complex, and it's a problem we've commonly encountered when triaging debug
