Hi
How Can I write this this matlab code in R: options=optimset('TolFun',1e-9,'TolX',1e-9,'MaxIter',1e8,'MaxFunEvals',1e8); c=c/2; [alpha, delta, epsilon, nofcup] = ustrs(set_date,mat_date); y = fminsearch('pbond',.15,options,p,c,nofcup,delta/epsilon); y = 200*y; Note pbond is a function in Matlab I already wrote in R ustrs is a function in Matlab I

Question about output from optim
Dear R-users, I am trying to port to R something that I wrote in Matlab to perform model parameter optimization using the Nelder-Mead simplex method (fminsearch). I read the help on ?optim (which seems to be the way to go) as well as a bunch of posts on the topic, but I would like to make sure about something before I spend to much time trying to reproduce something that is not possible. Counterpart for Matlab's 'feval'?
Hi! I've just begun writing a program that searches for the minimum of a function with golden section search. In order to do this in a nice way I need a function that takes a function name and an argument and returns the function value for that argument, i .e just like Matlab's 'feval'. Is there any? Thanks before hand! Best regards, Fredrik Thuring, Codan Insurance A/S

questions about read datafile into R
Dear all: I have been thinking to import below one data file (.txt)into R by read.table(..,skip=1, header=T). But How can I deal with the repeated rows of TABLE NO.1 and names of data variables in the middle of this data file. The similar block will be repeated 100 times, here only show 4 of them and within each block, data records also can vary, here only paste 4 rows for example. I appreciate

speeding read.table
R 2.15.1 OS X Colleagues, I am reading a 1 GB file into R using read.table. The file consists of 100 tables, each of which is headed by two lines of characters. The first of these lines is: TABLE NO. 1 The second is a list of column headers. For example: TABLE NO. 1 COL1 COL2 COL3 COL4 COL5 COL6 COL7 COL8 COL9 COL10

Improved Nelder-Mead algorithm - a potential replacement for optim's Nelder-Mead
Hi, I have written an R translation of C.T. Kelley's Matlab version of the Nelder-Mead algorithm. This algorithm is discussed in detail in his book "Iterative methods for optimization" (SIAM 1999, Chapter 8). I have tested this relatively extensively on a number of smooth and non-smooth problems. It performs well, in general, and it almost always outperforms optim's

breaks in hist()
I was using the hist() function to create a frequency table of some network traffic data. The range in values is rather large, from 0 till just under 10e12. Calling hist(x, breaks=c(0,1000,1e6,1e9,1e12),plot=F,freq=T) causes hist() to return : $breaks [1] -1.0000e+05 1.0100e+05 1.1000e+06 1.0001e+09 1.0000e+12 Is this recalculation of the breaks by hist() intended? probit with sample selection error?
Deal all: i want to do the probit with sample selection estimation, the following is my code: probit with sample selection can be done by stata :heckprob The heckprobll is the likelihood function shown in W.H. Greene 5th p714 ¡´ The question is the convergence is very slow compare with Stata using likellihood only. ¡´ Second i did the similar way in matlab using fminsearch , the estimated

Release of optimbase, optimsimplex and neldermead packages
Dear R users, I am pleased to announce the release of three new R packages: optimbase, optimsimplex, and neldermead. - optimbase provides a set of commands to manage an abstract optimization method. The goal is to provide a building block for a large class of specialized optimization methods. This package manages: the number of variables, the minimum and maximum bounds, the number of non linear

help for color parameter
Dear all: I attached the dataset with this email and post codes as below. My questions is related to the 'col=temp.col' for the line and pch in my code, I have 4 IDs, 10 DIDs and each ID include different DIDs, for example, first ID has 3 DIDs, then the color is the first three colors(black, red, green) in the first plot, but in the second plot, why the color change to pink which is

looking for equivalent of matlab's medfilt1 function
Dear all, I have several files with Matlab code, which I am translating to R. For the zero-level approach, I took the very old shell script from R-help archives, which has made some obvious leg-work such as replacement of "=" with "<-". Now I am translating indexing, matrix operations and function call using this table http://37mm.no/mpy/octave-r.html The problem is, I

R equivalent to MATLAB's "whos" Command?
By any chance is there an R equivalent to MATLAB's "whos" command?   I tried searching R and R-seek, but didn't really come up with anything.    There are several items I would like to make sure are stored in the workspace and check their values.   Thank you again for your help and any feedback.     > ?workspace No documentation for 'workspace' in specified

Matlab's lsqnonlin
Hi! I'm translating some code from Matlab to R and I found a problem. I need to translate Matlab's function 'lsqnonlin' (http://www-ccs.ucsd.edu/matlab/toolbox/optim/lsqnonlin.html) into R, and at the beginning I thought it would be the same as R's 'optim'. But then I looked at the definition of 'lsqnonlin' and I don't quite see how to make

Equivalent to Matlab's "Ans"
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if there is an equivalent in R to the shortcut "Ans" in MatLab whereby I can use the previous result for the current command? This could save a lot of time when hacking in R itself, not from an editor. Thanks, Stephane [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
