removing ROWS with missing values
I am trying to find out if R can recognize specific criteria for removing rows (i.e. a prexisting function) I have a matrix myMatrix that is 12000 by 20 I would like to remove rows from myMatrix that have: -999 across all columns -999 across all columns but one -999 across all columns but two -999 across all columns but three -999 across all columns but four -999 across all columns but five

Sorting a matrix on two columns
Hello, If a matrix with 5 columns has been defined and the first two columns need to be sorted in ascending order, how can this be achieved whilst ensuring the other 3 columns data are in relative position to the sorted columns? Glen Jones [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Adding a numeric to all values in the dataframe
Hi there I just want to add 2 to all the values in dataframe. I tried using sapply but it seem to die all the time. Any help would be appreciated. creating matrices from vectors
If I have 4 vectors (a, b, c, and d) each of length 1000, how do I then create 1000 two by two matrices from these vectors, such that: myMatrix[i] = matrix(c(a[i],b[i],c[i],d[i]),2) Then I'd like to create a single vector containing the largest eigenvalues of each matrix? (Sorry I am quite new to R) Many thanks, James _________________________________________________________________

select n rows
Hello everyone, I have a matrix with 8000 rows. If I want to select every 8 rows, (i.e. row1, row2, ..., row8), what should I do? Appriciate for any hints! Thanks a lot! how to replace NA values in a list
I have a matrix named "spec" (see below), it is a 6x3 matrix, and each element of spec is a list. For example, spec[1,"wavenumber"] is a list, and it contains 1876 numeric numbers and NAs. I want to replace the NAs to zero, but don't know how to change it, the difficulty may be all the elements are of the class list, so it is hard to change. Thank you for your help!

Analog to matlab repmat function
Hello, I'm trying to switch from Matlab to R-project, and having some difficulties. I make a use of multidimensional matrices. For example, I need to extract mean from one of the dimensions: % we have matrix data of size: 130 x 11 x 350 x 2 data = data - repmat(mean(data,3),[130 1 1 1]); In R project I managed to do that in a very pervarsive way: # mean(data,3) in R base <-

complexity of operations in R
Hello! I am optimizing my code in R and for this I need to know a bit more about the internals. It would help tremendously if someone could link me to a page with O()-complexities of all the operations. In this particular case, I need something like a linked list with O(1) insertLast/First ability. I can't preallocate a vector since I do not know the final size of the list ahead of time. The

Window on a vector
Dear all, I have a large vector (lets call it myVector) and I want to plot its value with the logic below yaxis<-myVector[1] yaxis<-c(xaxis,mean(myvector[2:3]) yaxis<-c(xaxis,mean(myvector[4:8]) yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[9:16]) yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[17:32]) this has to stop when the new ..... yaxis<c(xaxis,mean(myvector[1024:2048]) will not find the correspondent number

Assign references
Folks, I've run into trouble while writing functions that I hope will create and modify a dataframe or two. To that end I've written a toy function that simply sets a couple of variables (well, tries but fails). Searching the archives, Thomas Lumley recently explained the <<- operator, showing that it was necessary for x and y to exist prior to the function call, but I haven't

Regression problem
Hello all, I am new to r programmeand need help. I want to do multiple linear regression analysis. say, I have two matrix 'x' and 'y'. I want, 'x' as my response variable and 'y' as predictor. Each time one column of 'x' will be the response, say x[,1], then next x[,2] and so on. And also I need to store the coefficients in a matrix form.
