Removing Rows
I have a data frame with the following dimensions 217 x 5 I want to create two data frames from the original. 1) One containing every tenth row of the original data frame 2) Other containing the rest of the rows. How do I do this? I've tried subset() and calling the index. thank you in advance, [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

removing ROWS with missing values
I am trying to find out if R can recognize specific criteria for removing rows (i.e. a prexisting function) I have a matrix myMatrix that is 12000 by 20 I would like to remove rows from myMatrix that have: -999 across all columns -999 across all columns but one -999 across all columns but two -999 across all columns but three -999 across all columns but four -999 across all columns but five

variance explained by each term in a GAM
Hello fellow R's, I do apologize if this is a basic question. I'm doing some GAMs using the mgcv package, and I am wondering what is the most appropriate way to determine how much of the variability in the dependent variable is explained by each term in the model. The information provided by summary.gam() relates to the significance of each term (F, p-value) and to the

generating RANDOM ROWS from matrix
Dear group, I would like to generate a 1000 random rows from a MATRIX with dimensions 12,000 by 20 (i.e. to generate a 1000 by 20 matrix of random rows) Does the function sample() work for this??? thank you in advance [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

I am getting an error message, which I do not know the source to. I have a matrix SAMPLES that has preexisting rownames that I would like to change. Opera browser on CentOS
Is anyone running the Opera browser on Centos 7 or 6? While not available in a yum-repository, it seems to be available as a snap-package. Not familiar with those yet but curious if the browser is worthwhile to run. I have generally found Firefox less useful/compatible than Chromium but would also like alternatives, particularly since Opera defaults to a VPN-connection.

Classifying values in vector
I have a vector of size 217 called "A". the values of A are not sorted and range from 0 to 1 (normalized) I am having difficulty writing a program to create a new vector "B" where if A's value is 0< A <=0.333 then B is 0 if A's value is 0.333< A <=0.666 then B is 1 if A's value is 0.666< A <=1 then B is 2 so if A is 0.22 0.999 0.444 0 B would

Repeat dataframe
Hi R list: How can I "repeat" a data frame n times (with n>1000), and obtain a new data frame where all the n data frames are binded by rows? Thank you for your help Kenneth -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

Selecting out certain values from a MATRIX
I have two objects, one matrix and one vector. I want to use my vector to subset certain values out of my matrix. For example: I want to tell R, to select out all rows in myMatrix into a new myMatrix2 IF that corresponding row is less than a 0.5 in myVector. So: myMatrix = a matrix of 8000 by 20 myVector = vector of 8000 myMatrix2 = a matrix of < 8000 by 20 (based on selection criteria in

Correlation when one variable has zero variance (polychoric?)
Hi, I'm running this for a simulation study, so many combinations of parameter produce many predictions that I need to correlate with data. The problem ---------------- I'm using rating data with 3 to 5 categories (e.g., too low, correct, too high). The underlying continuous scales should be normal, so I chose the polychoric correlation. I'm using library(polychor) in its

Theora in SVG+JavaScript?
Hi, I was just reading on Adobe Flash<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash>and the components which make it up: SWF, ActionScript, and FLV. >From what I've read, SVG is competing with SWF as the format of vector graphics in web design, while ActionScript is an ECMAScript like JavaScript. Hence, SVG + Javascript can provide an interactive, animated, open, non-proprietary web

higher ascii characaters in smbusers, success!
Hi list, Update: originally i wanted to post a question, but in writing i thought of things that finally led me to the solution. This i wanted to share with the community in case it can help. Opera proposed Theora for native video playback in browsers
Hi , I see this news in Opera website : http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/2007/03/05/1 I think this is a good news for Theora Team and also a greater news if video tag becomes true. This extract of the website is incredible : 'One thing to keep in mind that adding native support for Theora in Opera would only add about 300K to Opera's overall size! And I am sure that could even be

variance explained by each term in a GAM
Picking up an ancient thread (from Oct 2007), I have a somewhat more complex problem than given in Simon Wood's example below. My full model has more than two smooths as well as factor variables as in this simplified example: b <- gam(y~fv1+s(x1)+s(x2)+s(x3)) Judging from Simon's example, my guess is to fit reduced models to get components of deviance as follows: b1 <-

variance estimates in lme biased?
Hi all, I didn't get a response to my post of this issue a week ago, so I've tried to clarify: When I use lme to analyze a model of nested random effects, the variance estimates of levels higher in the hierarchy appear to have much more variance than they should. In the example below with 4 levels, I simulate variance in level 2 (sd=1.0) and level 4 (sd=0.1), but levels 1 and 3 do

ldap quota limitation problem
hello, We have configured the quota enforcement folowing the link (http://wiki.dovecot.org/Quota) but we note that the global quota limitation configuration in dovecot.conf works well but not the ldap users configuration limit. For example in the casee below, we have tried to limit quota usage for some users to 1Gb but only the global quota limitation appear in the user quota. please find below
