Is this because the device works by making calls (GPL calls of course!) to a proprietary Windows library? In that case I can understand that it would be far from kosher to implement it on Linux. I know within windows you can do a right click and then 'save image as metafile' but I use Mac OS X...I know as well that mac users have a right click as well, but it does not work.
