Rotating the x-axis labels of a barplot
Dear listserv,
Here is my latest formatting problem. I would like to rotate the x-axis labels
by 45 degrees on a _barplot_. Apparently this is slightly different from the
example given in the R FAQ, which is for rotating the x-axis labels on a
scatterplot
(http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#How-can-I-create-rotated-axis-labels_003f).
I have adapted that code, as best I could, and

Aligning Diagonally Oriented Labels Under Bar Chart
I searched the forms (i.e., R Search)?and come up with the following suggested link:
I tried to implement what I believe was being implied by that URL and came up with the below:

using reshape to do ANOVA mixed models
Hi,
I just started with R and I found that there are many options to rearrange
the data to do mixed models.
I want to use the reshape function. I have 2 between subject variables and
one within.
I was able to change the data structure but still - the result of the aov
functions are calculating everything as a within subject.
the table looks like this:

How to rotate axis labels? 2009
Hi,
while searching for a solution i found many solutions in the internet.
But the postings seemed to be many years old and the workaround was a
dirty hack like this:
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/FAQ/R-FAQ.html#How-can-I-create-rotated-axis-labels_003f
Now its the year 2009 and there might have been some improvement...
Does anyone know a nice and easy way to turn labels on the y axis in the

mtext and srt
Hello:
I am trying to get some text at an angle in the margins of a plot. I was
accustomed under older versions of Splus to using srt in the mtext command,
but that seems not to work under R,

x-axis label print in 45 degree
Hi how can print x-axis labels in 45 degree in boxplot() (or plot in general)? I
can use las=2 to print in 90 degree, but it looks ugly. Is there a simple option
to do 45 degree easily?
Thanks

Rotated mtext
I seem to remember this coming up before, but I can't find it any messages I've
saved or in the archives (searching by subject). I want to rotate mtext so that
it's perpendicular to the right side. I tried srt=90 and lots of other values,
but it seems to be ignored. Is there a way to do this?

extension to nlme self start SSmicmen?
Dear list,
Has anyone created a version of SSmicmen that allows testing for group
differences? The basic Michaelis-Menten equation is:
(Bmax * X) / (Kd + X).
The nlme package allows modeling of random effects for Bmax and Kd as
needed, but I curious how I can build in group differences? I have
receptor binding data for strains of mice, and following Pinheiro and
Bates' lead in their

Changing mtext direction, or using text for the margin?
Hi all,
I have read through the archives, but can't find a solution to this problem.
I need the text direction on "dependent B", plotted in margin 4, to go
top to bottom (opposite what it is now). Here's some sample code:
#plot with mtext example
par(mgp = c(2,1,0), mfrow=c(2,2), las=1, mar=c(2,2,2,2), omi=
c(0.5,0.2,0,0.2))

axis ignores srt/crt (PR#249)
Rotated text for axis labels should be possible with one of
par(srt=90)
axis(1,at,labels)
par(srt=0)
or
axis(1,at,labels,srt=90)
(or similar with crt instead of srt)
None of these works in pre0.65 or in 0.64.2

question about "srt" argument in text() plotting function
Just wondering: it appears that "srt" does not accept a vector of
values, just a single value. I ended up using tapply() as the
following code snippet shows, so it's not a major problem. I was justa
little surprised that this argument (srt) differs from things like
"labels," "lty," "col," and so on, all of which accept (and recycle

equivalent of Splus command axis(..., srt=45, adj=1) in R
Dear R-users
moving from Splus to R (under Windows), I notice that command "srt" within a
plot in the original Splus code is ignored by R.
For example, if a plot something and then include the line of code
axis(1, at=Time, labels=Text, srt=45, adj=1)
the srt=45 command within the axis() command fails to draw Text at 45
degrees on the x-axis in R but it works properly in Splus.

How to plot the xaxis label at 45 degree angle?
Hello there,
I would like to plot a graph with the x axis's label displayed at a 45
angle to the x axis instead of horizontal to it as the label is very
long. What should I do?
Thank you for your help in advance

rotating points on a plot
Anybody know how to rotate shapes generated with the 'points'
function? I'm trying to place points around a radial diagram such
that the y-axis of individual shapes are oriented with the radii of
the circle rather than the y-axis of the larger plot area. Perhaps
something analogous to the 'srt' and 'crt' functions for text that
appear under 'par'?

R freezes with text(...., srt = -1e-8) (PR#9347)
Full_Name: Emmanuel Paradis
Version: 2.4.0
OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (193.49.41.124)
Adding text to a plot makes R freeze if 'srt' is given a very small negative
value, eg:
plot(1, type = "n")
text(1, 1, "some text....", srt = -1e-8)
But if 'srt = -1e-6' (or smaller) or 'srt = -1e-19' (or greater), this works.
This seems to be OS-dependent:

ploting axes and rotating strings
Hello!
I have two question that rose from trying to tacle the same problem in two
differnet ways.
What I want to do is to plot axes (only values or labels, no tick marks) in
such a way that 'cex' can be very small, text can be perpendicular to the
axis (as in axis(las=2) ) and the text is stil at the right position.
Let me demonstrate with a small example:

to combine bwplot + srt option?
Hi R-users,
Could someone help me to combine bwplot and srt option (exemple srt = 45
degree or srt 90 degree)? My graphic contains 146 boxplots, I would like
to label all of them. As you know, labels are not readable.
Thank you for your help in advance!
