transition matrices
I am working with transition matrices of sequences of animal behaviours. What I would like to do is parse the original matrices, adjusting row/column order so that the matrix has its main values in blocks surrounding the diagonal. This would cause behaviours involved in functional groupings (e.g. grooming, resting, foraging etc) to appear as blocks. This can be done manually by applying

point pattern interactions (Gcross and Kcross)
Dear R-users, I am exploring disease spread in trees. I have locations for diseased trees in 2004 and 2005 and want to know whether the patterns are independent. I would like to use both the 'gcross' and 'kcross' functions (in spatstat). I imported the data from two text files and created point objects using as.ppp. I then created a marked planar point pattern using ppp. I am

install_printer_drivers.pl and 2.2.4 issues
Hello - I've been working on getting ready to cut our 60+ Samba servers over from the old style printers.def approach to the new printer drivers databases. However, I'm have a hard time uploading the packages onto the server using the install_printer_drivers.pl script from Imprints 0.0.9b. To make sure I wasn't packaging them wrong I used the imprints.sourceforge.org server to get

Issues/thoughts re CentOS-4
This is a list of issues for discussion for CentOS-4. Most of it is based on my experience from building/maintaining CentOS-2 and observing CentOS-3. I have not seen the CentOS-4 beta yet so I don't know if any of this is already done. If these have been discussed on IRC then perhaps someone could produce a shot summary of the outcomes....? * Just call it CentOS-4 not 4.1 etc. Too

any good way to convert sp class objects to splancs object
Greetings: are there any simple ways to convert an sp class object to a splancs ppp class object, outside of reading the coordinates and computing a bounding box? cheers, -- Dylan Beaudette Soils and Biogeochemistry Graduate Group University of California at Davis 530.754.7341

Clustering nested data
Hi all, I am interested in performing a cluster analysis on ecological data from forests in Pennsylvania. I would like to develop definitions for forest types (red maple forests, upland oak forests, etc.(AH AR in attached table)) based on measured attributes in each forest type. To do this, I would like to 'draw clusters' around forest types based on information from various tree

Misalignment of secondary axis on boxplot
Dear R-help, I am trying to overlay a secondary y-axis over a boxplot. The problem is that the point of the line does not correspond to the centrepoint of the boxplot, which makes presentation and interpretation sloppy. Could someone point out where I am going wrong please? #DATA

Subsetting does not remove unwanted data in table
Dear all, This relatively routine analysis has left me frustrated and in a rut. I have a dataset (data1), which I subset in order to remove rows where HabitatDensity="Med". This dataset looks correct when I call it up, however, when I create a table out of the new subset (data2), my table continues to show the "Med" information as 0. This is a problem because I need a

autologistic modelling in R
Hi, I have spatially autocorrelated data (with a binary response variable and continuous predictor variables). I believe I need to do an autologistic model, does anyone know a method for doing this in R? Many thanks C Bell

Matrix: Problem with the code
Hi, Can any one please explain why the following code doesn't work? Or can anyone suggest an alternative. Suppose       x<-c(23,67,2,87,9,63,8,2,35,6,91,41,22,3)        mat<-0;        for(j in 1:length(x))        {              for(i in 1:p)                      mat[i,j]<-x[j]^i;        }    Actually I want to have a matrix with p columns such that each column will have the

Using optim function for logistic model simulation
Hello! I'm a college undergrad desperately trying to finish up my thesis. I have a dataset on the distribution of a grassland bird from the Breeding Bird Survey. I have a very straightforward and simple version of the logistic growth model to describe changes in this bird's abundance over time. The variables are the natural birth rate, mortality, and carrying capacity. The equation itself

Degrees of freedom in repeated measures glmmPQL
Hello, I've just carried out my first good-looking model using glmmPQL, and the output makes perfect sense in terms of how it fits with our hypothesis and the graphical representation of the data. However, please could you clarify whether my degrees of freedom are appropriate? I had 106 subjects, each of them was observed about 9 times, creating 882 data points. The subjects were in 3

[TableGen] What to do if there are overlapping instruction patterns?
I've been working on adding support for a (semi-proprietary) extension for PowerPC called "Paired-Singles". It's a SIMD instruction set supporting various operations on a vector of 2 32-bit floating point numbers. The Extension is found in the PowerPC 750CL, modified variants of it are used in the Nintendo GameCube (Gekko), the Nintendo Wii (Broadway) and the Nintendo Wii U
