copying previously installed libraries to R 2.3.0
hi all,
is there a new mechanism in R 2.3.0 for copying libraries from, say, R 2.2.1 to R 2.3.0? i ask because gabor grothendieck comments in his copydir.bat (from gabor's batchfiles at: http://cran.r-project.org/contrib/extra/batchfiles/batchfiles_0.2-5.zip ):
``:: I personally upgraded my 2.1.0 to 2.2.0 this way so it seems ok until

rsync and hfs+ compressed files damaged
Hi All,
I have been using rysnc 3.0.6 with Mike's rsync_3.0.6-hfs-compression_20091027.diff patch (as well as the standard osx patches) with good results. I discovered that clones done on 10.6 using this rsync cause some executable files ( the ones that are mostly compressed this way on osx ) to be damaged.
I did a test twice and indeed a handful of them are damaged. They all appear to be in

rgl install problem on Solaris 10 X86
Hi,
Could you help me to install the rgl package on Solaris 10 x86?
I tried and got the following error messages.
When I compiled my R as 64bit, I used the SUN ProW compilers.
However, gcc seems to being used below as well as missing some information.
Thank you in advance,

problem with png
I cannot generate png files running R2.2.1 on a SunOS 5.9 machine. See
below. I did a search on this problem and people who have virtually the
same error have solved the problem by installing or updating libpng .
We downloaded libpng from Sun but still the problem remains. Does a path
within R need to be set to this file or does the problem indicate that
libpng was not installed properly? I

Problem installing from source: no CONTENTS files
I've just had the error below while trying to install a package from
source under R2.2.1 and Windows XP. I recall encountering this
sporadically in the past. It is a pretty confusing message and took me
quite some time to figure out; I've seen queries about it on the R site
search, but couldn't find a reply. There's an attempted diagnosis and
suggested cure below.

stupid basic concept problem
Hy there
I just saw some rails videos.
*NICE!!!*
So I got this basic principle question: Now I created my jawdropping
application.
But it''s just running localy. Can I kind of export my project to
php&sql. so I can import the database and upload the php to my server to
running it "outside"?
Or do I have a provider that runs ruby?
I dont get this very basic problem. All I

Dynamic load
Hi,
I am trying to load a FORTRAN program which I have downloaded from netlib.
Counting the number of dependencies, there are about 10 programs which have
to be loaded. This is under SunOS 5.9 and R 2.2.1. I have compiled the
files with R221 CMD SHLIB *.f.
If I load these object files one by one with dyn.load() I get an error like
_j4save:reference symbol not found.
I have used S-Plus in the

"transparent" background for PDF
Colleagues
Running R2.2.1 on either a Linux (RedHat 9) or Mac (10.4) platform.
I created a PDF document using pdf("FILENAME.pdf", bg="transparent",
version="1.4"). I then imported the graphic into PowerPoint -
background was set to a non-transparent color. I was hoping that the
inserted graphic would be transparent - instead, it had a white
background.

Rsync synchronizes unchanged files
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I wish to use rsync to synchronize a whole fat32 (MSWindows) partition
mounted into a linux system. I run rsync from linux.
The problem is rsync synchronizes most of the data even if the data hasn't
changed since the original image was made.
I used the -avz parameters to do the backup and the same for restoration.
Also I've tried just -rvz. It

multiple GLMs with lmList in lme4
I'd like to fit a GLM to each of a number of subsets of some data. The `family' argument to `lmList' (in lme4) has given me cause for optimism, but so far I've only been able to achieve linear model fits. For example
> df <- data.frame(gp = gp.temp <- factor(rep(1:3, each = 100)),
x = x.temp <- rnorm(300),
y = rpois(300, exp((-1:1)[gp.temp] + x.temp)))
Then a call to

More words for Allison
Here's the latest batch of words to get shipped out to Allison Smith.
Please submit reasonably small changes to me by tomorrow 10:00 AM
