Patch lovin'' for #2018? ("rake appdoc fails on Windows systems")
Gurus (Guri? heh), We got burned today by #2018 ("rake appdoc fails on Windows systems"), and did a bunch of ferreting around (starting at the problems in rdoc, rake, rdoc.bat) and ultimately came back to the conclusion that the cleanest way to fix the problem is just a variation on a suggestion already posted in that ticket. I wrote up a patch against trunk from the suggestion there and

Where to point the browser to for appdoc documentation
Under windows XP I created a batch file in the depot directory this takes care of generating the application documentation. The default rake appdoc isn''t working under windows right now (remove the -T option). So, where do I point my browser to (so that I can view the new generated application documentation)? Running gem_server didn''t help so far... listing doc.bat rdoc -o

wrong id for activerecord object when using :joins in mysql
I''m using a find with a :joins clause, like this: :joins => "JOIN table_b ON table_b.id=table_b_id" The records returned are used in a scaffold generated list page. The edit, show, and destroy links are getting the wrong id. They are getting the id of the table b record. When I run the query using mysql, I see that the query returns *2* id columns, the id of the main

is there really a restart task in switchtower? How do you invoke it?
I just created a new rails project "test". I then did "switchtower --apply-to ~/user/test test" I then moved into test and tried "rake restart" and got: kfelkins@lurch:~/user/test$ rake restart (in /home/kfelkins/user/test) rake aborted! Don''t know how to build task ''restart'' I see restart in deploy. Can restart be invoked from the

rake error
I installed at least one gem since I thought I actually once was able to run ''rake appdoc'' command since there is an api for my models and the ez_where plugin that I installed earlier. I wanted to see the api for pdf-writer which is the gem that I installed most recently. (no, I haven''t given up the issue of ''looping'' that Kevin and some others replied

inexpensive ways to make a rails application highly available? mysql replication?
I''m interested in making a low volume rails application very available. This means that I would like to have an alternate server for those times when the primary server is unavailable for whatever reason. Virtual private servers are fairly inexpensive so one could have a rails application on 2 different vps systems (not on the same server, possibly not even in the same city).

raking my brain to fix this
I am ''raking'' my brain to fix this problem - I have searched, googled, looked through rake documentation, wiki.rubyonrails and I can''t fix... This works $ rake plugindoc (in /home/craig/ruby-db/th-db) rdoc -o doc/plugins/ez_where --title ''Ez Where Plugin Documentation'' -- line-numbers --inline-source -T html

revised rake doc:app executes twice
I''m trying to create a new rake task that will generate slightly customized RDoc documentation for my Rails app. So I''ve created a new task (shown below) in lib/tasks/doc.rake. It generates documentation OK, but it executes the task twice every time I ''rake doc:custom''. namespace :doc do desc "Generate customized documentation for this application"

form fields WITHOUT table columns? Can we validate these in the model?
I would like to have a field on a form that does *not* have an underlying column in the table. Yet I would like to perform some validation on the value. I would like the results of the validation to show up just like the validations that are performed in the model. This is very similar to the password_confirmation field on a sign up screen. The password_confirmation is there on the screen, but

Can''t see documentation after executing "rake appdoc"
I successfully got rake appdoc to work on the depot application (after manually applying the patch for rake 0.70). Everything appears to generate fine, but I can''t pull up the documentation in my browser. I''ve tried: http://localhost:3000/doc/app/ http://localhost:3000/doc/app/index.html I always get: Recognition failed for "/doc/app/" with

rake appdoc Question regarding comment formatting
I tried googling and searching the forums here but was unable to locate an answer, please forgive if this has been covered. Is there any way to provide formatting guidelines to dictate how parsed comments are displayed in the resulting html? In the simplest example, is there a way to specify a linebreak (break tag)? Thanks, Andy -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Easy way of dealing with nil properties in templates?
Is there an easy way to deal with nil properties in templates? All I''m aware of are these methods, and it''s quite tedious and surely violates DRY. <%= @member.name unless @member.name.nil? %> <%= @member.name.to_is %> <%= "#{@member.name}" %> csn __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? help me understand association attributes
I have a model with a belongs_to association. The first model is called Thing and the associated model is User. I''m attempting to assign the user to the thing. To accomplish this I used a before_save method, like this: class Thing < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :created_by, :class_name => "User", :foreign_key => "created_by_user_id" def before_create

sudo in switchtower and security
I''m attempting to deploy a rails application using switchtower. My IT guys are refusing to give me sudo for a user changeable script. I really can''t argue with their logic. If I have sudo for a script that I can update, well, I can do most anything I want. They are suggesting I create a cgi that performs the same function. Since the cgi would run as www-data (this is a debian

is shared hosting evil?
I moved a rails application to textdrive using their low-cost shared plan. Once on textdrive my app would display ''proxy errors'' periodically. Hitting reload seemed to be all that was needed to get past the proxy error. After discussions with their support people I decided the proxy errors were being caused by apache server restarts -- because there were many of us sharing one

OT: Problem rotating logs with lighttpd
Hi everybody, this is a little OT. We are using Lighttpd as a webserver for Rails. Our problem is that when we rotate the logs everyday at the end of the process, lighttpd stops writing the logs. To solve this we have to restart the server manually each time. We use a common Debian, lighttpd-1.4.7, Rails 1.0 and fcgi-2.4.0. I have tracked the lighttpd bugs, and I haven''t found
